The JW Marriot was perfect for the first leg of our stay in Chicago. Located in the middle of most of the attractions we came to see. "Luxurious option for center of Chicago"
The JW Marriott was a very beautiful hotel. Exceptionally clean, the staff was professional and always helpful, and any request we had was addressed immediately. We had an issue with the drain in the tub not working properly, and while we were out that day, it was fixed for our return that night. We were very pleased. Housekeeping did a very excellent […] job of cleaning while we were out as well. You don't always get that. The honor bar did malfunction on us, and we were charge for many many items we did not consume, however the front desk was very happy to remove those items from our bill upon checkout. Anything you need, just ask, and they seem incredibly accommodating. Room service was exorbitantly expensive, but we knew that when we ordered. For your best bet, actually go to the on-site restaurant, Florentine, which is amazing. Same quality food… Even better… About half the price as room service. The only subtle negative I might comment on is the size of the room. We do not stay in city centers all that often, so perhaps we are just not aware that "tiny" is part of luxury for this price. It was extraordinarily comfortable, even though it was small. The bathroom was absolutely amazing. Great deep tub. If you are short, however, be aware that the bathroom is set up for tall people... Beautiful hotel except for the fact that when we arrived at 1AM we were told that the double beds that were guaranteed for us upon arrival were not a available, with every room in the hotel occupied. "Watch out their charge"
We reserved a room with this hotel through Hotels.com, choosing an option of combining a room plus overnight parking in the city. We double checked the prepaid parking when we checked in and also checked out. Two days after we left, the hotel charged overnight parking into my credit card. When I called the hotel to correct the charge, I was directed […] to so many different offices and voice messages. They corrected the charge eventually, but it took a lot of effort, time and patience to correct the charge. When I asked for a voucher or something for the time I wasted on this, I was told that if I reserve a room in their hotel, I will be getting free drinks or an upgrade -- for the frustration I went through. When I made the reservation, there were a couple different prices. I opted for the highest priced room because the reservationist told me it included parking and it included full breakfast. My friends and I stayed at the hotel for the Amnesty International 2014 conference this past weekend. The conference was amazing and the event. The hotel and its staff were all amazing. The beauty and comfort of the hotel, along with the outstanding service and delicious food, made this event the experience of a lifetime. My friends and I needed a […] mini vacation and the hotel helped us feel like we had one. Many employees were very, very helpful. Kelly, one of the staff, helped me during the day with a problem. He went out of his way to be sure my problem was resolved. Later, Kelly heard me coughing at the end of a very long day. Kelly was with several employees who were finishing up preparing the conference rooms for the next day. I was waiting in a hall for someone who was talking with one of the presenters. As s side note, I have been sick and on antibiotics, but I the conference was too important for me to miss. It was late and there were no refreshments available. I paid the extra fee to get the "deluxe city view" room and was very disappointed in our "city view." I am not familiar with downtown Chicago, so silly me went on the title of the room thinking it would have a great city view. "Always looking for another little pinch."
Travelers are accustom to getting pinched an excessive amount for small things here and there. This Hotel has taken a page from the Airline industry, only they still charge a premium for the room before picking your pocket at every opportunity. It's like paying for a business class seat on a plain, then getting pinched $10 extra for pretzels. It's a […] nice hotel. Not any better than Palmer House or any of the others that go for 40% to 60% less per night, but it's a nice hotel. You would think they could give you a free cup of coffee or maybe some internet access at $240/night, and you would be wrong. A small coffee will run you $3 in the lobby on your way out in the morning. And that internet access will run you $15/night. The hand full of M&Ms in a little jar in your hotel room will be $12. I avoided buying anything in the Hotel because the recurring pinch was just insulting. If they were %40 cheaper than other hotels, I would expect no frills. But at a premium, I expect more. "Excellent Staff & Services.. Wouldn't Expect Less"
My friend and I decided to opt for the JW for its traditional look and feel versus the W across the street. Now I can't say for the W, but JW went above and beyond to cater to our needs. Other than the freak accident that happened during one of our breakfast in bed -- The glass container literally split in half and dumped most of the yogurt onto my […] lap. Not their fault entirely, but they took care of my laundry, our breakfast cost, and of course, a new yogurt. Only thing that we didn't expect (and wasn't advertised) was the $20 surcharge for the use for the infrared/steam sauna for 24 hrs. It's a small price to pay for a classy place like the JW, but it would've been nice to either include the stay, or $20 for the duration of your stay, since the 24 hr pass is REALLY 12 hr pass since the spa was open from 8a-8p. Overall, we were really satisfied! Oh, and it's 1 block away from the Orange/Midway L Train if you were coming in or out of MDW, and 3 blocks away from the Willis Tower/Skydeck. "Some strange features here"
I traveled with my wife to Chicago and stayed one night at the JW Marriott in Chicago. The staff and common areas were nice. The room we received was a little strange. Because of the layout of the hotel, many rooms will not have a view. What is bizarre is that instead of being able to open a window for air, or look out onto the dull view of a roof or […] the other side of the hotel, the entire window is frosted so you cannot see outside at all. The second strange item is that there was a telephone handset installed adjacent to the toilet. The third is that the toilet paper holder was installed such that it interfered with sitting straight on the toilet. The fourth is that the mouthwash appeared to have been opened and possible refilled.
