Amazing staff! Super nice and helpful. Great location though it gets noisy at night due to close proximity to downtown bars. Wouk definitely stay again.

The location of this hotel was just right for folks who don't want to be right in the middle of the action. Just a 2/3 block walk takes you where most of the shops, bars, cafes are. Also, you couldn't beat the nice view of the new Harpa Concert hall all lit up every night across from the hotel. Size wise, the room was pretty standard for European rooms I've stayed in before. As mentioned in other reviews, the bathroom will get wet after a shower. There also isn't storage for your clothes so put a sweater on over that wrinkled shirt you just pulled out of your suitcase. They gave my wife and I a room on the 1st floor. It was incredibly loud in the mornings with slamming doors and the clip clop of heels and dress shoes. Request a room on a higher floor. The front desk service couldn't have been better. They helped with car rental, restaurant info & airport shuttle and were generally pleasant and friendly. I would stay here again, but request a different floor to stay on.

The room was great. We had 3 adult women staying here. Our room had 2 twin beds & a futon. It had a kitchen w/all the necessities. There is not much privacy as it is all 1 big room (sleep area, futon/tv area, and kitchen) but it was clean. Bathroom was clean. In the shower you pull a curtain around you. The floor of the bathroom is also the floor of the shower so you can't really have more than 1 person in the bathroom (like brushing teeth while someone showers). This is not the hotel's fault as it's everywhere in Iceland, the water tastes & smells like sulfur. Be prepared for that. The staff wasn't overly friendly but they weren't unfriendly. After spending a couple days there we decided it is just their culture. Another thing we loved is they have storage. We arrived in Iceland prior to check-in time & the room was not ready so we were able to use a large closet type locker to store our luggage in while we went & had breakfast & walked around. Then came back & checked in. The main doors are locked. You have to ring a bell to be let in originally but they give you the code to get in once you've checked in. They have a computer w/printer available to use in their "lobby" area. I will definitely recommend to everyone & anyone. The tourist companies will pick you up at the hotel or you can just walk down to the one we used. Max 10 min walk. We walked to the church, took 10 min. We paid a total of $193.00 w/tax for 2 nights. We split it 3 ways so really I paid $64! Awesome deal!

I'm recommending it to all of my friends who go to Reykyavik, I loved it, from the simplicity and elegance of the decor to the super courteous, friendly and helpful staff...also excellent location. I loved the beds with white down pillows and comforters, like sleeping on a cloud! And the views of the city are exquisite!

"great place to stay after landing in keflavik"
The owner was very kind to us- we arrived past midnight at Keflavik and drove to Reykyavik- we were lost about 2 blocks from the guesthouse. He answered the phone at 1:30 AM and was kind, polite and helpful and got us to the guesthouse, and then came to check us in at 2 AM, and had breakfast ready at 7 AM. "Don't stay at this guest house!"
We arrived to find a note saying to call the proprietor. Without a cell phone that worked in Iceland we would have been out of luck. The proprietor, however, was in and let us in. The hotel is dingy. The carpeting ragged and dirty. I was not sure our bed linens had been laundered. He left us and then it turned out that we couldn't figure out how to […] operate the shower. Alone in the building, we tried several bathroom with no luck. After a search we found the phone which took a long time to figure out. We finally reached him and he demanded 1000 korner to come and show us how to work the shower. I refused and said we wanted to leave. He refused to refund our money and, as we were packing, he turned up and nastily showed us how to operate the shower, complaining that we'd taken him from his dinner. We spent the night alone in the building. It is dubious that there was a way to escape in an emergency or fire. The next morning we needed to leave before the official time for breakfast. The food was sitting on the buffet but the sullen young waitress refused to allow us to eat before the official time to start. We gladly left. This is not a place to stay in Reykjavik. "Great find"
Stayed here for few days with girlfriend on our first Iceland trip. SHORT walk to the main bus depot (direct trip from airport). A little longer walk to downtown Reykjavik and historic sites and restaurants and harbor. Room was clean and in lower level, and noise was minimal. TV only showed 4 channels but wasn't a big deal to us. Shower was adequate […] and bed was comfortable enough. Helpful but to-the-point young man checked us in without delay, and we met his equally stoic girlfriend who was doing some cleaning. DIdn't meet the grim owner that other reviewers referred to. "Questionable, despite the desirable location"
Caution required. The location and building itself are nice, and the price was reasonable. The street noise wasn't noticeable, despite being so accessible to the BSI bus station. HOWEVER, the bedding, "mattress" and towels were all threadbare, torn, dirty and permanently stained. We actually worried about bedbugs. "Handilly site between the centre and fly bus stati"
If you want to use Reykjavik excursions or take advantage of reasonably priced car hire, this is the place for Iceland on a tight budget. I'd recommend people ring the owner before arriving, as we had a note on the door to telephone, necessitationg a short wait on the doorstep. Lucky it wasn't raining. With cheaper hotels, they are often run by people […] having several jobs and commitments, so seem brusque and busy, but we were then very comfortable and happy with the location. Would have liked a kettle in the room, but we did have wifi and there was a shared area with TV, All was clean. Breakfast enough and ok but no fruit juice on offer. I arrived to Reykjavik at 4 am, and was leaving at noon. Just wanted someplace to sleep a few hours between flights. The place is not suited for that. Paikka on hieman liikaa jämähtänyt myös rakenteellisesti 70-luvulle. Kun varauksessa myös lukee double with shared bathroom, niin kuitenkin huone oli single (sänky) koska olin liikkeellä yksin. Reykjavik hotellit olivat valmiita joustamaan esim. aamiasiajoissa mutta tämä paikka ei. Peruste aikaistetuun aamiaseen oli 8 maratoniin osallistujaa jotka eivät […] voineet nauttia aamiaiasta yhtenä aamuna ollenkaan koska startti oli 8.40 ja aamiaisaika oli aina vain 7.30 eteenpäin. Huoneen patja oli todella vanha ja muhkurainen ja tyynyn pinta hieman erikoinen (muovisen oloinen). Huoneen television kuvan laatu kaikissa vain kahdessa näkyvässä kanavassa oli luminen. Nettiyhteys toimi ajottain ja parhaiten vain kun siirtyi aulaan istumaan. Kaikkiaan jäi karu vaikutelma majoitustasosta. Ammiainen on vaatimaton eikä hedelmiä (muutama omenan siivu) ole oikeasti tarjolla ja leipä oli aina vaaleaa paahtoleipää. Puuttumatta hintatasoihin alueella niin uskallan väittää, että samalla hinnalla sai parempaa palvelua ja tasoa kuin asiaomaisessa paikassa. Det er anden gang jeg bor på Travel Inn, som ligger meget bekvemt lige overfor buscentralen i Reykjavik, den busserne fra lufthavnen kører til. Hotellets standard og service er i fin balance med prisen, der er god værdi for pengene. Men vi glemte 2 poser chokolade fra taxfree på værelset, opdagede det 3 timer senere og ringede. Vi har bestilt hotellet for godt 3 mdr. siden og vi var meget overrasket og skuffet da vi fik et værelse i kælderen. Selve værelse var ok, men ingen vinduer at kigge ud, ingen udluftning - 1 lille vindue kunne kun åbnes ca.10 cm, det var slet ikke nok. Vi blev nødt til at holde dør til gangen åbnet. Det er ikke det man forventer, især når man bestiller […] hotellet så tidligt. Desuden var manager ikke imødekommende: vi skulle på udflugt kl.7.30 og ville derfor spise morgenmad 15 minutter tidligere - har kun bedt om mælk (som stod på bordet i køkkenet), men blev næsten overfaldet med beskyldninger om at vi forstyrrer hans sædvanlige rutine. Ankom ca. 12.30, og her var ingen på kontoret, der var dog lagt en seddel at hvis man ønsked at checke ind så kunne man ringe på tlf.nr. Det gjorde jeg og fik også fat i ejeren, som virkede sur og gnaven, og jeg fik at vide at jo længere tid jeg opholdt ham i telefonen jo længere tid ville der gå inden han kom for at cheke mig ind. Jeg var klar til […] at skride, da vi så mødte en kvindelig ansat som var meget sød og venlig, og hun chekdes og ind. Så det var jo en kedelig start på opholdet. Den manliga chefen skällde ständigt inför alla gäster på den kvinna som hade hand om frukost och incheckning, vilket var mycket olustigt. Han var otrevlig då man bad om hjälp och visade inget intresse för service. Det behövs inte eftersom de har så många gäster ändå, enligt egen utsago. Det låga priset klarar han av genom att underbemanna hotellet (också […] enligt egen utsaga). Flera gäster fick vänta väldigt länge på att ens komma in på hotellet då det saknades personal på plats och ytterdörren var låst. Rummet var dammigt och båda sängarna rasade ihop första natten då ribborna under madrassen låg lösa och hade hamnat snett. Billig overnatting, veldig praktisk om man skal med buss tidlig på morgenen som oss. 2 min å gå til bussterminalen. Å sjekke inn var smertefritt og greit, men ingen fast bemanning i resepsjonen. The daughters in the family checked me in and helped me with the login for the well working wi-fi internet and answered all my question, The location is fantastic - 2 minutes walk to the airport bus and other longdistance buses. 1 minute to a 24/7 service station with fast […] food and supplies. 10 minutes to the University or city - opposite directions.
