"Wonderful location in a beautiful old building"
Beautiful old building with splendid and vast gardens to walk through. Rooms were pleasant but there was no air conditioning and the room was particularly warm. The bathroom was a little small, but we had chosen the most basic room. The staff were very helpful and the spa facilities are numerous. Secure parking is available, but ask at the reception for the code. Would happily stay again.

"Investment badly needed"
Thus could be a wonderful hotel if a major refurbishment took place. The building is lovely, we upgraded to a suite which was large overlooking the courtyard but had major cracks in the walls and the front door frame was partly missing. It was poorly decorated with awful bathroom and the plumbing was very noisy, the noise when flushing the toilet nearly blew our heads off! The bed was very uncomfortable with poor quality bedding. We can't comment in the food as we decided against eating there after reading the poor reviews. There was a very nice restaurant a short distance away. It would take a vast amount of cash to turn this hotel into what it could be, it is a beautiful building in a lovely location, such a shame.

"Very interesting unique historic building"
The first room we had was a standard room with a lovely view over parklands but unfortunately we experienced some noises from the toilet system I guess because it is a old building however we were moved to another room which was very satisfactory. It was disappointing not to have tea and coffee facilities and a hair dryer but I believe that is normal in France. Staff spoke English and were very helpful. Enjoyed the warm quiet swimming pool. Soreze is a very quaint sleepy village which is very interesting but you need to travel for restaurants etc.

Aanrader!

"Not good - no value for money"
01/16/16 Vasilis M London, United Kingdom
The location was in a small nice village and the hotel outside was ok. the communal spaces were fine but the rooms were in poor - very poor conditions. I felt more being in a hospital rather than a hotel. If the price of the room was at below 100 euro, it could have been acceptable (although still poor interior design), but at such a high price this is a disappointment.

The hotel is nice with rich history and the charm of the old days. Staffs were nice. The restaurant is very good too. However, the sauna concept is weird and we have to pay for swimming pool. The village surrounding and nearby attraction is good to spend 1 or 2 days.

Though a bit of a walk - parking was provided. Served Excellent food as part of wedding reception - everything from the cocktails to the dinner and dessert were excellent- the lamb was especially amazing. When we first arrived our wing lost electricity but it was fixed by the time we got back to room

"A combination of an old boarding school and a modern hotel"
09/18/15 JimEFC Edinburgh, United Kingdom
This is quite a special if rather unusual place - it is in part of what was a huge quasi-military academy in what was originally an abbey. Founded in the 18th century, it wasn't finally closed until 1991. The hotel occupies part of the original building, a museum another part and there is a training academy run by a pharmaceutical firm in another part. This partly explains why it is such a strange mixture. There are also two accommodation wings, with different star ratings, one 2-star and one 3, we stayed in the 3-star part, originally the male staff accommodation (the other was the female staff) I think the only difference is the room size. Our room was good size, with a bathroom that was adequate and no more with rather noisy pipes. The restaurant is very good although the menu is rather restricted if you are not having half-board (and then there is no choice). Breakfast excellent, staff excellent. Access by car is straightforward - they tell you where to go at reception on arrival, and it is easy enough to drive into the main courtyard before getting the route and the keycode for the private car park (which has its own entrance to the hotel). The grounds are vast and the village very quiet, our room looked over to a large tree and nothing else, at the night we heard the leaves rustling and owls hooting, nothing else at all. The building has been modernised to an extent, but the long echoing corridors and some rather lovely conference rooms are evocative of the former use of the building. It is strongly advisable to visit the museum next door, because then you can understand the place better. (It also has a superb exhibition of tapestry.) A very peaceful and evocative place to stay, that could never appear overcrowded because of its sheer size, and there remain elements of its institutional past as part of the modern hotel. There was a wedding party arriving as we left, a wonderful setting for that. There's not a great deal to do round about, apart from walking. The village has a small but very good glass museum, but that's about it. Highly recommended.

"Quite a building and quite a hotel"
07/08/15 JACACW Olonzac, France
I stayed here for a conference in the hotel, so maybe my view is different from the usual guests, but it's charm is its olde worlde atmosphere, in a modern setting. The park is wonderful, though I never got a lot of time to explore it, but my room, a traditional one (once a monk's cell) was rather small for a double. On my own it was fine, but two might have struggled. Almost impossible to sit upon the loo without banging one or other elbow, but otherwise bathroom (I had a shower only) was ok. I did think it expensive for what it was. The atmosphere of the buildings was excellent, the reception and other staff, on the whole, efficient and friendly (the exception being the breakfast and the staff - somewhat poor on both counts). I dined one night in the restaurant as a guest (and not as part of the conference), and except for the usual putting a single lady in the unlit corner (I did not stay there, I asked to be moved, and was) the food was tasty if somewhat small in size. The conference meals were a bit basic (if ok) but they were serving over 300 people at one time. So ambiance good, not quite up to its price per value, but still worth staying as the village itself is well worth a visit.

Being in Soreze abbey as a guest reminds you the history of their corridors. It's a fantastic way of combining calm and loneliness in a spot which was the education center of the ancien high class's children.

We stayed here for a friends wedding. Great room, great food, good service, lovely grounds, friendly staff, lovely village. Not much to do but relax, perfect. Soreze is idyllic and plenty to do if you drive around. Lovely lake nearby and a great car boot sale once a year that we went to. Huge. Great country fayre and we are fortunate enough to know some locals now.

"Character and charm"

This is a magical place. A historical building with a heart. Lovely and warm for such a large old and relatively unmodernised building, We go here every year in the winter and the children love the heated indoor pool. This place is charming and has been decorated with taste and a style which is sympathetic to the building. I totally recommend this place if you like characterful hotels.
