This is a great resort, on the beach, with a fantastic pool also. It is close to town and an easy drive to Vathy. Being perched on the side of hill is also a great way to stay in shape. This is common in Greece. The views are priceless too.

We got a very good deal online ($25/night) and for that price this hotel was outstanding. It is a resort, with all rooms having a view of the water and their own private porch. We were in the hotel (as opposed to the bungalows) and the room was clean and well appointed. There is wifi throughout the building, and a nice spa with sauna and cool pool. Weather was too chilly for swimming but the outdoor pool and ocean beach are both very nice, though the beach furniture was a bit in dis-repair (possibly because it was the end of the tourist season).
Tips: You can walk to town in about 25 minutes and it's not a bad walk though there is no sidewalk for much of the way. Otherwise you pay $5-7Euro to get to town. In town there are cute restaurants and some grocery stores. If you want to see the island or plan to go to town often and don't want to walk, consider renting a car or scooter.
We took the ferry over from Turkey, and from Vathy town where the ferry lands, you can catch a public bus to Pythagorio. If you tell the fare collector that you are going to Proteas they will let you off before town, just in front of the entrance to the resort. Busses do not run very often so be sure to check the schedule. We tried to catch the bus back to Vathy from a stop up the street from the resort, but in spite of their general reliability it did not show up and we ended up taking a cab to be sure we were not late for our ferry back.
Nice common areas, nice tennis court.

The personnel were incredibly nice and serviceminded. The breakfast were soo delicious, the view amazing! Coming home to a made bed every day and small surprises. The enviroment, service, landscape was like paradise on earth! We had our honeymoon their in August 2014 and we couldnt have picked a better place! Thank you Proteas Blu Resort! <3 "SEAyousoon
Great hotel, personnel very friendly and relax, very clean also. The food splendid and with a big variety.
The rooms could have been better, not exactly 5 stars but the rest of the hotel is
gorgeous. Golfcarts pick you up from the beachbar to where your room is.
The beach itself is also splendid with nice wide sunbeds
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes a nice, relaxing holiday without screaming kids. Although I love the little ones.
We went back to Samos for a two week vacation and this year decided to combine two hotels.
The Proteas blu resort was our second hotel.
Good things about hotel: Perfect location with magnificent view, efficient air condition, large rooms, good fridges, excellent breakfast, mostly good dinners ( sometimes the hot food in the buffet was only luke-warm), good Wifi in rooms.
Why we will not go back:
- At beach there are different beach beds, you have to be up early to get the good ones.
- The place feels so isolated. You can not even buy water on site. Beer is expensive on site.
- You have to take taxi to go to Pythagorion. You feel very isolated, there is not much to do, and it just ends up being boring.
- Personnel in restaurant took forever to serve you coffee. Almost every morning I had to go up and ask them to come with the coffee. The phrase “ with great pleasure I will offer you some coffee” was not delivered very convincingly.
- Food is not gourmet, but mostly ok. We had half-board and had to pay for water at every dinner (should have been included).
- For a hotel claiming to be a luxury spa it amazing that their bath towels were relatively small and the rough kind, not the smooth soft one (saving on softener in the wash?).
So a lot of little details, but the main thing being, felt too bit too clinical, too impersonal and above all isolated.
If you are an inexperienced young traveler that don´t care for the detail and who is used to cheap hotels this might be paradise hotel, but for a more middle age couples who has been around some, appreciating the fine things in life, sincere service, attention to detail etc. this is not the place for you.
No need to keep looking for a hotell! Book this! from the minut we stepped out of the bus the staff made sure we had a perfect week, and we did! Everything was excellent. We travel alot around 3-4 times a year, and this is by far the best place to be in europe. The food at the hotell was great, drinks, food at the beach/pool, we have nothing to complain about. The only thing is that if you like to work-out the gym is little to small! But thats it :)
We just booked next year again, and this time two weeks, we cant wait!
We love this hotel with breath-taking view to the Egean see in lovely island of Samos, no surprise that this was our 3rd stay there. The sea view suite with own pool was lovely and beutifully decorated. This was the first time EVER when we were asked our preference for the cleaning lady's visit, points for that. The main panorama restaurant served tasty food and the gourmet restaurant was excellent (try starter with crabs, it was like a piece of art). The Cavo Pountes beach bar is worth visiting (we visited every night..), especially strawberry daiquiri was best ever. There was also live program but unfortunately we missed most of Friday nights' international set. The 19 year old singer was excellent and her voice matched perfectly this set. The only ideas for improvement concern the timings for main restaurant: a breakfast time until at least 10.30 am and a dinner starting from 7 pm until 10 pm would be appreciated. The selection of gift shop could be expanded, e.g. to some local silver jewel, not too expensive (I have a Chinese cabinet full of jewel but there is always room for new pieces...). This hotel is worth money spent if you look for a relaxing holiday in beautiful environment.
Well this was our fourth time at the Proteas and it was brilliant. There are lots of reasons that these are the best two weeks of the year and I will try to explain them now
*Beautiful, clean room with a balcony with wonderful view of the sea
*The hotel is right on the beach, ok it is on a steep hill, which is great because you can go home a bit fitter!
*there is a great pool too
*Great food at all the restaurants
*All the bars have fab views, the one on the beach is my favourite as it feels as though you are on a glamorous ship!
*Adults only, so it is quiet and relaxing
*The staff are so kind and friendly, in fact I should say 'friends' instead of staff, as they are!
Staying at Proteas Blu is living the dream, my only sadness is that I had to wake up after two weeks and come home!
Having previously come from famous Santorini and viewed its iconic sunset view from Oia, I am convinced that Pythagorion should become famous in its own right for the view (from the pool balcony in Proteas Blu) of the sun-rising over the Turkish coast.
The resort is situated on a private beach and the only slight negative is the steep incline to breakfast each morning. To counter this they have built a series of terraced gardens, stairways and lifts which are beautifully land-scaped. They also have a number of golf buggies to collect your luggage and collect you from your unit if walking is a problem.
Apart from the stunning view and location (the beach even had some sandy areas to wade in on which is rare since Samos island is mostly pebbly) the service is the other reason you should come to Proteas Blu. All the staff tried so hard to make our stay perfect, from the waiters to the hotel concierge and entertainment staff we felt very well taken care of and they had a personal approach which made us feel very welcome.
There was live evening entertainment and the Saturday night Greek wedding was charming and had us up at the end of the night learning to join in the Greek dancing.
It was our 20th wedding anniversary and they upgraded us from a seafront bungalow to a private swimming pool suite which was amazing.
The general swimming pool was heavenly situated on a terrace above the beach with stunning views. It had several shallow in pool sun bathing areas and a separate jacuzzi which sadly was not heated.
Everything was very clean and I noticed the jacuzzi being emptied and cleaned by hand then refilled early one morning.
Generally the whole resort was maintained and cleaned to a high standard.
The food was good without being exceptional with a good selection of buffet for breakfast and dinner and two a la carte restaurants which were open on different evenings and a lunch restaurant which was also very good. We tried all three including the exclusive fish and oyster restaurant which was semi-private dining on board a sailing yacht, suspended over the sea and connected by a gangway. The menu selection was small but the ambience more than made up for it.
It is a large resort with around 80 bungalows but was not fully occupied when we were there so we felt we were in a more intimate resort. The other tourists seemed to be predominantly European with many couples and some families with older teens. There were no children and it seems the resort was adults only. We came across several honeymooners and I would say the resort is well suited to romantic holidays.
My wife and I found practically everything perfect at Proteas Blu Resort: tasteful architecture, comfortable, spacey rooms, technical installations that always work, a choice of restaurants with excellent food and service, a wonderful beach, convenient location for excursions in Samos, yet peaceful surroundings. The staff is the most valuable asset of the resort: always friendly faces, kind words, helpful in the extreme, highly competent.
We visited Proteas Blu with my husband for our anniversary and we were surprised with the hotel's location and quality!they treat u with welcome drink and sweets when you check in and take you with golf cars to your room.We stayed in the suite which was spacious, very nice decorated with a spectacular view. The areas of the swimming pool and the beach are ideal for relaxing! We booked our dinner at the fish and oyster restaurant -the boat-!Romantic atmosphere excellent dishes!we will come back for sure!
This hotel falls into two parts - so much of it is fantastic but it isn't truly 5 star as there are a couple of things that really don't work.
The good bits are: great location, stunning views, great rooms ( we had one of the pool suites), friendly staff
The bits that are not 5 star are the food (particularly the service and attention to detail) and the lack of concierge facility. It really feels that no-one is truly taking charge on the food experience and making it 5 star. A quick lunch snack at the pool can take 90 mins, the special boat dinner had taken 2.5 hours before we gave up waiting, breakfast has only lukewarm hot water for teas, very indifferent coffee (Expressos etc get charged for) Apart from the tea and coffee, the actual food was good but the service just didn't encourage you to go back
I was surprised by the lack of concierge facility. We wanted to organise a private tour to Ephesus and we were just given names of tour operators in the local town.
Finally I would have expected a 5 star hotel to have some facility to hire snorkels, goggles etc given how nice the beach was
In short, fantastic infrastructure they just need further work on how to deliver the whole 5 star experience
