Could have done without bed springs poking from matress, making for a sleepless night.Hot water that should've been more than just luke warm.

Hotel is improving as decoration works are progressing. Rooms are last on the list though and need some TLC. Heating system is from the Ark and desperately needs upgrading to give guest control of their comfort in th rooms. The pub downstairs has freindlly locals and the food is godd value pub meals.

Staircase and common areas decorated since my last visit in Sept 2012. Staff are very freindly and helpful. Nexct improvement should be the heating system. The rooms need to be a few degrees warmer!

Yes this hotel has some work to do but the proprietors have only recently taken on the G & D and have much work to do. This is an old building so if you want sterile 20th century rooms and decor don't book this hotel. If you want character, history and a bit of eccentricity you will like it. Food was excellent but decor in need of some TLC. Manger advised me that Public areas are scheduled for refurbishment Oct- Nov 2012.and bedrooms refurbished early in the new year. This pub is very popular with the locals so a great atmosphere and very comfortable.

We have stayed here several times before and I have known it for many years before that. As always, the welcome was friendly, the room clean and the food good. BUT..the whole place needs attention. Each time we've stayed, there has always been some small detail, like a door or window latch clearly left broken for some time, scuffed paintwork and the […] like. It looks as if no-one goes around the rooms checking the general state of repair or if they do, that they don't care or have insufficient time to carry out basic maintenance. This time we were in Room 11, basically a nice room...but the door to the WC and handbasin cannot be shut as the catch doesn't. Further the bolt to hold it shut lacks the toggle and in any event only catches on the wooden door frame. These things may be minor, but it makes it seem as no-one cares or can be bothered..which is unfortunate, given that the staff are actually all nice, friendly folk! Read more

Overall the hospitality and condition,cleanliness of this Inn left much to be desired. We even had to pay a £10 cash deposit if we wanted a remote to watch TV.The one thing I would say though is that the evening food in the restaurant(bar) was absolutely superb. A great place to eat but certainly not to sleep!
