Parkside Bed and Breakfast - Brooklyn

Though housed in a lovely building, the interior above ground-level is not all that well-kept. Also, this was not precisely a B&B. The owner met me when I arrived, gave me the keys, and left. There was no one on-site during my weekend stay. No A/C and a weak ceiling fan meant it was quite uncomfortable at night. Though my bedroom was large, the bathroom […] was down the hall and quite run-down. Another guest arrived at roughly 3 in the morning the second night of my stay, and made an enormous amount of noise; because there was no one on-site to complain to, I had to troop upstairs myself to deal with it. If you really want to get a sense of an authentic New York City neighborhood, Parkside Bed and Breakfast is the place. Its in a lovely brownstone and you feel like you are staying in someone's home (you are)!. Pluses: Really comfy bed, nice owner, great neighborhood, close to public transportation, excellent food nearby, across the street from Prospect […] park. Minuses: Not accessible to taxis, no daily change of towels or housekeeping service, tv reception is poor. Overall, a lovely stay. Read more

Upon arrival, I asked the expected time for breakfast. I was told they did not make breakfast. Also, was offered to use the kitchen to make it myself. So, its a Bed and Make Your Own Breakfast.

This home is beautiful with lovely details inside and out. The proprietor is friendly and informative and made us feel welcome. The front and back gardens are delightful. Our room was very clean , comfortable, and nicely appointed. We were given full access to a charming kitchen on our floor. I especially liked that. Home away from home! Beautiful Prospect […] Park is just across the street and public transportation (train station) is a short walk down the block and around the corner. You'll find some very good restaurants and a great cafe (go on, get the almond pastry) just past the train station. Several grocers are nearby, also. Next time we're in Brooklyn, we hope to stay at the Parkside B&B. Read more

My daughter and I were thrilled with the location, convenient to the Metro and across the street from Prospect Park. Our B&B host was wonderful, we felt we were at home away from home. The interior of the home was artfully and tastefully decorated and the woodwork was breath taking. We enjoyed our stay tremendously.

The owner of the B&B made us feel welcome and comfortable. His building on Prospect Park is simply beautiful and the view can't be beat. It's a nice getaway in a big city and the most relaxing stay I've ever had.

En face de Prospect Park, magnifique espace vert de Brooklyn, ce gîte à prix raisonnable offrant une très grande chambre avec salle de bains privée et cuisinette, gagnerait toutefois à être mieux entretenu. Réfrigérateur sale, poussière sous le lit, évier bouché... bref, la propreté générale des lieux laisse à désirer. De plus, l'endroit est extrêmement […] bruyant: trafic lourd et incessant du côté de la chambre et métro passant à toutes les minutes côté cuisine. C'était la canicule: impossible de bien fermer les fenêtres pour partir la climatisation, qui de toute manière fonctionnait mal. Le propriétaire nous a accueilli brièvement la première journée, puis est disparu pour le reste de notre séjour de 4 nuits. Le petit-déjeuner promis ne consistait en fait que de muffins anglais industriels, de quelques pommes et de mauvais café. Le propriétaire m'a même signalé qu'il n'y avait pas de lait et que je devrais en acheter à l'épicerie du coin. Nous avons donc fait des provisions pour pouvoir partir la journée du bon pied. Deux stations de métro se trouvent à quelques minutes de marche nous permettant d'arriver à Manhattan en moins d'une demi-heure. Il y a beaucoup à voir à Brooklyn, mais mis à part le parc (jardin botanique, zoo, etc.), les environs immédiats du gîte offrent peu d'attraits. Bref, ce gîte a du potentiel: la maison est tout de même magnifique, avec beaucoup de cachet. Il faudrait seulement mettre de l'énergie à l'amélioration de l'accueil et des lieux. Read more
