Got a good rate fairly near to our arrival date. As soon as we told the taxi driver where we were going he said "you know that is the red light street, don't you?" We did from other reviews, but it really wasn't an issue. Yes, we saw them on the street and received the occasional "good evening!" in french as we passed, but never felt unsafe and were […] never harassed by them. With that out of the way, the hotel was a nice hotel and very walkable to the city center attractions. We could have even walked from the train station but we didn't know how to get there so we thought a taxi would be the best way. We did walk to the train the morning of our departure, though, with directions from the front desk. Piece of cake! It's actually closer to the north train station. Check in was problem free, there were no lifts so we had to walk up three flights of stairs. No biggie for us. The room was very spacious and it was clean, but the decor was a bit outdated. Still, it was very quiet (we were there in winter so windows were closed) and it was clean. If we return to Brussels and could find a hotel for the same rate that wasn't on that street we would probably switch, but if this was the best deal available, we would stay here again without worry. We were pleased to find our room was bigger than expected, clean, and recently renovated. The beds were comfortable and the overall room extremely clean. They even gave us a kitchen, which we did not pay any extra for. A nice touch. The breakfast was basic but good and the service was friendly. Hotel is in the red light district, I never felt unsafe or threatened. That aside the actual hotel is a little dingy but not too bad. Nice size room and private bathroom with free breakfast buffet. The staff could stand to be a little friendlier and willing to help.

Families beware. This hotel is located right next to a brothel.There is nothing wrong with the Hotel per se; but there are tons of hookers all over the street--day and night. I cannot say this enough...don't gamble by booking this hotel. We stayed at this hotel for three nights and two of those nights were kept up all night by two separate groups of rowdy guests. We were placed in their second building located a block away with no hotel staff there. Our fellow guests were playing music loudly, running, yelling in the stairwells […] and halls and attempting to open our door and knocking on our door all night. When we contacted the front desk staff at the other building they stated they couldn't do anything since they were the only staff and couldn't leave the front desk. He said that he would leave a note for the manager in the morning. COMPLETELY unhelpful being that we actually wanted to get some sleep. Management never asked us about our report and didn't offer any kind of apologies. I don't use the word "hate" a lot but I truly hated my experience at this hotel and wouldn't wish it upon you. We were very pleased to be offered an upgraded room, separate from Concierge and w/o telephone, but very, very nice. BUT, the desk clerks were pretty nice about us arriving late. Wouldn't recommend this hotel nor would I recommend the city. Too many rough looking characters following us around.

The Theater hotel was a great choice for my friends and I during our overnight stay in Brussels. Located not too far from the Gare Noord station, it was a 10 minute walk to the hotel. We arrived shortly after check in, but had to wait 30 mins until the room was fully ready, it was not an issue for us, but maybe for others it could be. The room was 2 […] floors, with a pull out sofa bed for 2 on the first floor (along with the bathroom, desk, and TV) and the 2nd floor had a queen bed for 2 with night stands and large shelving instead of a closet. Everything looked straight from IKEA. I loved the 15 foot windows, though, they flooded the room with light, making for a rich feel. The beds were very comfortable, and everything was clean and fresh. The shower was tough to use because the water is not well contained within the basin (though I feel this is an issue with many European style showers), but there were plenty of towels to help offset this problem. The water was hot and clean too. The only issues we had with the place was that our door did not close smoothly (we were warned ahead of time to be careful with it) and at night we could hear the prostitutes walking up and down the streets (it was more amusing than anything else). While there are many prostitutes around, the 3 of us (2 girls and 1 guy all 21 years old) had no issues walking back late at night. The women do not bother you at all and the area is well lit and we felt safe. Still, this doesn't mean one should never not be aware of their surroundings. Overall, the stay was highly enjoyable and I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and comfortable hotel to stay in! Especially for price, we couldn't beat it! The room itself was OK. The location was awful. It was on a side street where there happened to be road construction going on and there was no access by car to the hotel. One small sign was finally located to alert to traveler to its location. It is in the "Red Light" district of the city. Rather scary. The service was poor. Hotel is located in a prostitute zone. Street is also currenlty under construction, so it makes it every hard to navigate with luggage. We were on the 4th floor ... and hotel hotel has no elevators. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to others.

Four travellers all from 22-25 years in age. the Theatre Hotel is a good hotel for travellers, only a short minute walk from the metro which leads straight downtown. Nice small included breakfast with all the necessities. Sure there are quite a number of prostitutes on the street and surrounding area, but honestly we never once felt threatened or worried […] regardless of the time of day. Even when getting back around midnight, we felt safe. The only downside? There seem have been a few business travellers that stay at this hotel. The suite room we had for 4 guests was comfortable and clean. It was very spacious. The receptionist was friendly and other hotel crew welcomed us with smile. They even offered us help to carry our small backpacks. Interenet connection was intermittently slow but we stayed connected. We had a very nice breakfast. We were a family of five: 2 adults, 1 teenage girl and 2 toddlers. Friendly staff. Price was right for family of five. Convenient to what we wanted to do. Parking garage was farther than we'd have liked, but worked out fine. There are definitely working girls on the streets, but my naive daughter didn't know any better and they aren't bothersome at […] all. Street can be noisy if windows are open. Room was big enough with a small kitchen and bathroom. Actual room was located in another building about 100 meters away. Remote camera access for entry by front desk. So building is secured as well as your room. Though you need the key to unlock the room from the inside....in case of fire, that could be troublesome. Wifi was free and worked well enough. Had a flat screen LCD TV in room so bring a HDMI cable if you want to pipe movies from your computer on it. Cable box attached, but we didn't use the TV. Read more

The hotel was clean and comfortable. It is really convenient for the city centre and is very close to a metro stop. Unfortunately it wasn't easy to find as it is tucked away down a narrow street but the area felt safe and we didn't worry about returning late at night. The hotel was modern and well kept, friendly staff and lovely breakfast each morning. It felt secure with plenty of CCTV and a buzzer for entry. The rooms were nice, good bathroom with a decent shower, good hairdryer and flat screen TV. There was plenty of storage and natural light from the large windows. I had an arm chair and full length mirrors on […] the front of the wardrobes. Only downside is that there were some exposed wires and rubber pipes.... Also it wasn't very sound proof, I could hear most of what was going on in the street and in the stairway outside my room. The location of the hotel was disappointing, it wasn't in a very pleasant area and every evening there were prostitutes all around, I would say about 20 or 30 per night in the couple of streets near to the hotel. Cars were circling round slowly outside and there were often fights going on in the street. As a 21 year old girl staying in Brussels alone, I did not feel comfortable walking from the metro stop on my own in the dark. Even in the day time I felt there were dodgy characters around and felt that I had to watch myself and my possessions carefully. I was followed to the hotel one afternoon by a man and generally felt quite self-conscious so did not go out after dark for that reason. However, if I had been with a male or in a group I would have felt fine about it, and the hotel was a 1 minute walk from the hotel door which was ideal, or a 15 minute walk into the city centre and the grand place. For two nights we stayed in this hotel, we haven't had a good night sleep as so noisy outside & as we are in first floor all we can hear from above is all banging and can hear everything. So not so happy as very tired the next day. Very happy with room is quite spacious unfortunately theirs no kettle for us to make a cup of tea or coffee.

Most things we read about the hotels area were true, yes it's in the middle of the Red light and yes there will be ladies that work in the Red light in the area. If your open minded enough then this is the hotel for you. The hotel was pleasant, very well priced (couldn't even find a hotel in London for one night for the price we got two here) but minimalistic. […] I guess the reason the two star rating is the lack of facilities e.g swimming pool and in room coffee making facilities. Please don't think that I am putting the hotel down, it was perfect for us all we wanted was a decent bed and free wifi, and they provided this along with nice customer service. And there was already a hair dryer in the room! They even held onto our luggage before we checked in so we could go exploring. It was a about 15 mins walk from Grand Place and there is a metro station around the corner. When we return to Brussels I have no doubt that this is where we will stay again. Read more

Our room was 3 floors up with no elevator in a building different from the one with the check-in lobby. There were never less than 5 hookers on the street in front of the hotel at any given time and we had to witness an altercation between one and her "employer". Definitely not a great place for children.
