My son-in-law is a FEDEX driver and he suggested the Courtyard By Marriott because "the people are friendly and the hotel looks great." He was totally right on all counts.

This hotel is in a great part of town - safe and lots of restaurant/shopping choices nearby. Staff was friendly and accomodating and we loved our room. It smelled fresh and was clean as a whistle. There is a nice, large lobby with a wall-size interactive touch-screen computer to help you locate attractions or dining establishments among other things. […] The only minor complaint we had was that the hotel info sheet in the room states that there is complimentary coffee available every morning in the lobby, but when we went to get a couple of cups we were told by staff that they had discontinued the service three weeks ago. On the positive side, the staff had housekeeping give us some extra coffee pods so that we could make it ourselves in our guestroom coffeepot. The hotel was really nice and there is a few restaurants in the parking lot so you don't even have to drive anywhere. I don't like that you can't drink your own alcohol in the lobby and outside sitting area.

Overall, everything was fine -- we asked for a quiet room and while there was no hallway or elevator noise, the clerk put us in a room with some large AC compressors right outside. My husband could not hear them, but I could hear them droning which was somewhat bothersome. We did find it strange that there are TVs in the hallways by the elevators. Overall, wonderful. I was disappointed that they did not replenish the shampoo and amenities each day and with me involved in a tennis tournament, would have been nice to have that available for my many showers daily. Also wanted the bar area to be open for early afternoon wine and cheese, but wasn't available.

I should have looked better at the reservation, but I was shocked that breakfast was not free. This hotel cost more per night than others (about double) so I just assumed it would be top of the line. Upon check-in I asked if I could switch our room to two queen beds instead of a King. I was told very rudely NO because I booked online(like I was some second class citizen). The hotel was nice, but loud, a drawer was broken on the dresser. The next morning I went down to the bistro to get coffee and maybe something to eat, but they were so slow and […] I waited in line about 10 minutes and just gave up and got a cup of the free coffee(which was not bad). This was a very comfortable hotel. It was very convenient to get to and the staff were personable and helpful (and had a sense of humor). The conference rooms were also comfortable (not too cold, well padded chairs, and good a/v equipment). The breakfasts were tasty, but the lunch meal was very bland (i.e., boiled chicken with no seasonings), and the sides were soaked in tons of butter. So, was it perfect? The hotel is VERY VERY nice--kinda strange ultra modern in Tyler Tx. The rooms are very well appointed--like a hotel in the future. Rooms are very small, but well done. The pool is micro but great, the hot tub fantastico. The back patio would be awesome for a gathering. Kinda expensive, but is nice for a hotel.
