We enjoyed our stay. Our room had a lovely view of the river. we had a screened porch we could sit on to view it. The staff was friendly and helpful. Each room has a different set up and size so you should check the website to be sure you are getting a room that meets your needs. The town of Oxford is very small and very pleasant. Some excellent restaurants. […] We took the ferry (right down the street) to St Micheals for an afternoon. More to do there. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Romantic Getaway with a view"
Went here for a one night romantic getaway with my Fiance. The place is like a converted mansion. Was greeted at the door by the innkeeper. Nice guy, offered a room upgrade for only $40 since I was staying in the small room they have, called the Cozy queen. It was a small room, nicely decorated with a claw foot bath tub. The place is right on the bay. […] My fiance and I enjoyed watching the sunset on the lawn chairs. In the morning, they brought a breakfast basket to our doorstep with coffee, some coffee cakes, cinnamon buns, yogurt, etc. It was so nice. I would definitely stay here again. Super quiet, low key, great place to go and get away from it all. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

It was very nice to have you, and we do hope to see you again in Oxford, Maryland! Safe travels, Ben Gibson - Innkeeper
This is a delightful little inn on a river right off the Chesapeake Bay. The setting is picture perfect for relaxing and resting. Not much of a nightlife but that goes along with the tranquil part. The inn is well maintained with a nice selections of coffees and snacks. "Great Couples Getaway"
My wife and I were excited to get away from the 3 kids for a romantic one-night getaway. We arrived and were offered a room upgrade at check-in for a nominal fee. The room was fabulous (River, Deluxe, 2nd Fl) with amazing views of the river even while lying in bed! Binoculars are even provided in the room to view waterfowl on the river. It was a really […] windy night and we heard some banging during the wee hours, but the staff were responsive and even came out at 1 a.m. to secure rocking chairs in the adjacent unoccupied rooms. They offered to move us to another room, and when we declined, they waived the upgrade fee. Breakfast was delivered at 9 a.m. as promised and was yummy. Aside from the room, other amenities including the boat house and the library/pantry in the main house were also nice. The hotel is a short walk to the Robert Morris Inn, where we enjoyed a fabulous dinner featuring local foods. We will definitely be back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"a sea glass collectors dream"
I needed a little rest and relaxation and Sandaway was the perfect spot. the rolling lawn down to the beach was dotted with white Adirondak chairs with a beautiful view of the water. i brought a book with me but only read a few pages as I spent most of the time gazing out at the peaceful view! The breakfast basket provided at my doorstep the next morning […] was filled with goodies and a hot pot of coffee. remember to let them know if you are not a coffee drinker! There is a 24 hour cozy library just off the entryway which has snacks and beverages at no cost. The beach offered a fun collecting spree of sea glass. I actually found several rare pieces of hand blown glass! I will definitely return next fall. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"views, views, views"

We stayed at Sandaway in the off season and loved every minute. Our room was lovely (grateful for the tv-free space!) with wide views over the lawn to the river, with sunset smack in the middle of the picture window. Comfy bed, soft linens, good shower in a large bathroom. We had the boathouse common room to ourselves in the afternoon. Innkeeper very professional and helpful, providing a listing of restaurants that were still open at that time of year, and suggesting places of interest to visit. (The nearby town of Easton is charming.) The breakfast basket was fine, though one morning we went to the Robert Morris Inn for a cooked hot breakfast. Comfortable sitting area with good lighting for reading. Looking forward to a return visit in the spring!
"A pretty spot, and pretty private, too"

We found this place through a TravelZoo offer, and for $199 for two nights (plus local tax), it was spectacular. We had the place to ourselves, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. We enjoy the beach in the winter, so the chill was not a problem, but the wind whistling through the cracks made for a less-than-ideal night. Too bad, because the bed was heavenly, and the heat was efficient. The bathroom was very small, and could have used a heat bulb on the timer instead of a regular flood, since it didn't get any heat with the door closed. We are usually light eaters, so the basket of breakfast goodies was fine, and it was delivered on time. The coffee was better at the self-serve down in the sitting room, which was a very cozy place to enjoy board games or TV in the evening. I would not recommend the upper level rooms for anyone with knee problems; the curve of the stairs narrows the steps to a treacherous angle near the bannister, and it's easy to miss one and take a tumble. Regardless, we had a marvelous, relaxing time, and I hope we can come back when it's a bit warmer to explore the area more.
"disappointing for the price"

Visited Sandaway Thanksgiving weekend. Stayed in 3rd floor room with water view. Furnishings were old and needed updating. Antiques are fine, but furnishings were a mishmash and not in good condition. Windows were small and made it difficult to view water. Inn keepers not friendly and seemed annoyed to have to explain to us where our room was and didn't bother to show us to our room. Bathroom not attached to room and had to walk across wide hallway to get to bathroom. Ants around stand where coffee maker was. For price of >$300 were offered a basket with a lite breakfast or 15% off of breakfast at nearby inn....15% thats right. Quaint town, good food at Robert Morris Inn, unpleasant, overpriced stay at Sandaway. Beautiful property, could be so much better with care and kindness.
"A little pricey --- but worth the splurge"
12/04/14 SWN DC
The Sandaway closes over the winter months, and we were there just a few weeks before that happened. It was chilly, windy, and there was a spattering of rain off and on --- and it made for a perfect stay. The room was was well heated and insulated, even with a large picture window over the bay. The room was clean, the furnishings well maintained and the bed was comfortable. There were no negatives from check-in to check-out. For breakfast, lunch and dinner (or drinks after 5), the Robert Morris Inn is a four minute walk away. But because of where and how the Sandaway is positioned, you have a sense that you are on an isolated stretch of the Chesapeake. There are other dining options in Oxford (that can be found here on TA), but only a few. I will note that there is one of the better privately owned convenience stores in the center of "town" that is about a 10-15 minute walk away, where you can pick up freshly made deli sandwiches, sodas, and beer/wine --- all at very reasonable prices. (And right across from the convenience store is a fabulous mystery bookstore, that was part of the reason for our visit to Oxford, and the Sandaway, in the first place. We did enjoy sitting in the Adirondack chairs for all of 7 or so minutes overlooking the windswept bay, but the chill drove us back inside to the coziness of our room. We can only imagine the peacefulness of a lazy spring, summer, or fall day --- and we hope to return to experience that at some other time. Lastly --- to the mention of "pricey" in the title of this review. Yes, in our opinion it was a little pricey and we were hesitant at first to make the booking. One never knows if the cost will match the experience. In this instance, the room came with an excellent continental breakfast basket (literally), an array of bath products, and free WiFi --- and we have no regrets about our the cost of our stay.

Originally we were in the room on the third floor, very steep stairs and not a really good view, but more room in bathroom and sitting area, and you have your own tv and fridge. So they then showed us a smaller room on the 2nd floor which had a screened in porch that overlooked the bay, beautiful. The room wa much smaller, very drafty,no tv no fridge and you had to let the hot shower run for a good 15 minutes to take a hot shower. We stayed at the second room for the view, and they said they waved the upcharge which the room runs for 280.00 a night, which I felt was a little steep and especially off season. The bathroom ws really small you could sit on the toilet and lay your head on the sink. The sheets and bedding were awesome and they have them available to buy, which I will look forward to doing in the near future. The breakfast basket was a disappointment, go for the 15% on Robert Morris Inn breakfast, the Inn's food is amazing and flavorful.
"Our First Vacation Getaway B&B"

I'm sorry I'm writing this review so late. My boyfriend and I purchased a living social coupon to stay at this bed and breakfast. We'd always wanted to try out a bed and breakfast and Sandaway provided us with an amazingly wonderful experience. We arrived Oct. 13, 2014 and stayed for 2 nights. Our room was the second floor suite with the screened in porch overlooking the bay. It was picturesque!!!! Upon arrival the excitement in my boyfriend and I meshed with the excitement we received from Wendy. We knew then, this was going to be a great time. Wendy gave us the lay of the land and kept mentioning the locations of the TVs which I didn't understand, until we arrived in our room. No TV nor phone. I figured my boyfriend and I were either going to be totally sick of each other or love each other even more by the time we left there. Thanks to the wonderful amenities and nice walks through town and to the ferry boat, it was the latter. The room was very nice. It had an old time feeling to it, and a great view. The bathroom was awesome. I loved the separate shower and claw foot tub. The whole layout was very nice. We spent a lot of time on the porch reading and enjoying the view. They had a diary for the guests to write in, which was awesome to see so many others who have enjoyed their stay. We went down to the boat house which was cute. We sat a while and almost fell asleep in the Adirondack chairs. We took walks around town and my boyfriend taught me how to play chess, thanks to Sandaway providing the chess board. The staff was very friendly. Ms Mary always greeted us with a smile and asked if we needed anything, and Wendy's husband pointed out the very old tree in the back yard, which was a lovely find. We met Bill on our way out, and all were just wonderful people. For the breakfast part of the B&B, we chose to eat one day at the Morris Robert Inn, and receive the complimentary food basket on the second day. The Morris Robert Inn had a delish breakfast. I had the eggs benedict with crab meat, and my boyfriend had the bagel and lox. We were both very pleased. The complimentary food basket provided to us was very good as well. It was filled with coffee, juice, sweet breads, bananas, cookies, nuts, and yogurt. For dinner we enjoyed Sam's pizza so much, we ate it both nights. It was a nice drive to the other side of the bay, We never thought we could have such a good time in a small quiet town and especially without a TV, but we did. The only issue, which was a small one, was the gnats in our room. We didn't have any food in the room, so It may have been the blueberry air freshener I sprayed when we arrived, but there were one, then two, and by the second day many gnats. We were having wine one night and found they were attracted to it, so we isolated them to a cup with a little wine in it. It was not worth making a big deal out of, we laughed about it most of the time. I have been recommending this place to everyone, so if you get a chance, take a getaway to Oxford, MD and let the Gibson's give you a heapin helpin of their hospitality. You would definitely come back.

The Sandaway is a beautiful place to get away. You are right by the water. They have Adriondack Chairs that you can sit on and relax looking out at the water. It is very peaceful and relaxing. We were located on the third floor. This can be very difficult to navigate especially the final flight of steps. The breakfast is ok. I prefer taking their discount at the Robert Morris Inn. The four poster bed is wonderful and the room had a tv. It also had a nice view of the water. However, I would recommend taking a room on the first floor because it has a proch that has a view of the water. I really enjoyed my stay at the Sandaway and would go there again.
"A step back in time"

Absolutely loved the property, room (especially the view ) and staff. We had a corner waterfront room on the second floor with a screened in sizable porch that overlooked the river. It was so expansive that I thought it was the Chesapeake Bay! If we had a table on the porch to eat meals on I think we would have NEVER left the room. It was that comfortable and scenic. But alas...we took the quaint, short ferry ride across the river to the road that took us to St. Michaels. We had lunch and walked the main road which was tourist filled yet nice but knew we wanted to be back for sunset. We picked up subs for dinner and kicked back on the porch with adult beverages to enjoy the sunset view which was incredible. The next day we ventured south and went to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge and saw many different birds including bald eagles and had lunch in Cambridge. Oxford is a tiny town at the end of a peninsula which is centrally located to see many sights around the Chesapeake from and the Sandaway is highly recommended by myself and my wife.
Restaurants and B&B's are about experiences. Included in that are people, the one(s) your with and the staff and owner, the location, the facility and in the case of a getaway, nice weather usually helps (unless you want to be snowed in!). I strive to be constructively critical when possible. Some situations don't allow it. There are lots of choices and I always consider value. That said, my Sandaway Saturday night in late October with my new friend during a beautiful late fall weekend was, in her words, magical. In my words, effective. Ok, and magical. I booked last minute, last room I think, and we scored a great upstairs room with an incredible view of the water, sunset and lawn. We grabbed a few lawnchairs and watched the sun go down in a very spacious lawn with several other couples scattered about. During checkin, Wendy helped me look like a wizard by suggesting for just one night, we hang out at the inn and town, and have dinner across the street at the Robert Morris Inn. I was originally going to explore the nearby towns. Wisely following wise advice we took a walk in very quaint town of Oxford with squirrels and water everywhere, then the sunset, followed by dinner. The Sandaway, as explained in the website is mostly B&B and a little hotel in that there is no larger indoor common area, dining or kitchen facility. It's pretty much guest rooms and a small sitting room on the main floor with books, coffee, wine glasses etc. That was fine for us. The location and grounds were idyllic, on the water, at the end of Lovers Lane, (really) quiet and scenic. Our room was spacious, nicely appointed, not too colorful or cutesy, with decor that reflected the location and age of the building. We weren't the first person to use the room (haha), but it was clean and well appointed with a sofa, table and comfortable chairs. There were a few minor quirks, but nothing distracting. We had a big screened in veranda with nice roomy outdoor furniture. The bathroom was spacious with a cast iron tub. We had a king waterfront, deluxe I think. I could have stayed a week in that room and felt very much "at home". The reasons I don't add the extra star are as follows. The bed was a little too soft for my 215lb frame, the coffeemaker in the room should be a newer pod design, we ran out of hot water in the am after one shower and a half filled tub, (very frustrating after a cold fall night) and the breakfast basket was very underwhelming. I shared my thoughts with Wendy who was very receptive and genuinely sorry and surprised at the hot water issue and explained the limitations of breakfast with no onsite kitchen. Still, for over three hundred/nt and as the last thing you experience before your departure I think it could upgraded. One, a bigger carafe of coffee, some homemade muffin choices, ditch the styrofoam container and most of the packaged options and add a few more pieces of fresh fruit. Viola! Sorry for the long review but a little context helps I think. Again, magical overall and we look forward to returning.

Thank you again Wendy for a great weekend at the Sandaway. Room 108 was clean, comfortable, accommodating and had the most amazing view of the water. The Sandaway is a great place to decompress and relax. The town of Oxford is so quiet, you find yourself whispering walking through town! Assigned parking spot is right outside your door. Old style B&B charm with antiques in every inch. Great time. Highly recommended.
