Hotel was expensive for what you get with respect to USA standards, but great location and clean enough. Be ware it's a shared bathroom, though that was clean, and I never had to wait for a shower or toilet... I would stay there again.

The reception staff was pleasant and helpful, but the accomodations were not at the same level. The rooms and beds were small, the furniture in the room was scratched up and showed signs of water damage, the communal hall bathroom was not well kept (i.e. after the cleaning crew came through, the soap dispensers were not refilled), and someone was smoking […] on the hall and it permeated throughout the whole floor. I guess for being in the great, central location that it was, we got a pretty good deal. There are a ton of restaurants on the side street (though not really a kid-friendly street at night). If you don't mind a small room, then this hotel can work. The continental breakfast is a plus.

Hotel is in CBD (downtown) and you can easily walk down to most of the main city attractions. And that's the real appeal of this hotel. Otherwise it's an average hotel. Staff is very helpful and you get breakfast in the morning :)

It is located at the southeast end of Hyde Park which is a 1 mile walk through continuous greenspace (including the free botanical gardens) to the Opera House and Circular Quay. The Metro line is at the end of the block of Hyde Park on the Southwest corner and only took about 5 mintes to get […] to the hotel. I was suprised at the single bed (twin) but it actually worked well for me since I was traveling solo. I believe the double bed was not that more in cost, but I didn't notice when I made the reservation. I put the overall rating as a 4 simply because the price seems a bit high for the size of room being a "shared bathroom" situation. I'm not from Australia, much less Sydney, so maybe this is the norm. Also there were some "advertizing" issues. 1) There was advertizing that a round-trip shuttle was provided by the hotel for a fee. NO. The same shuttle […] is available to everyone from the airport for only a $2 difference. So it's not a hotel shuttle which would save time, but an airport shuttle service which travels a circuit of stops and hotels. 2) Communication as to what's included for breakfast was not quite what I expected, but it was still and acceptable breakfast. I was a little nervous about using this hotel b/c I did everything online and b/c I was a female traveling solo - I didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival, my worries were quickly put to rest! The hotel is ideally located to everything I wanted to see, the rooms were clean and the whole facility is very well maintained. The desk staff were awesome […] - very friendly and helpful and had answers to all of my questions. I had a room with a (quite comfy) double bed and used the shared facilities. I wasn't impressed with the shared bathroom (think: girls locker room), but it seemed pretty clean, just out-dated. I don't think there were many other girls using the bathroom b/c I had it to myself quite a lot which was nice. The internet was useful (although maybe a bit pricey - but it was convenient) and the hotel to airport service was fabulous and saved me money and the stress of using a cab or the subway. The breakfast was basic (with an upgrade available for a small fee) but filling. I plan on absolutely returning to this hotel in the future (although maybe I would get an en suite room so I didn't have to use the shared bathroom). Great choice for a budget stay. The front desk staff were a little slow to get to me when I checked in but very friendly, the room and bathroom was clean and comfortable and they had a nice cafeteria in the lobby. But no free wi-fi is a minus.

Sydney is clearly an expensive city these days. You don't get a whole lot for the money at the Y. The hotel is mostly geared to budget travel and student groups. Location is good, close to train station and everything is walkable. Rooms are small, inexpensively furnished and bathrooms are basic.

The Y Hotel Hyde Park is a perfect home base for a visit to Sydney. Train to the airport is one block away. It's a short walk to shopping and Darling Harbor. The hotel has a laundry room which came in very handy. Will definitely stay here on my next visit to Sydney.

I really like the location, walking distance to major attractions, eatery, and shopping. Hotel is very close to public transportation. I would use it again due to accessibility although accommodation is not the greatest, not to many space in rooms but clean and host very accommodating.

This was by far my favorite lodging during my trip to Australia. The place is immaculately clean. The room that I stayed in had access to a patio with nice city views. And the location was perfect -- it's in the central district within a 30-minute walk (or two or three stops on the subway) from the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Centrepoint Tower, and […] other major tourist attractions. It's also at the foot of Oxford Street, which is the center of the city's nightlife and one of two or three major districts for upscale shopping. Of course, this is a youth hostel, offering much lower prices than full-service hotels, so you should adjust your expectations accordingly. Among other things, the rooms are small; there was no telephone in the room; and you have to go a shared bathroom for shower/toilet/sink facilities, with a corresponding loss in privacy. If those are unacceptable tradeoffs, you'll want to pay more and get a full-service hotel. But at the prices the Y Hotel charges, it's hard to imagine that a better value exists in Sydney. Read more
