"Great views and nice rooms"
We got a very good deal online ($25/night) and for that price this hotel was outstanding. It is a resort, with all rooms having a view of the water and their own private porch. We were in the hotel (as opposed to the bungalows) and the room was clean and well appointed. There is wifi throughout the building, and a nice spa with sauna and cool pool. […] Weather was too chilly for swimming but the outdoor pool and ocean beach are both very nice, though the beach furniture was a bit in dis-repair (possibly because it was the end of the tourist season). Tips: You can walk to town in about 25 minutes and it's not a bad walk though there is no sidewalk for much of the way. Otherwise you pay $5-7Euro to get to town. In town there are cute restaurants and some grocery stores. If you want to see the island or plan to go to town often and don't want to walk, consider renting a car or scooter. We took the ferry over from Turkey, and from Vathy town where the ferry lands, you can catch a public bus to Pythagorio. If you tell the fare collector that you are going to Proteas they will let you off before town, just in front of the entrance to the resort. Busses do not run very often so be sure to check the schedule. We tried to catch the bus back to Vathy from a stop up the street from the resort, but in spite of their general reliability it did not show up and we ended up taking a cab to be sure we were not late for our ferry back. Nice common areas, nice tennis court. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Me and my girlfriend had 7 fantastic days at Proteas Blu Resort! The staff was kind, the surroundings were fantastic nice and the buffet in the morning were simply great! Only downside, were the newly renovated room, were a few features were missing. Otherwise, a fantastic stay that we can only reccomend to others!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hotel with Excellent service"

We stayed here for 6 nights in September. The room we had was more than adequate with a great view looking out to Turkey. The rooms were serviced everyday and staff were all very customer focussed. We ate at Pool bar a few times and food was excellent and not expensive. Yannias at beach bar looked after us with impeccable service. We ate most nights in the village about 7 euro by taxi. The times we ate at Proteas Blu the food was good buffet style. The beach has crystal clear water we swam most days at beach. A worthwhile trip is Ephesus in Turkey several travel agents in village do this trip.Takes about 90mins on ferry and 30 mins bus trip to Ephesus cost about 55 euro. All in all a great stay and would highly recommend this hotel.
"Not quite worthy of 5 stars, but still very good"
10/09/14 Gerrit-StPauwels Sint-Gillis-Waas, Belgium
OK, this hotel is rated 5 stars, but that is stretching things. It's probably the best hotel in Samos, but because of a few points, it is not a 5 star hotel. Why ? Rooms are not up to 5stars. They are too small and a bit dated. Except for the refurbished rooms which are superb. So try to get one of the renovated rooms Diner and breakfast is very good, but I've had 5star hotels with even better fare. Mind you : again, food is excellent. But just not up to 5 stars And though the wellness and fitness have all you need, everything from the pool to the fitness room is rather small. Again : great for a 4 star, but just not up to 5 star level. On the other hand, location is great. You get a fantastic view on the sea, with Asia Minor in the back. The garden is beautiful, staff is really very friendly and helpful, prices are reasonable and the whole atmosphere of the hotel is one of quiet relaxation. This is really a great hotel if you are looking for peace and quiet. The lovely town of Pythagorio is only 3 km away. You can get there very easily but alas, the walk to the village is by a busy road. Not quite a nice walk conclusion : if you really expect 5 star quality, you will not get it. But this is and remains a very good hotel.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 weeks from 11 September. The service was fantastic and we enjoyed the bars, the pool and the beach (pebbles but lovely sea). The beach bar was open until late so no problem when the pool bar closed as it was a few steps down to the beach bar overlooking wonderful scenery. Prices in all the bars were not unreasonable and the Samos wine was easily drinkable. We were B&B and ate only one meal in the hotel, the Gala dinner on the first night, because we wanted to eat out mainly in Pythagoria. The dinner in the hotel was a five course affair and was excellent both in quality, service and value for money. Pythagoria was most enjoyable with a variety of bars and restaurants at different qualities but overall no problems and the Samos people are most friendly. The hotel is half way down a hill so a tiring walk up from the beach and back from Pythagoria. However, the taxis were not expensive Euros 6 going and 5 return. Forgot my driving licence so didn't see too much of the island but enjoyed the 3 trips we did. Overall I would say for a package hotel this is the closest you get to 5 star. Will definately return.
"A wonderful time at a great resort"

A lot of very positive reviews have been written about the Proteas Blu hotel and in many ways we found what we read it true. After reading some reviews on Tripadvisor I had some concerns about the bathroom, the wifi, the walking to the city. I will address these issues in my review. Proteas Blu consists of little bungalows and a large main building on top of the hill with additional rooms and restaurants, reception, spa etc. For dinner and breakfast you have to go to the main building. We stayed in a little bungalow and it can be quite a cardiac challenging climb to reach the main building. There is a buggy available to drive you, but we never felt the need to use it. Just keep in mind that if you have a problem walking that this might cost you extra time. They have elevators here and there, but still some parts you will have to do walking up/downwards. The first bungalow we got was 301, this room doesn’t really offer much seaview, and is quite close to a cooling fan outside.. we asked for a room change and a few days later we were moved to 304 which was much better. I guess in every hotel you have rooms with better views than others, and the staff was very helpful in changing our room. One of the things that had me worried was that people wrote about the room being dated, especially the bathroom. The bedroom itself is quite fine, the bathroom is dated indeed, but not to a level it spoiled our vacation. It was kept very clean and I could see recent patchwork to the rubbers in the bathroom had been done. The size of the bathroom is also quite okay so this was not an issue for us. The WIFI in the hotel is a bit off sometimes.. you first need to connect to the hotel wifi, then you should get a login screen, and once you logged in it will work. The biggest problem we had was that the login screen didnt pop up for the first time on any of our devices, so we couldn’t login. It took about a day before we had eventually gotten it on both smartphones and ipads. After that it work reasonable. At peak hours it was slow, but during the daytime making a facetime call was no problem. Coverage is pretty much all over the hotel including the beach. The buffet restaurant where you have breakfast and dinner is run very efficiently. In the morning you have a selection of eggs, breads, cakes, salads, fruits, cookies etc… pretty much any taste is catered for. In the evening they often have theme nights (like greek night, latin night, seafood night) etc. You can pick from about 20 hot dishes at night.. often in the theme of that night, but also a few neutral ones (I don’t like seafood so I went for the more neutral ones that night, but choice was limited to 2 then). We had once a gala night, where the buffet is closed and everything is a la carte. This was very nice and changed the whole atmosphere of the restaurant to a more mellow relaxing place to eat. Somehow the gala night was only on the first wednesday we were there and not on the 2nd wednesday. Food is refilled all the time at the restaurant so if you are not there right at the opening there will be fresh food if you come 2 hours later. Both in the morning and at night there is also a cook preparing a dish on order (in the morning this was omelettes and pancakes, at night usually a theme specific dish). We liked this, and maybe the hotel could expand on this a little. We got the feeling the level of hygiene at the restaurant was very high. I only caught the staff on one mistake; at night when guests were finished the placemats were replaced with new ones (which is proper hygiene in my opinion), but in the morning they were not always replaced. I don’t know the reason for this. The staff was usually pro-active in their behaviour and if they saw a group of 4 coming and they had one 2 persons table left with seaview they did their best to fix this by putting a extra table before guests got to their table. All together the restaurant is good and we thought the food was nice and enjoyable. Getting to pythagoreon you have a few options. Taxi from the hotel is 7 euro, and coming back from town to the hotel is 5 euro. Walking is also a option. There are a few routes to walk. The shortest route is to walk from the hotel up the hill to the main road, and follow this road for 2.5km. However, the traffic drives quite fast, and there is often no sidewalk creating a rather hazardous situation at times. The route we used was much more pleasant. You walk up the main road towards the klikos car rental (sidewalk this part), then you keep on going for about another 100 meters till you reach a sign “ Bella Vista apartments”, there you go down a little dirt road.. from there on you follow the road (no traffic at all) till you reach the marina. At the marina you can have a drink or continue to pythagoreon using the pedestrian road (signposted there). This route is slightly longer, but much more pleasant to walk).. Walking from the hotel to the marina is 25 mins and from the marina to the city another 15 mins. We often walked there and took the taxi back. The pool is usually pretty quiet compared to the beach. They have plenty of cute little seating areas at the pool and beach. We usually went down to the beach in the morning to see the sunrise at the beach. Even when the hotel is fully booked it never gave us the feeling that it was. Maybe a useful tip for the hotel to consider: Give the welcome drink as a voucher so you can have it at your own convenience.. instead of giving it when you check in. The time to really sit and enjoy the drink was too short and besides, after a long flight most people just want to get to their room and rest. I would certainly recommend this hotel to others. We had a great time here and if we ever visit Samos again, this will be the place we will stay. A Job well done by hard working people!
"Doesn't meet expectations"
Overall an ok experience, the main fault being that it is listed as a 5 star hotel, which heightened our expectations only for them not to be met. We were given a twin room, despite being referred to as Mr and Mrs throughout our stay. There was a leak in the bathroom which was covered each day with a towel. The girls at the pool bar during the day were excellent, attentive and friendly - particularly Elizabeth. However being just the 2 of them, they couldn't offer pool side service which is expected and delivered in other 5 star hotels. It would also be nice to have been able to order food later than 4pm and drinks later than 6. It would be nice to have a restaurant that was less formal - every one requires trousers and collared shirts for gents. Thalasea was exceptional - food was great and our waiter Stelios offered fantastic service. Reception staff were less than friendly throughout our visit. However this was particularly noticeable when we needed a Dr (who is apparently on call at all times) we were told to go to hospital. Following this we were not feeling up to eating in public and with a limited room service menu, we asked if we could get the local restaurant to deliver. We were simply told this is not a service they provide. In this rare situation it would have been nice for them to help a little. I would recommend to eat in the local town as it has a great selection of restaurants with the price bring halved, and the quality doubled. As mentioned an ok experience but didn't include the finer details expected at a 5 star resort.

This hotel was as a little more contemporary than I usually go for and a bit steep, making getting from beach to reception a bit of a task especially in the heat. We had the option of using the Electric Buggy which we made full use of!! For some reason not all the restaurants are open all the time and no food at all served from the beach bar which relied on a very limited room service menu. The other options were a little formal. We hired a car and found some lovely beach front restaurants and mountain villages, we were always pleased to return to our hotel though and found it a great base to see the island. It was a peaceful and relaxing holiday, the staff couldn't have been nicer. I recommend this hotel.
"Best vacation ever"

First vacation for me and my wife since we got kids 1994. Proteas blu resort is all that you want on a vacation without kids. From the moment you come here you feel the calm atmosphere. Free wifi in your room and hotell and free spa , jacuzzi and indoor pool and sauna. The pool area is clean and tidy and the sundbeds are wounderful. Phytagorion have many restuarants and bars but if i can recomend some its to eat at Afrodite and take a nice drink or dessert on Anthemis Bar & Café. Danne / Erene Sep 9-16 2014
"Excellent place to relax"
09/14/14 Dorben Oensingen
The hotel is nicely located around 3-4 km away from the beautyful city of Pythagorion. It is quite stylish and comfortable, especially the many different sunbeds at the pool and the little beach. Also the garden area and the restaurants are nicely decorated with lots of flowers and Greek art. The restaurants have a good standard, the food is delicious and the prices reasonable. The only two things I would see some improvement potential are 1) the cleanliness of the rooms (our bath was not always properly cleaned) and 2) the friendliness of the staff (they are helpful but you do not really feel that they really like what they do). Overall a very nice place to relax and recharge.
"A wonderful place to recharge"

From your welcome to your friendly good bye, Proteas Blu and it's staff make you feel very relaxed and welcome. The hotel is situated a little way outside Pythagoria and has it's own pebble beach with very comfortable loungers! Coming back from the beach and going to reception or the main restaurants makes sure that you get your exercise for the day -"Cardiac Hill" but should the challenge be too daunting you can call for a golf cart! The sea is very clear and it was lovely to be able to see fish swimming with you. The sea it a bit rocky but the hotel has cleared paths into the water so it isn't so difficult to get into the sea. The food is lovely and the fresh orange juice a must. You can walk into Pythagoria or the hotel will call a cab which will not break the bank! The only negative is the slightly smelly drains and the very smelly cesspit that you have to pass to get to the beach. Definitely a place we would visit again - and we don't often go back to places !!
"Another wonderful week in Samos"

This was our second visit to the Proteus Blu and it didn't disappoint, this was a special occasion and we were met by a beautiful cake and bottle of champagne and upgraded to a bungalow room with lovely views. The beach is spotless and the sunbeds are wonderful. On our first day I left my purse containing over 200 euros on a table in the pool bar, this was handed in by the pool boy and unfortunately I didn't get the thank and reward him as apparently it was his last day at the resort. That was a shame but also gives an indication of the quality of the staff here. I must say the resort did seem a bit tired since last year and I noticed there was litter in the pool toilets that was still there a day later, our room was kept spotless by the lovely chambermaid and we were greeted by a little flower display on the bed everyday, my only gripe with the rooms is I think the bathrooms could do with updating.
