Kona Islander Inn Hotel - Hawaii (The Big Island)

This hotel is nothing fancy but it is very comfortable. Our room was on the street side overlooking the pool. The hotel is located at a busy intersection on one side (the pool side) and the waterfront is on the other side, across the street. It is located at the very end of the long stretch of tourist shops, hotels and restaurants and I liked being away from the busiest action. About a block from a quiet, little sandy beach with snorkeling, calm swimming and board/kayak rentals. Also walking distance from fast food, a big box store, and a good brewery/restaurant. I can think of only a couple of "cons"- there were teeny tiny ants in our bathroom so we couldn't leave anything setting out and the fact that nothing in the area is open late. We arrived at night and had difficulty finding a place to eat nearby. Some of my family members stayed at a more expensive hotel up the street but I would stay at this hotel again. Perfectly comfortable for those that do not intend to spend much time in the room anyway.

Excellent place. Easy to get to off of Hawaii 11. Recommend highly for picturesque views. Family friendly. Good bars with decent prices. We had an ocean view that was spectacular! Great workout facility. Only drawback was the distance from shopping and restaurants in the city.

This is a beautiful destination resort - however, there were three issues for us: the resort is so large that it takes a long time to get back an forth to your room, it is very windy on this part of the island - made it not as conducive to sitting out or swimming - and it is almost an hour's drive away from the downtown Kona area.
