"Overpriced for what you get"
The resort was convenient to the Wisconsin Dells Center but the resort itself was run down. We stayed here 5 years ago and the wear and tear of the hallways and room in that time were very evident. "not as good as it used to be"
I have been visiting Chula Vista with my family for several years, and I have to admit that I was a little disappointed this time. There was very poor crowd control in the waterpark - there were not a lot of inner tubes available for the slides, and children were running and cutting in front of other guests in order to grab the first available tubes. […] Further, my cousin was punched by another guest who was rough housing in the lazy river. Finally, our room was comfortable, but it was not supplied with clean wash cloths and there were some hairs on the pillows and beds. "Great water park, good staff, poor management."
Overall, we had a lot of fun at Chula Vista, not without a couple of complaints however. We arrived Thursday afternoon and were immediate checked in by very friendly staff at the Condo front desk. When we arrived at our room however, we realized we were the only room available on the entire floor as the rest of that floor was being painted. The smell […] of paint was very strong, not only in the hallway but also in our room. We called down to the front desk and were told that they would be happy to move us to a different room, but only the supervisor could do so and she was currently occupied but would call us back shortly. After 30 minutes and no call back, we called down again and were told that the supervisor was still busy, then asked to wait on hold, after another 15 minutes we decided to go and wait in person at the front desk. When we got to the front desk, there was no one in line and four employees behind the desk. We asked for the manager, who promptly identified herself and began changing our room. She apologized for things taking so long, but there had been an "important" guest at the counter when I called and she needed to help him. No upgrades or food comps were offered and when I asked about cancelling the manager said she would gladly do so but we would be charged a $50.00 fee, at which point we walked away to our new room. We were there attending a wedding. The check-in woman was very nice and helpful. When we checked in to our room, we were in a hurry to get to the wedding downstairs and discovered that the sliding glass door didn't lock. We called down to the office and they said they'd send a maintenance man up. We were very leery, figuring it would take forever and […] we'd miss our wedding. We were very surprised when he knocked on our door right away, fixed the lock within a minute, and we were on our way. The hotel feels a little dated, but the rooms were large, comfortable, and very clean. We had all we needed, and all we had to do was take the elevator down one floor to our festivities. My wife, toddler and myself only spent one night there(in the king towers) so it's hard to give a full review however ill do my best. It was hard to find the resort at night. We had a terrible service at a check-in counter. The lady there was very bad temper and unprofessional service for their own mistake. She double charged to my credit card and took more than 40 minutes to issue the refund credit for her mistake. "Poor staff training and parking at Chula Vista"
A very nice resort with both condos and hotel guest rooms set in a pretty rural setting. The first issue was a lack of parking and no assigned parking for guest or condo owners. As this resort also has a water park, parking is in very short supply. The wo-zah-wah fest downtown was the weekend we were there and Chula Vista also had a car show that made […] parking nearly impossible at times. The parking lot layout also contributes to this with areas for parking with only one way in or out forcing people to back out. This could be a first class resort but the poorly trained staff made our visit underwhelming. I do not blame the staff however because the issues were multiple and involved people our party dealt with and staff that we observed. When issues are systemic it is managements fault for failure to train staff and for under staffing in general. This started with the check in girl not knowing if the room we had was a balcony room as requested, and apparently there was no way for her to determine this or she was not trained well enough to know how to retrieve this information on her computer. After check in we could not find a luggage cart except some unusable oversize log style carts with no place for luggage just space for hangers they reminded me of something Fred Flintstone would use. We did see normal luggage carts being used by maintenance staff to haul pipes and supplies for a job they were doing. Another example of poor staff training. I won't return. Our famy stayed in the 2 bedroom condo. Two queen beds in one room and one king in other. Property is very large and very scenic on the Wisconsin river. My family and I stayed on the hotel side of Chula Vista, which has a lot of woodsy and outdoor elements and character. The resort is definitely off of the beaten path- it felt like we went on a nature-trip, especially when we left the resort to travel to Downtown Wisconsin Dells or other attractions. The roads were very dark and had lots of turns.... […] Pluses of our stay - very cordial and professional staff, clean room, quiet floor, nice balcony, great breakfast buffet, awesome water parks. Minuses - carpet needs to be shampooed, Friday night buffet didn't offer very many options outside of seafood. And the "All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry" at the golf clubhouse only offered cod, which was a huge disappointment for me as I was expecting a full spread of assorted fish and seafood. Overall we had a wonderful experience... My family and I are thinking of returning again next year with another family - hopefully by then, a few changes will have been made to address the minuses provided above. "overpriced with poor customer service"
My room smelled like new carpet which permeated everything and beds were hard. It was a 15 minute trip to downtown but close to 30 minutes to any attraction. So you were stuck at the resort. The only thing included in my very standard room was waterpark passes and a view of the parking lot. The doors are confusing with numbers on them which don't correlate […] to where you are. Calling the frontdesk for help was a joke. They had one response, I'm sorry but no I can't help you. We couldn't even RENT a volley ball to play on the court. Seriously? The food avilable is the quality of a denny's. The vending machines were unplugged for most of our stay and the ice machine was broken. Hotel was in overall good condition. Long walk to waterparks and you have go up flights of stairs to get to them. The set-up and slides of the inside and outside waterparks were cool, but the chlorine fumes were overwhelming at times. Our eyes were burning and it made some of us cough. The majority of the staff was NOT friendly, but satisfied our needs. […] For the most part, we felt like they were doing us a favor. Beds and pillows were uncomfortable and we had to put the sofa bed mattress on the floor to make it sleepable. Buffet not worth the $$$$. Couldn't believe they charged a 18% service charge for getting us milk. It's a buffet people. :/. Setting proper expectations when checking in. We were told it would take approximately 30 minutes (or less) for our room; we ended up waiting 1 hour. The front desk also mentioned we would receive a text when the room was ready/available. We never received the text. The beds were a little uncomfortable; woke up with back/neck stiffness. We had an awesome stay. We were there on a Thursday night. We enjoyed the water park that night and in the morning. It was a little busy in the evening, but only about a 10 min wait for the bigger slides. No waiting at all in the morning until it got busy around noon. Our 5 year old had a blast! He can't swim yet, which was a big concern, but he was […] able to go on all but a few slides. Even those he could have done with his life vest, but he was nervous. Life guards were stationed all around the pools/deeper water areas ( nothing over 4 ft.). In the evening when it was busy there were no life vests for our son, but there were pleanty in the morning. We brought our own so we were ready for that though. The room was awesome! Surprised to have not only the 2 beds we booked, but a couch and coffee table, small table, fridge, microwave and an extras small sink by them. Rooms were cozy and clean. Had an outside balcony with chairs. Don't forget the underground walkway to the waterpark. It had dining, stores, spa, a huge arcade, a 4d theater. There is also a nice walkway out back along the river with another wave pool and a cantina. There was much more that we didn't even see! Overall it was excellent. "Wisconsin Dells Chula Vista Resort"
The Resort is nice overall, but depending on the room you get, they need to really clean better, we just got a regular room in the hotel with 2 queen beds and a sofa sleeper. The ceiling fan was so dirty, we would not dare turn it on, the walls needed to be wiped down, and better vacuuming recommended to the cleaning staff! The staff could not handle […] the volume of people staying there either! We asked for some towels and the response was " it is on a first come, first serve basis!" WHAT??? Just deliver them to the room and deal with it! I expected better service, even from their bars and eating establishments. They were extremely annoyed if you asked for a refill of a drink! This resort appears to be on the decline. It boasts of many amenities, but all are not being kept up. Cleanliness is lacking; maintenance shows that things are not being kept up.
