      I had to make a very short trip (2 days) to Marseilles from San Francisco and needed a place to assure me of good sleep, access to WiFi, and a good breakfast. The Palm Beach which is right on the water provided all of these plus a very relaxing resort-like atmosphere. The hotels only drawback is its location - well outside the city center. I am sure this is not a problem for the bulk of its European clientele but it is a drawback for those of us who love to walk and explore the city.

    The hotel as such was quite nice, with clean large rooms. However, the so-called continental breakfast, which can be had for 12 Euros, consisted of a baguette, some jam and honey and a glass of juice. I found the price ridiculously expensive for this type of food. Worse, the hotel claimed that Internet connection over WiFi was available in all rooms. […] However, this turned out not to be the case, as my room was located too far from the reception where the router was placed. When I pointed this out to the receptionist, she acknowledged that she was already well aware of this, and that I could try to position my computer at different points in the room to see if that helped (it of course didn’t). So if you book a room, do not expect the Internet connection to work. Read more
