"Great for families or multiple couples"
The Preserve at Los Altos is in a terrific location in Quepos in the heart of the Manuel Antonio area; The units are very large with 2-3 bedrooms plus a master bedroom. The kitchen is a full kitchen with large refrigerator, oven., cooktop and vent plus the usual microwave, toaster coffee maker etc. One could explore the area with a family and each member […] have privacy; there are terrific restaurants very close by and the Manuel Antonio Park is a very short drive away. Most tour companies will pick you up at this hotel/condo...The biggest issue here is that while the living room has an outstanding view, the Master bedroom is just the opposite---the windows all face a wall due to how the design of the building wraps around....it is more than a little depressing!! Having said that--get the heck out of bed and enjoy one of the most incredible countries on earth! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Spacious, But Several Missing Things"
It is as advertised - a huge multi room beautifully decorated apartment. We had 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 teenagers (ages 15-18) and we usually get two hotel rooms so I was very pleased to have us all under one roof. So that's the good news. BUT.....many annoying things that had they been in place would bring rating from three to five. First - wifi is […] free - but doesn't reach to all the rooms because the place is so huge. But if you have guests in the generous private room in the back, they won't have in room wifi. Second - no laundry; wasn't promised - but this is at the end of our trip and we really could have used a washer/dryer to take care of the many wet items we had. They do have laundry hook ups which is what makes this frustrating that they don't provide a washer/dryer. Third -- no dishwasher or paper towels or napkins - imagine using the beautiful and spacious kitchen for 6 people and trying to clean up - not so easy and there were ants that came if dishes left out so we had to hand clean things in the sink. Again - dishwasher hooks up were there - but no dishwasher. Fourth - no TVs in any rooms except main living room. at least have a TV in the master bedroom. I know this sounds like I'm whining...but we are paying $800 per night - so you do have a certain expectation for amenities. Grounds are nice, ocean view is so so -- it's at an angle so you really don't see it from most of the room unless you are right on the porch or at the far end of the room. "Great hotel and incredibly spacious 3 bedroom!"
Hotel has excellent services, rooms with 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, island with barstools, table seats 6, balcony and full kitchen are stunning. The staff, pool, restaurant are all very nice. Zero need for a car - easy taxis, bus and staff coordinated for any activities and were very accommodating to schedule even on late notice.Genuine Expedia guest review

Great location / restaurant / suites and extremely spacious. Modern simple.... Could use a little more extras like robes slippers to make it more cozy. A bartender at the pool bar would've been nice to have. Overall very happy with our stay.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Awesome place to stay in Manuel Antonio"
The room was huge and decorated very well in contemporary style. Every room had spectacular views. Loved the stay. The staff was good but not great. The private beach was decent but not all that great. Breakfast was out of this world. The gardens were kept very well. The pool was unbelievable with a killer views of pacific. There were plenty of great […] restaurants to eat within walking distance. Overall loved the stay and would definitely recommend this hotel for families and larger groups. "Great hotel for a large family"
This hotel suite is the largest we've ever stayed. It has 3 large bedrooms and a huge kitchen-dinning and living room. The decorations are modern, the beds are comfortable, the beds are comfortable. The view and enviroment are beautiful. The only complain I may have is that there is only 1 TV in the living room. Although there are TV hook-ups in other […] bedrooms, but no TV. That leaves people fighiting for the remote-control of that only TV Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"nicest hotel we stayed at in Costa Rica"
Room is HUGE and we loved the layout. Free breakfast is standard fare. Private beach was cool, but we enjoyed the main beach to the south. Only complaint is the WiFi sucks since you have to login every time you unlock your device or open your laptop. At least it was fast and free. Of the five luxury hotels we stayed at, this was the best.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Response by The Preserve at Los Altos Hello Matthew, thank you for your review. We can't express enough how thrilled we are to hear that Los Altos was the nicest hotel you stayed at in Costa Rica. Regarding the WIFI, we will address the issue and find a better solution. At least when you are connected, as you mentioned as well, the WIFI is fast. We look forward to hosting you again on your next trip out here!
"Could be great- but it's not quite there."
Rooms, actually a condo, are large and well appointed. The staff however, was only minimally helpful- did not go out of their way at all to eg look up times and prices for excursions, or offer restaurant suggestions, etc. Appeared rather bored, not what one would expect at this type and price hotel. Other people suggested concierge at a nearby hotel […] who was wonderful and extremely helpful. Also, we chose an "ocean view" room- it actually looked out on a telephone pole and parking lot, with a Distant view of the ocean. They did change our room at our request. Finally, the hotel beach had chairs strewn around, not kept up at all, though it could have been a lovely place. Difficult to walk to- transportation provided, but when we requested a ride to another nearby spot this was not possible- in spite of staff/van not busy doing anything else. Much more friendly help would be needed to make this a really great place. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Preserve at Los Altos Dear Susan. Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay with us. I have to be honest, but it is a surprise to read your comments about our staff, as they always try to assist and help our guests with everything they need. From transportation, pre-arrival groceries to making activity reservations and bringing the guests to our exclusive beach during the day. We do not provide the service to bring the guests to nearby spots yet, but we are thinking about it and maybe in the near future we will offer it. We do hope to have the pleasure of your stay again, in order for you to experience a great service and in the end to go back home with wonderful memories.

"not a 4.5 star hotel"
Based on the star rating we expected a higher level of service. The staff were kind and helpful and we really liked them. However, they didn't seem very experienced and therefore maybe did not understand how to give the kind of service befitting a 4.5 star hotel. I emailed them before coming to arrange an airport pick up for us. No one ever responded. […] I partly booked this particular place because it said it had a spa but the spa was closed for remodeling. All of the places that I have stayed in in Costa Rica were environmentally aware and striving toward some sort of sustainability. I saw no evidence of that here. . The Kleenex and toilet tissue were scented which was odd. It was a very lovely property. We were disappointed to see that they have cut down so many of the trees on their property. The beach was small and you could maybe swim there if you had some sort of aqua shoes because it's very rocky. It is absolutely worth the money to go to Manuel Antonio's beaches in the park. Playa Espadilla SUR was the best beach we've ever seen. Back to the hotel, the food in the restaurant was pretty good. The look the of hotel, restaurant and pool was great. It looked 5 star but seemed 3 star. The beds were so hard and cheap that I couldn't believe it. Also the pillows were very cheap foam ones but they were actually pretty comfortable. The sheets were indeed great but what sense does it make to put nice sheets over a cheap mattress?? Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Beautiful huge well equipped suites!"
Based on the suite alone I would have given this hotel a 5 rating - they are very big and beautiful - no complaints there! My main problem was with the pricing and I feel both Expedia and Los Altos are to blame. I booked a suite online for what I thought was our family of four. When I arrived I was told I had to pay an extra $75 per teenager per night […] - as my reservation was only for 2 adults. This was never clear to me and when I looked back at both websites, there was all kinds of conflicting information. In some places they say the charge is $60 per extra adult and $40 per extra child. In others they say that all guests are considered adults regardless of age. In yet another area it says "these extra charges do not apply during peak season", which is when we were there, and yet they insisted we had to pay for them. The bottom line is we ended up paying over $500 extra for a 3 night stay - so beware of hidden charges/costs. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We had a really bad experience at Los Altos. It was one inconvenient after the other: a) We arrived at 5pm and the room was not ready/clean for the check in (which should be available at 3pm), I had to complain a lot to get the room ready and cleaned at 7pm. b) At the check in the front desk people insisted that my stay was not previously paid, only […] after some arguments they recognized it was already paid. c) All beds in the room are noisy, really noisy, and not comfortable. d) Poor breakfast. e) Asked for towels at pool three times and finally I gave up. In summary, although it is a very beautiful place, the poor service and the noisy and uncomfortable beds made our weekend unpleasant. Won´t stay here again!

"huge apartment with hotel services and a great staff"
03/31/15 love2travel2989 Los Angeles, California
My family and I stayed for 3 nights at the hotel. It was a huge 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom apartment with hotel amenities (pool, restaurant, concierge) for $525/night - a great price considering the prices of hotel rooms in the area. The apt was comfy but it lacked good beds and bedding. Los Altos lacks the luxurious aspect of a hotel (i.e., robes, towels, nice bedding/pillows), but as a family traveling it was nice to have a huge place with a big living room to hang out in. We very much appreciated the help of the front desk in reserving activities like park tours and zip lining and recommending and making reservations for dinners.
"Nice with flaws. Currently construction going on next door, you will be up at 6 am."
03/27/15 Jim C Temple Terrace
We were a 3 generation family of six with the penthouse 28B. There is construction going on immediately behind the property, commencing at 6 am every morning. The hotel should post this on their website - I suggested this to the manager Own and he refused. He denied that the noise is a problem - unbelievable. Unless you get up early, I would not stay in this property until at least well into the summer of 2015. The construction is currently only at a shell stage. It sounds like heavy construction right in your room. Some of the construction of Los Altos itself is very nice, but on other things they cheaped out - such as using single pane windows - which Owen denied. I am a home builder, I know. He suggested we had left one of the windows open. Wow. The unit was huge. They were built as condos and did not sell in the bust, so were turned into a hotel. You can tell. They have only furnished the units sparsely. The huge patios only have two chairs - for a four bedroom unit. The master is huge, with room for a second living area - left completely unfurnished. The decor is spartan. There is only one tv for a four bedroom condo. Virtually every channel is in Spanish, though every single guest we saw was American. The appliances are what you would find in an apartment, not upscale. No washer, dryer, ironing board or iron. The elevators open into other peoples units on the way down, unfailingly a surprise for everyone the first time. The AC was making loud noises when we checked in, to their credit they got it fixed. Housekeeping knocked our things on the floor and did not bother to pick them up. The staff was nice but not solicitous like you would find at a hotel charging these rates. The breakfast buffet was poor. The beach is literally non-existent at high tide, and is rocky and not a really good swimming beach at any time. No one cleans the outdoor tables by the pool, they are disgusting with dirt and animal droppings. The units are large, clean and modern. There are several good restaurants within walking distance, though the driveway is very steep, which was a problem for the older folks with us. Very disappointing for the rates charged. With the construction going on, unacceptable. There are better options. I fully expect the manager to respond to this post denying everything, as he did in his email response to me.
"Luxury time share environment "
03/26/15 Wablec Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Tremendous space in each apartment to spread out if traveling with a large family or group of friends. The rooms are clean, modern and offer all the luxury of a 5-star. The staff was friendly, but quiet so we did not use the concierge services once onsite. Julien online was very helpful in planning before we arrived. The pool is bath water warm and provides a gorgeous view of the sunset every evening. Plus 2 for 1 drinks! It's particularly nice that breakfast is included and ice cream and lunch spots are within walking distance. The beach access is a serious negative - rough road that requires the hotel truck to take you down. And, it's exceptionally rocky. We opted for the pool and used Manuel Antonio beach after activities in the area.
"Big but extremely dressed down"
03/26/15 OurCoolFamilyofSix Amsterdam, The Netherlands
We had a very large panoramic suite on then 7th level of the building. The space was huge but th inventory of the apartment very basic. We were with six people and there were exactly 6 plates, no bowls to eat some yoghurt, no good knives to cut your fruits. No tv in the bedrooms, no dishwashing machine anymorein the kitchen, no washing machine in the washing area. The whole apartment was actually just stripped, and for the amount 750 US dollars a night that is a real shame!! There were not even complimentary bottles of water in the fridge. The breakfast (included) was one of the worst I had in a long time. Stale bread, frozen orange juice, bad coffee. Would certainly not recommend to stay here. The only good thing about the hotel was the staff, extremely friendly. And the space of the apartment but for this kind of money you can also rent an entire house with private pool.
"You Won't Want for Space!"
03/20/15 JeffreyAToronto Toronto, Canada
We (family of four) spent four nights at Los Altos and it was pure bliss. When the elevator opens up and you find yourself in a huge suite, with multiple large balconies, gorgeous bathrooms and other creature comforts, there is not much else that you can say but "Wow!" The breakfasts were great, particularly on the first day when we could order from the menu as the hotel was not full enough to warrant a buffet. Beautiful pool; actually a bit magical, as pink flowers fall gently down from an adjacent towering tower. We were on the fifth floor close to the trees, and the monkeys would come play for about 5 minutes around 6 to 6:30 every morning. Really a wonderful place. Also a shout out to Caesar and Jonathan at the front desk. Really warm and helpful guys.
"THE BEST accommodations in Manuel Antonio! Beautiful views, friendly staff, and the most spacious condo."
03/20/15 caitfrawley Lincoln
My stay at Los altos was nothing short of extraordinary. It is in a prime location, walking distance to the beach, restaurants, a grocery store, and shops. When my friends and I walked into our condo we could not believe how beautiful and spacious it was. Every room had a balcony. There were expansive views of the ocean and gorgeous infinity pool below. A fully stocked kitchen and spa like bathrooms. The first thing we did upon arrival was head to the pool and again, we were blown away. The view was incredible, and being at the pool felt like your were tucked away in your own little corner of Costa Rica as all you could see around you were the views of the Pacific and a beautiful forest. At the pool I had THE BEST piña coladas and over the course of my stay tried many delicious items off the menu as well. When we went down for the complementary breakfast the following morning I was expecting the typical hotel breakfast of sad looking fruit and toast but boy was I wrong. It was amazing, fresh fruit, waffles, pancakes, eggs Benedict, and French toast were among the choices. The hotel has its own beautiful secluded beach with transportation provided and beach chairs and drinks offered on the beach, kayaking, a spa, and the most helpful staff to make arrangements for excursions. Any activity you wanted they would set it up with transportation and have a boxed breakfast ready to go if needed. After spending a few days watching the sunset at different beaches we concluded that the best spot in town to watch it was at the pool at Los Altos with a piña colada in hand. Some days even a monkey or two would come down to check out the sunset. My friends and I were looking for a mixture of relaxation and adventure on our trip and could now have stayed at a better place. I am going to tell all of my friends and family to stay at Los Altos!
"Luxury in paradise"
03/18/15 pauldalecr Province of Alajuela, Costa Rica
I've stayed at Los Altos 3 times. The rooms at Los Altos are beautiful, spacious, and really built for a celebratory sort of visit with a family or several couples. In most of the rooms you've got a big balcony, a great kitchen, spacious living room a master bedroom, a double, and two singles. The showers are always a highlight for me as they are unusually high quality for Costa Rica. Beautiful with high pressure hot/cold water. The higher rooms (say floor 4 and up) have gorgeous views. The penthouse is even bigger and breathtaking.
"Unexpected and understated luxury and privacy"
Loved the uncrowded privacy of this luxurious condo resort. Front desk staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. Ask Dennis to take you to Manuel Antonio...his is definitely one of the lead guides in the park! Restaurant and infinity pool vista overlooking a private beach took my breath away....situated in a wildlife sanctuary with sloths hanging out in the trees above. The condo is HUGE and fully equipped with a kitchen and private balcony. Seemed to be a relatively well kept secret in a lovely Pacific beach haven. Was traveling with friends, but would love to return with hubby and kids!
"HUGE condo - perfect location"
03/15/15 Patty G Cary, North Carolina
Would return again. A huge space! We stayed on 5th floor and the higher you go, the better the view BUT you can simply walk to pool or restaurant to get a fantastic sunset. Food was great - esp breakfast. Super convenient to walk to a diff place for lunch or dinner each day.
"Big and beautiful!"
03/07/15 Jesse1551 Nr London
Our apartment was huge! But very nice indeed and a great place to relax. The front desk staff were really friendly and helpful, as were the restaurant staff. The beach was absolutely lovely and, surprisingly, totally deserted when we went. There is a shuttle service to the beach – use it. We decided to try the walk and it was a bit much. I’d also recommend the guided morning rainforest walk in Manuel Antonio National Park as there is a lot of wildlife to see! A really great place.
