Hotel HD Palace - Taipei

This hotel was great! Very nice and helpful staff, clean, easy to find and a $3 cab ride, or 20 min walk to the convention center and the 101 building. There is a great food bar below the hotel, free internet wifi and a nice breakfast bar in the morning; I'll stay there again.

Overall, we had a great stay. We particularly enjoyed the breakfast buffet - which was a true buffet - not just toast and cereal - and a nice combo of local traditional food and "western" food. Hotel staff was great. We had two separate stays over two weeks - the second room (ninth floor) was clearly not as well kept as our first room (sixth floor), […] but the issues were minor. There was some evidence of water damage (ninth is under the roof) and we had ants in the room - but the staff took care of the ants quickly and without a fuss. I booked this hotel from Expedia based on review ratings, price and hotel posted photos. The price is good but the hotel photos are highly inaccurate, in reality the hotel is not like the photos. The lobby is on the second floor which is very inconvenient and the entire building only has one elevator. Staff speaks little English and the female employee(manager?) […] was rude. I was admiring the art display in the lobby, just looking, and she yelled across the hall and told me do not touch. I told her I knew not to touch because of the signage. The room furnishings are dated and the shower sprayed outside of the shower and made everything wet. The room has a mildew smell to it. Overall, I do not recommend the hotel and will not return. The staff at the front desk and breakfast buffet were excellent. Housekeeping was a llittle bit disappointing. I stayed there 4 days, one of the days she made up the room late in the afternoon (I wouldn't mention it, if this was my only concern), she did not replenish toilet paper and other toiletries, and I had change, NT dollars, (worth about $3+ […] US dollars), missing that I left on the desk with a lot of other personal stuff (maybe she thought it was a tip?). She did do an excellent job of keeping the room clean and orderly though. I was annoyed that I ran out of toilet paper in the middle of the night and I didn't like discovering my change missing from my personal belongings on the desk. Read more

We spent 5 nights at the HD Palace to visit our daughter. This hotel worked out very well. It's got a boutique feel to it, being relatively small compared to some of the mega-hotels. However, the staff was friendly, the service was good and the room was very comfortable. The hotel is about 2 years old, having been converted from a former office building. […] The rooms are modern and well maintained. The bathroom was quite large and functional. The room was nice-sized, with a comfortable king-sized bed. The room had a high-tech feel about it, with a key-holder that activated everything, night lights that were timed (apparently), and music that could be played in the bathroom. The TV was a good sized flat panel display and some English speaking channels were available for those of us with language challenges. The included buffet breakfast was ample and well prepared. My granddaughter and I stayed here on the 5th floor(twin bed room) for 9 nights in April 2013. We were very impressed with the hotel cleanliness, friendly and helpful staff and the breakfast buffet was very good. We had free Wi-Fi, and our room was quite spacious and quiet. Positive - We got a 40% discount at hotels.com, very convenient for my conference at world trade center, 20 min walk/ 5 min by taxi. This is a hidden gem. It is 100 meteres from the ShangriLa Far Eastern hotel, in an upscale area of Taipei with residential buildings and commercial buildings nearby. There is an upscale mall adjacent to the ShangriLa hotel. Taxis are cheap and abundant- $3 to Taipei central station and the same to Taipei 101 Tower. Carnegie's restaurant and sports […] bar is on the first floor of the HD Palace hotel and Starbucks and 7-11 are around the corner. The neighbourhood reminded me of parts of Paris, and has some Westerners living there. The hotel rooms and bathrooms are spacious, classy, and quiet. My room had a view of the Taipei 101 Tower in the distance. Breakfast offers a good selection of Western and Asian food. This hotel is a hiddden gem, and is highly recommended for the price. We are so disappointed with the room type given as it is quite misleading as I'm sure that I have booked a suite room with a promotion rate given that time when we purchased. The hotel was quite clean, staff were friendly and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast (decent spread) - patio seating area. However, the nearest MRT station 'liuzhangli' is a 20min walk from the hotel and the area is pretty quiet. Also, Taipei 101 is not that near (5-10min cab ride). The pictures and description of the hotel has put me into a critical position the first night when I arrived at the entrance of the hotel. My husband asked me if we could move to the other hotel. It was the first time my husband has responded to the hotel which I booked for our holidays. I did not mind taking cabs everywhere as it is far from everywhere, but I did mind I was surrounded by the old residential buildings when the hotel is only 10-storey high, I needed to keep all curtains closed. Hello everybody, I had a very nice stay at the HD Palace Hotel. Very comfortable and spacious(!) rooms, very good service, a big breakfast buffet every morning, everything nice and clean, and friendly assistance and help with everything on your mind. The staff was super friendly, and couldn't have helped more than they did. When I wanted to do some las minute shopping for my family, they called up a shop specilizing in whole sale retailing, and I got some great bargains. Good English was spoken by at least three in the staff that I met.
