"BEWARE of The Thayer!"
Our experience at The Thayer Hotel was disappointing. We own a Victorian home so we understand what's required in maintaining the charm of an older dwelling along with providing modern comforts but The Thayer Hotel provided neither charm nor comfort. There's no elevator which means guests must navigate a rickety staircase carrying all the luggage. We're […] strong and healthy but struggling up the stairs after a long day of "Leaf Peeping" was exhausting! We were very happy our room was on the first floor, but unfortunately, that room was dingy, cramped, ugly, and cold. The radiator didn't work, the shower curtain was badly torn, and simple amenities, like Kleenex, weren't provided. There was little privacy and noise from the street and parking lot was invasive. We will not return nor could we recommend The Thayer Hotel to anyone. The single redeeming feature is a wonderful restaurant under separate management which is located on the ground floor. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at "The Baliwick" with service and cuisine vying with Chez Panisse or other fine restaurants we've experienced. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Worst place ever!"
This is billed as an "historic" hotel. It is run down and poorly maintained. The room was small. The bathroom smaller, more like a closet with a shower and toilet. Our room was in the front of the building. Street noise would have kept us awake but noise from other guests in hall and adjacent room plus construction that went on until midnight each night […] on the floor above was even worse. The refrigerator in room did not work, air conditioner was removed while we were out during the first day of our stay. There was a portable plug-in heater in the room apparently for use during colder nights. The continental "breakfast" was very poor and available in a very small room on the first floor of the hotel. Hotel staff were indifferent to requests and complaints and seemed to try to avoid eye contact. This was the worst place we have ever stayed and not worth half the price we paid. There is nothing to recommend staying at the Thayer Hotel. DON'T DO IT! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Old world charm home style inn we enjoyed our stay"
We enjoyed the old style inn. It wasn't super modern but was clean and met our needs. It is located very conveniently on the main strip near restaurants and shopping. The breakfast in the morning was a little disappointing as there was really no hot food but we enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This looks like an old house turned into a quaint hotel. It was located in the center of town and within walking distance of restaurants and shops of all kinds. The room was cozy, however, it was not completely cleaned from the previous guest. There was trash (food containers), bottle caps, and a filthy bathroom floor (dirty waterspots). The room was […] on a slant and the bed kept moving from the wall from any movement. Overall, it was a nIce stay and I would stay again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Not your typical chain-hotel experience."
Not your typical chain-hotel experience. Old fashion village type hotel with modern conveniences. Located in an historic, converted mansion-style building on the main street of this charming New England town. Prices are reasonable. Free continental breakfast is adequate. Refrigerators in rooms. Restaurant on premises. I would highly recommend this hotel […] experience. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Being a "historic" destination was not what drew us to stay at Thayer's. The building is old by US standards, and renovations have made no attempt to hide this. That's ok. On the other hand, the room was authentically gloomy, with three different garish kinds of wallpaper. A lot of character...Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Keeping a great tradition"
The manager was very helpful, she made you feel like family. The hotel is keeping the charm of the past with the amenities of today. It makes you want to come back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room "drab" and without "period furniture. The bed was far too low and at one point a corner collapsed when a slat had moved sideways out from under the boxspring. We were able to see other rooms and they were better so I think that there is still work for the management to get done. TV equipement was ancient, with a remote that didn't work. We […] were told the following morning that we needed to have called TO GET A CODE (how silly is that?). We only had about 6 sq in the shower to place items (BAD for my wife). Four floors; and NO ELEVATOR? (We were told that the building is too old; my thinking is that the owners are unwilling to do proper upgrades). The restaurant (Baileywicks (sp) was quite nice and we certainly would go back there to eat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Historic Hotels Rock!"
We knew about the fire earlier in the year, so our stay was a vote of support for a venerable historic hotel. If not for a very faint whiff of "woodsmoke" and the presence of reconstruction crews, we would not have had any awareness of the event. Our room was clean and our bed was incredibly comfortable. Not much of a view, but that was not a priority […] for us. We did not try the free continental breakfast, but if looked fairly basic. There are several nice restaurants and many interesting shops within walking distance of the hotel. We will certainly come again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
/Elevator would be nice for those like myself who has a foot injury, the stairs curve at the top and the hand rail is very low and difficult to negotiate even with a cane. However - there were several people - either guests or staff - who were gracious and helped us with our luggage. Continental breakfast could have had a little more variety. "An historic hotel to discover"
An historic place well located in Littleton, near all the shops and restaurants, with a guest parking. Correct breakfast, and very well kept.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Comfortable beds - shame about the breakfast"
Our bed was wonderfully comfortable, and the room very clean and pleasant despite the usual hotel-decor issues of too many patterns that clash with each other. The hotel was right on the main street, so very convenient for strolling in the town, and yet the sound insulation was good so we weren't bothered by noise. The big thing that let this hotel […] down was the self-serve breakfast, which was chaotic, badly organized, and poor in quality. There is a diner less than 50 yards away, and I would honestly have preferred to go there. This hotel would do better not to offer breakfast at all, considering that they have an extremely limited space and the quality of what they offer is poor. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"lots of character"
parking was challenging and the staff was hard to find and not very helpful, (I had to wait nearly 20 minutes to checkout, as the desk has a be back soon sign, I guess they redefined soon). The location is good, and the hotel has lots of charm and character, the downstairs bar was the high point of the stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Overheated room and noise coming from adjacent rooms and the corridor made it difficult to sleep. Staff were not very professional. The hotel itself is pretty grand building and the rooms were clean and decently-sized, but my impression was that they are now coasting and not bothering to invest in the (probably rather expensive) renovations that would […] make this a truly pleasant place to stay in. Couple of extra notes: - The restaurant in the basement was delightful. - If you're going in the off-season, it may be worth it to just walk in; we didn't inquire but judging by the lowest advertised prices on the premises, they would have been cheaper than what we got on this site. There were plenty of empty rooms. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"quaint and cozy"
Thought the restaurant was great, the room was a bit small, comforter in room needed to be replaced. Good value overall, friendly staff but could use some attention to detail. Old creeky floors and history of the inn were interesting. Was just passing thru and stopped for a one night stay with significant other so it sufficed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Center of Town, Great Get-A-Way"
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the Thayer Inn. We are an active couple who enjoys the outdoors, comfortable surroundings, and good places to eat (even though we have food allergies). The Thayer Inn and it's location met our needs. It is important to note, the Thayer Inn is a historical building it was built over 130 years ago. It has […] wonderful charm, it's floors creek, and there are plently of rooms that have "settled." It is not a new building but it has a new restraurant and a spa. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The bed was so comfortable it felt like our own. Each morning my husband would wake and head downstairs for the contenential breakfast and bring tea back to the room for me. We would head out for a long walk around the river bed (behind the Inn and over the covered bridge). A few times we ate at the diner down the street and it was excellent (the diner is part of the famous 50 diners in 50 states). We also had dinner at the Thayers Inn and that too was great. We visited and purchased candy at the "Worlds longest candy counter" and that was awesome! We visited the book store in town, ate at another local restraraunt (which was an old train station) and that was delicious too. We went to the White Mountains, skated at Loon Mountain, snow shoed in Crawford Notch and always returned to a warm cozy Inn. We had a wonderful stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A tired inn"
Not what I expected, the rooms were steaming hot with no thermostat, I slept with the windows open in February. The bedspread was stained, I truly was afraid of bedbugs. "Thayers inn - quite the gem"
Overall the Thayers was fantastic, we checked in late but the staff was very nice. The inn is gorgeous truly a testament to how things used to be. The only issues we did have was that there were things behind the dresser from a previous guest, and the restraint downstairs was very loud until after 11pm. Our room was directly above the resteraunt, and […] may have had something to do with it, but overall beautiful and we would be happy to stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice in-town room for the money"
This historic place worked OK for this February stay. The room was a little cool at times but otherwise it was clean and comfortable. I did not see any air conditioning, so before I came here in warm months I would check to see if is installed.Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel is an historical landmark in Littleton, NH. If you are looking for modern, this is not the place. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in in a hotel. However, it is so high I had to use a chair to get into it! I am only 5 feet tall! I am not sure if the place is Handicap Accessible. I had to use the front stair way to get to […] the second floor where my room was. If there is an elevator, I didn't see one. During the winter there is no Continental breakfast served during the week, but there can be coffee if you ask for it. There is no coffee I. The rooms though there was a small refrigerator there. There is a diner just up the street and a Dunkin' Donuts across the street. Did not try the restaurant in the hotel, though I have heard good reviews of it. Nice place. Would use it again. "Refreshing Change of Pace"
The inn fits well with the small town stay. There is the old decor of the past mixed with modern amenities. It has charm and character that is lacking in the modern/chain hotels/motels. The bathroom was a bit small with little room to put things, but it was not a big issue to me. I liked the high ceiling in the room with the overhead fan. "Thayers Hotel, Littleton, NH"
Very interesting historic hotel centered in the middle of the main business district of Littleton, NH. The bones are solid and the hotel is an interesting historic relic. Unfortunately it is in need of updates. The good news.. the beds were comfortable and the family "suite" was good for parents with two older kids.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Historic location a little worse for wear"
Great historic building in nice smalltown-downtown area near some of the White Mountains' best motorcycling roads. Room was clean enough for my wife to stay there, but the last update has a few decades of obvious wear. Vintage furniture ranged from a cool four-poster bed to a chair that most thrift shops would decline to accept as a donation. Building […] backs up to the nearby river, with a nice park and covered bridge, and we got some really good Thai food just down the street after sampling the local beer at the Italian eatery/brew pub across the street. The history is rich, including guests from U.S. Grant to Bette Davis, as well as more contemporaneous pols. Adding the location, we enjoyed it, but it's neither the Holiday Inn Express nor a bed and breakfast. It is what it is, and if you go in eyes open, you can have a good time. "Fantastic Small Town Charm"
We had a fantastic stay at Thayer's Inn. The staff was courteous and professional and our small classic room was cute and clean. The Inn is steeped in history, and we enjoyed seeing the gallery of artwork and news clippings, peering into two museum-style rooms with mannequins behind glass, taking in the view from the cupola, and sitting on the outdoor […] balcony. Our room had a portfolio waiting filled with local information, from dining choices to local hikes to town history. The only complaint I could make is about hot water -- both nights the shower would intermittently spray very hot water, probably from other rooms using their toilets, sinks, or showers. A very small complaint. Lovely stay. Would recommend or return again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Really was not what I expected...disappointed"
Upon check-in I waited at the front desk for at least 10 minutes for someone to arrive, in fact everytime I came to the front desk...no one was there..and on 2 occasions when they were on the first floor...the individual was laying on the couch in the TV room watching TV, this is in the middle of the day. Parking was horrible, and although there was […] a drop-off in front of the hotel it was covered in a 2 foot wall of snow....for the 2 nights and 3 days I stayed it was never shovel out to allow you to drop-off...you had to climb over this bank of snow, that is very poor service. I have never stayed in a hotel anywhere in the world..ever...that did not make your bed & bring fresh towels in the morning...that was not the case here...not service...and you had to ask for fresh towels...if you could find someone. At the price for these rooms...service could have been much better. Very poor all around. I would not recommended or stay again. A little less laying around and a bit more customer service would be appropriate. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Unique experience but not for everyone"
Great location and a gem of a historic inn. The rooms are in desperate need of updating but the price is a steal. The restaurant is excellent and upscale. I would definitely go here again but would stay in a two room suite or studio next time. The price for these larger rooms are still reasonable when compared to chain hotels. "Wonderful old hotel - Sadly a bit shabby interior"
The Thayers Inn has a wonderful exterior appearance from the front and the town of Littleton is lovely and convenient for the scenic delights of the New Hampshire countryside. However the Thayers Inn could definately benefit from an interior refurbishment and redecoration (especially the bathrooms). It is not for those who value creature comforts above […] all, but it exudes history including two 'museum rooms' which are set out as they would have been a century ago. I would not be surprised if someone with some money and marketing skills turns it into something much more up-market (and out of my price range). Even as it is, I would certainly stay there again. Beautiful historic inn with quick and easy continental breakfast. Free movie rental at front desk to bring back to the room. Old furniture, VHS and small tv, but that is the charm of the inn! "Hotel in noisy location"
Arriving late on a Monday evening with slight drizzle, we had to park in the public carpark and then try to find the entrance. Check-in closes at 10pm so we went straight to our rooms. Didn't feel the desire to take the notice back down to the car to say we were staying in the hotel... The floor sloped alarmingly in all directions - it was literally […] uphill to the bathroom! An industrial sprinkler system and a noisy air-conditioning unit gave the room an unwelcoming feeling and this was exacerbated later that night when people passed under the window shouting and revving car engines. "A history laden place with a lot of assets"
The Thayers Inn has a history and exposes it very well (photos, artifacts, etc), which is very interesting. The location in Littleton is central, on a nice Main street, near the river. The parking lot could be a bit more respectful of the surroundings. The interior has not been overly modernized, keeping its old "cachet". Even though the room had a […] bit of torn-off tapestry, everything we needed was there for a two nights stay. The associated restaurant (Bailiwick's) is really great : fine cuisine and amiable personnel. The less positive side : a very impersonal breakfast offer... I would suggest a partnership with the local bakery : wouldn't be easy for the desk to pre-order ("à-la-carte") some home made bread or muffins or pastries from that bakery on the evening before and to have them delivered for the next morning ?
