"Great views and nice rooms"
We got a very good deal online ($25/night) and for that price this hotel was outstanding. It is a resort, with all rooms having a view of the water and their own private porch. We were in the hotel (as opposed to the bungalows) and the room was clean and well appointed. There is wifi throughout the building, and a nice spa with sauna and cool pool. […] Weather was too chilly for swimming but the outdoor pool and ocean beach are both very nice, though the beach furniture was a bit in dis-repair (possibly because it was the end of the tourist season). Tips: You can walk to town in about 25 minutes and it's not a bad walk though there is no sidewalk for much of the way. Otherwise you pay $5-7Euro to get to town. In town there are cute restaurants and some grocery stores. If you want to see the island or plan to go to town often and don't want to walk, consider renting a car or scooter. We took the ferry over from Turkey, and from Vathy town where the ferry lands, you can catch a public bus to Pythagorio. If you tell the fare collector that you are going to Proteas they will let you off before town, just in front of the entrance to the resort. Busses do not run very often so be sure to check the schedule. We tried to catch the bus back to Vathy from a stop up the street from the resort, but in spite of their general reliability it did not show up and we ended up taking a cab to be sure we were not late for our ferry back. Nice common areas, nice tennis court. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"A wonderful place to recharge"

From your welcome to your friendly good bye, Proteas Blu and it's staff make you feel very relaxed and welcome. The hotel is situated a little way outside Pythagoria and has it's own pebble beach with very comfortable loungers! Coming back from the beach and going to reception or the main restaurants makes sure that you get your exercise for the day -"Cardiac Hill" but should the challenge be too daunting you can call for a golf cart! The sea is very clear and it was lovely to be able to see fish swimming with you. The sea it a bit rocky but the hotel has cleared paths into the water so it isn't so difficult to get into the sea. The food is lovely and the fresh orange juice a must. You can walk into Pythagoria or the hotel will call a cab which will not break the bank! The only negative is the slightly smelly drains and the very smelly cesspit that you have to pass to get to the beach. Definitely a place we would visit again - and we don't often go back to places !!
"Another wonderful week in Samos"

This was our second visit to the Proteus Blu and it didn't disappoint, this was a special occasion and we were met by a beautiful cake and bottle of champagne and upgraded to a bungalow room with lovely views. The beach is spotless and the sunbeds are wonderful. On our first day I left my purse containing over 200 euros on a table in the pool bar, this was handed in by the pool boy and unfortunately I didn't get the thank and reward him as apparently it was his last day at the resort. That was a shame but also gives an indication of the quality of the staff here. I must say the resort did seem a bit tired since last year and I noticed there was litter in the pool toilets that was still there a day later, our room was kept spotless by the lovely chambermaid and we were greeted by a little flower display on the bed everyday, my only gripe with the rooms is I think the bathrooms could do with updating.

This hotel is amazing! The perfect location to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We went for a week and loved all of it! The food was everything you could hope for and more! There was a different menu everyday and a good range of choice! Everything tasted fantastic and the staff were really polite and helpful. The room was really clean and had a perfect view to sea, like every place in the hotel had this special view that you are going to love. Regards to the whole team of proteas blu that made our holidays excellent and special! We definatly going to come back next year ! You will not be disappointed by this hotel!
"Recommended, but not perfect"

First, this is a beautiful hotel with good facilities. If you don't want to leave the hotel, here you probably don't have to. Good location, not far from the airport or the beautiful small town of Pythagoreio. Every room is advertised to have an ocean view and it's probably true. The view is beautiful, with the ocean and the mountains on the other side. The reason I didn't give this a five star review is probably mostly because it is advertised as a five star hotel, but didn't always feel like that to me. Sometimes they forget to fill the minibar, the internet is slow and the room was perhaps not quite as classy as one would expect. I also would've liked a better service poolside and at the beach.

We stayed at this hotel towards the end of the season and it was just amazing. Pool and beach mostly to ourselves, staff in the restaurant couldn't do enough for us. We almost felt like family. We had a little beach side villa with views across to Turkey. The setting is spectacular. Highly recommended. Warning, it is a hike to get to breakfast from the little beach front villa's so if you don't particularly want this first thing in the morning, stay in the hotel itself.

Very helpful and friendly reception staff. A beautiful setting with breathtaking views over the sea to Turkey. The sea is crystal clear and Yannis, the beach attendant, kept the beach immaculate and nothing was too much trouble. Be aware, the path to the beach from the hotel is very steep. There is a buggy to call to give you a lift if required. Beach shoes are a good idea as the small pebbles are hot and sharp. The bay is private and peaceful with the only sound the lapping of waves. I never managed to get wi fi anywhere in the hotel but others did spasmodically. It was a nice gesture from the hotel to receive little gifts of wine, nuts, a facial treatment and a leaving gift of honey and nougat. Pythagorion is a lovely harbour town to visit nearby. The room 105 was very pleasant and kept very clean by the maid but the bathroom needs updating and not 5 star. Nonetheless, we would return if we were visiting Samos.
"I love this hotel!"

this is my third year at this hotel and I recommend it even more highly than last year! The staff were so welcoming and made me feel so special. My husband had his 50th birthday there this year and we had the most amazing meal in the gourmet restaurant. There was a knock on our door before we went and there was a member of staff with champagne, cake and a big card! Our room had the most amazing view of the sea, and at the end of our stay we had a change and went into a suite with private pool. These are new for the Protease and are so beautiful. We also had a meal in the boat restaurant again suspended over the sea, which is an adventure in itself! If you like seafood, then it is a must do! So you have lovely clean rooms, all with sea views, terrific staff who cannot do enough for you, the beach, the pool area and fantastic restaurants all in one valley. If you do want to see some of the Island and of course you should Pythagoria is only a 25 minute walk away, or a short taxi ride. I love exploring, but this hotel is so lovely that it makes it difficult to leave. I felt like Shirley Valentine; I really would have liked to have stayed! (with my husband though of course!) Can't wait till next year! Melanie and James England
"Great for honeymoon!"
08/22/14 MrsTraveller2014 Helsinki, Finland
We went to Proteas Blu for our honeymoon in August 2014. It was a great decision, the staff really made our honeymoon something to remember! They accommodate us to this fabulous suite for no charge and also made sure that all of our requests were met during the 7 days. The town close by was nice and small, we had some dinners there. Also quality of food in Proteas is excellent. We enjoyed mostly the beach rather than the pool but both areas are beautiful. I would recommend to anyone on their honeymoon. On Instagram you'll find some pictures of happy people under Proteas:)

This review should have been very easy to write, almost every aspect of the hotel, staff, beach, experience etc. etc were wonderful. What most other reviews write are true, it is simply amazing. * Room 1 We had a bungalow close to the main building at first. As far as we could tell most of the standard rate bungalows were very similar, so this would probably be true for most(?). The bungalow was fairly large with two adjoined beds, a small sofa, a desk, a couple of chairs, mini bar, safe and closet space. Tiled floors, plastered walls and good lights. The balcony wasn't too spacious, but a table, two chairs but still enough room for our floating mattresses. We also got a welcome gift of some fruit, two free bottles of water ( €1 per 0.5l in the mini bar [Which is quite OK]), and a free bottle of white wine (375ml?), quite nice. The beds was quite OK, and had also a spare pair of pillows for those wanting those.. The bathroom was quite OK with a combined shower and bathtub. Normal toilet and sink. Quite standard bathroom. The AC was a bit too weak and we found it not able to get the room to an acceptable temperature at night (It was 32 degrees C outside at 23:30 at night after all), not sure what the temperature was inside. * Room 2 About halfway out in our stay we got a nice call saying that we were to be upgraded to a suite with our own pool (yay!). The suites are 83 kvm/m^2 including the patio/pool, quite spacious. This room was something entirely different compared to the previous room, and it was extremely fantastic to say it a bit cautiously. The suite was split into four parts. 1. Patio: The patio consisted of the pool (14kvm) and the seating area with a large double sunbed and a sofa group. The pool was consistently about 1.7m deep, and you could do about 6-8 swimming strokes. Quite nice for your own, private pool. 2. Living room: The bedroom and living room could be separated by two adjoining sliding doors. The living room consisted of a sofa with a chaise lounge, a (coffee) table and a desk with bar stools mounted to the wall. It also had a nice, new-ish flat screen TV, and its separate (quite powerful) AC system. 3. The bedroom: The bedroom was about the same size as the living room, with a large king size bed in it. When we arrived the bed was surrounded by cloth stripes hanging from the roof (This probably has a name, but I dont know. There are pictures of this on the Internet, so go google it.. :) ), very cool and luxurious. It also had a separate AC system from the living room, a mini bar, safe, desk closet etc. Everything a "normal" room would have. The bed was a bit hard, but nothing worrisome, just a small matter of taste. We missed another pair of pillows though. The green pillows used to make the bed presentable when made did not function as sleeping pillows underneath the normal pillows since they were excruciating hard. 4. Bathroom The bathroom was very large, with a nice fourway shower (water from above, head, privates, and detachable), bathtub, toilet, two beautiful, blue, transparent sinks. The bathroom also provides a nice variety of different sized towels, and two bathrobes. Simply amazing, and really delightful with the private pool. Thank you Proteas for choosing to upgrade us. The beach: The beach was, as other have written about 400 meters from the main building but down a somewhat steep hill meaning that you will break a sweat going up it. But if you wanted to you could pick up the phone just to the side of the beach, and ask for the bellboys to come and pick you up in their small, electric golf cars. The beach is located in a small bay with cliffs to either side making it entirely private to the hotel. The beach is filled with sun beds with pink, nice mattresses and bamboo(?) parasols in bamboo and pink colours. The beach wasn't sand, but small, round/rolling pebbles, quite normal for a Hellenic beach in other words. Just next to the beach there was the beach bar which would provide you with refreshments, snacks, and a bit more shade from the sun. Being so close to Turkey there really wasn't any waves to complain about, so nice and blue water without any danger of being closed due to wind and waves. There is also a tonne of various fish varying from small to probably 20cm swimming around the whole place making it very fun to snorkel. The staff was very professional and nice. There if you need them, but not in the way and not bothering you when you don't need them. Always offering a lift if they are driving past you outside walking etc. They will also call for taxis to get you into the town, Pythagoreion. The taxi only costs €7 to town, and €5 back (fixed price). Some also say that the pictures here at tripadvisor don't tell the whole story, and can't truly show the beauty of the place, and they are absolutely correct. The place and the hotel is more lush and beautiful than the pictures and the reviews show. I would like to thank all the staff (Anastacia, Mirella, Magda, Daphne, Iannis/Yannis at the restaurant and the beach towel boy) and all the other people making this a wonderful week for us.
