This hotel was the final stop on our one-month trek thru Australia and New Zealand. It was a fine hotel with friendly people (none of whom were New Zealanders) and clean comfortable rooms. The resturant in the hotel served the best meal we had in NZ. The only negative was the location. It was a 10-15 minute walk to the main shopping and entertainment areas and inconvenient to the various bus routes. Being situated atop one of Auckland's many hills, it was a tough walk up hill at the end of the day.

Very good, nice, clean room. Surroundings beautiful. Very friendly staff at check out. I informed the man at my check out about being upset with the... reception lady at check in. She was very difficult to understand and was not interested in any dialogue about facilities, restaurant or activities around the hotel. As I stayed at Waipuna a few times before, I felt the service at reception has changed. I have missed the familiar atmosphere from the past, where there is some inter-personal above communication on top of the 'rational' check in . The staff at check-in and check-out were pleasant. The room was lovely and we enjoyed a night-cap at the Wellington Bar. Upon checking out we decided to have breakfast and were quoted a price it was almost 10AM. The buffet was quite average and I would not recommend it. Upon leaving to pay the bill I was told the meal was a third highter for the two […] of us and questioned why I was quoted a much lower per person cost? They did agree that the previous cashier because of the lateness of the buffet would have made that offer. I had planned a restful Saturday afternoon watching tennis on TV before going to an evening function - the TV/SKY was malfunctioning and I saw nothing - despite a complaint, no offer of a discount was provided. Disappointing from hotel I have stayed at before and found very good.

24 hour reception is important to me. Rooms are clean, comfortable and relatively spacious. It might look a little old-fashioned but is one of the homiest places I have found in Aust and NZ.
