What a gem . From the warm and friendly owners and staff to the beautiful evening meal. The best mushroom soup (probably) is to be had here. Room was very pretty with comfortable bed. This is the place to stay in this area , don't miss it.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Very pleasant stay"
I stayed here recently on business. I don't usually review hotels but I was very impressed by the welcoming staff who went out of their way to make my short stay very pleasant. The hotel itself is a bit dated but I think it adds to it's character. Beds are very comfortable and the breakfast was delicious- particularly the coffee. Overall I had a lovely […] nights sleep and I will be staying here again if there are vacancies! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Our stay at the Coul House was excellent from the welcome when we arrived, through some good meals to our departure. The hotel is a grand stately home but very casual and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble for the family owners and staff and it is encouraging to see that staff have been there for some time. The location is excellent for sightseeing […] and mountain biking and there is indoor storage for bikes. The gardens and grounds were superb and it's clear that a lot of work has been done to make them appeal to a wide range of guests. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overnight at Coul House Contin"
Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The owners have embarked on a labour of love in renovating and restoring this beautiful old country house and are bringing it into 21st century. Staff are extremely polite but not over-friendly and are only surpassed by the quality of food provided at excellent prices.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"A beautiful escape in the country"
This is a long-term project by the owners, who have spent years bringing the hotel back from what sounded like a ruin ( they usefully give you annual "progress reports" from the start in you room index, which makes fascinating reading). in my opinion, they are succeeding magnificently! The service is efficient and friendly, the food is varied, delicious […] and well-presented, and the rooms are immaculately maintained. The bar/lounge area (which opens onto the large gardens) stocks a wide variety of local beers and spirits, supporting local businesses, and is a good place to relax before going in to dinner. There is a 9- hole putting range on the front "lawn", which is free for guests" but if you don't want such strenuous activity, a walk around the grounds is interesting in itself, with extensive, well-maintained gardens including a rane of exotic mature trees, such as giant sequoias and Douglas firs (helpfully labelled)! The hotel has magnificent views over the mountains and if you have more time, there are many walking trails which may be accessed from the hoel Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Très bon accueil, très beau cadre, très bon repas. La chambre était trop petite. Mais les hotes étaient très aimables et serviables. Le petit déjeuner excellent et copieux. Le pain fait maison comme tout d'ailleurs. Excellent souvenir. A recommander !Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Perfect Highland HQ"
07/22/14 Robert B El Paso, Texas
We just finished a week of touring the Scot Highlands, and Coul House proved to be the perfect headquarters for our adventures. The house itself has been lovingly restored, the staff friendly and efficient, and the Owners (Stuart and Susannah) welcoming and engaging. Everyone genuinely catered to our needs and desires, customizing meals, assisting with travel recommendations, and responding to anything else that we asked for. After a tiring day of touring, the return to bucolic Coul House proved the perfect antidote with comfortable furnishings, refreshing drinks at the ready, and really good food from the kitchen. I am a big guy, so the only complaint is the coziness of our somewhat small queen bed. Highly recommended.
"Excellent Value and Wonderful Service"

My husband and I just spend a wonderful romantic break at Coul House. We had a large room overlooking the mountains; the bed was huge, the storage space good and everything was clean. The bathroom was more than adequate and suitably clean. The food in the restaurant was great - not a huge choice but then there wouldn't be would there, considering everything was home cooked! it was well prepared, tasty and very well priced, as were the drinks. The grounds outside are fantastic and the views were great. What makes this hotel really stand out though is the brilliant and friendly service by all the staff and the owners. A first class experience all round and we shall be returning again and heartily recommend this hotel to others.
"My favourite place to stay in the highlands"
07/20/14 MazzaITFC Ipswich, England.
We stayed here five years ago and now wish we hadn't left it so long to return. All of the staff are outstanding, along with the food which is served in a beautiful dining room overlooking the gardens. Our spacious room overlooked the small pitch and put golf course and lawn, in the distance the mountains. Make sure you take time to walk around the gardens, go through the 'Fairy trail', even if you haven't any children with you!
"Delicious lunch delightful location!"
07/18/14 cftjw Midlands, England
We found this lovely hotel using my TA app. We followed a car down the drive and this turned out to be the owner Stuart, who was a charming host. As the weather was gorgeous he suggested we sat on the terrace to admire the views - and what views they were. The service was exemplary - genuine interest, knowledge, humour and more. The menu was varied. Our lunch arrived after a perfect length of time, and the presentation was wonderful. We all agreed absolutely delicious. The was a photographer there taking photos for their website, but this did not impact on our enjoyment. We hoped to call back here on our way to Inverness airport, but unfortunately time was against us. Please visit this establishment - you won't be disappointed.
"A good stop on the way to the NW Highlands"
07/12/14 John R Aberdeen, United Kingdom
This is a good place to stop on the way to the NW Highlands and is in a pleasant semi-rural setting with some short walks in the grounds. Our newly renovated room was comfortable and spacious. The dinner menu had some novel and interesting items on it. My crab cake with celery remoulade was excellent, however the chicken with lentils and Coupe Liegeois were less to my taste. The dining room is large and pleasant, however the modern pictures seem out of place in the period setting. Service was good. The price for B&B is on the high side, for dinner reasonably priced for the quality of food on offer.
"Breath of fresh air"

Just what we needed after city jumping for a couple of weeks. Beautiful surroundings, attentive staff, great food. Just outside of Inverness but definitely worth the extra 10 minutes drive. Take a mini break here, you won't regret it.
"Lovely country house hotel"
07/09/14 Dawn C Falkirk,Scotland
The hotel and setting are lovely - fairy and scary trails through the woods made me wish my girls were younger! The room was comfortable though the newly-refurbished bathroom was a bit fantoosh! The menu was disappointing after such rave reviews and people around us complimenting it. It didn't change daily so we opted for B&B on our second night. There were a few specials but they were not that appealing - I had fish pie which was fairly tasteless ( mild cheddar used?) and the potatoes and vegetables were what you would get for a pub lunch. I am not fussy and was letting my hair down but the desserts did not tempt me at all - too many cake-like options. The staff were all friendly and efficient so perhaps it is just what food you like. Most other guests were foreign and maybe that is the market their menus are aimed at.
"A hidden gem"
07/09/14 AJ&ERtravel Vancouver Island, Canada
We had rented a house in Contin and the hotel was but a short walk through the woods. We went there, ten of us, for lunch. As it happened there was a wedding celebration going on so that added to the experience. The service was friendly and attentive, the food quite acceptable. The house and grounds are quite lovely. I think most of us made it easy on the busy staff by ordering the soup and sandwich option with a few pints and glasses of wine thrown in. After all ,we were walking. it was a very pleasant lunch in equally pleasant surroundings..
"Highland hospitality at its best."
07/04/14 jrwinoz Melbourne
If you want the best, not mediocrity, stay at Coul House. The owners are "on the desk" and in the foyer to look after your needs and answer queries, and their staff are a credit to them. Pre dinner drinks, and the wonderful views from the dining room and imaginitive menu are "the full highland experience". As a Scot based overseas I just wish it was easier to find places like this (but there might not be too many). I was out practising my "short game" on their pitch and putt course on the front lawn early one morning, before breakfast, when the family dog walkers got a surprise as they rounded the rhodondendron bushes ... and "a near miss". We all had a good chuckle, once the dogs had calmed down. So, if this place is within your budget head for Contin. We are looking forward to our return trip. Thanks to Stuart and Susannah

This is a great place to stop off at, find it on the map, make a detour if necessary, it will be worth it. Great setting, wonderful gardens, marvellous views but the piece d'resistance is the food. Bags of imagination on the menu which the chef and his team really do deliver. The staff are a credit to the hotel, discreet and efficient. As I say if you're even remotely near, make the detour and you'll be rewarded, and refreshed.
