"Our two night stay at the Dunbar House, 1880"
07/24/14 Michael F Pittsburg, California
Our over all experience was absolutely wonderful. We were celebrating my 61st b-day, and our 14th wedding anniversary. The innkeepers are very friendly, and they take excellent care of this Victorian home, and the very attractive grounds / gardens. We met some friends that live in Murphys for dinner on Sunday evening--and we enjoyed the restaurant called "Grounds". Plus, we had fun walking around the historic downtown area of Murphys and the central park along a beautiful creek; which runs through town. Both breakfasts were presented well, and the food was fresh and prepared very professionally. Fresh coffee and juice were included. Our only suggestion regarding the food was that both breakfasts were too sweet and rich for our tastes. The other suggestion we will make is for the innkeepers to add a "non-slip" type removable mat for the bathtub. Finally--we should point out that the bedroom we had (on the 2nd floor) did not have a sink in the bathroom--the sink is located on the far side of the bedroom--as far from the bathroom as possible. We will come back to stay again at the Dunbar House someday--but, next trip we will ask for the room on the 2nd floor that has its own deck. (I believe it is called "The Ponderosa Room"?
"First time B&B experience!"

Celebrated a 2 day anniversary get away on a Thursday and Friday and it was our first time staying at a B&B. Very charming room with nice amenities and the breakfast was wonderful. But we did not receive complimentary wine or appetizers as "promised" when we booked our room and did not feel our place to have to ask. However, the homemade lemon bars were fabulous. For the high price was a bit disappointed in the plumbing fixtures, handles of faucet in sink loose and took forever for water to get hot. We stayed in the "Ponderosa", which was upstairs (make sure you can carry your own luggage!) It was an interesting experience.
"Charming B&B and Town of Murphys"

This was a great way to spend my birthday in this charming B&B and the town of Murphys. We were spending two days at the elephant sanctuary in San Andreas called PAWS, "Performing Animal Welfare Society" and they selected the B&B for us. We had never been to the Sierra Foothills before and we found the area quite beautiful. We had the first room by the entrance, the Sequoia Room. It was spacious and had a super bathtub. The treats and drinks were delicious and the breakfasts were out of this world. Beautiful old Victorian two story house with great antiques and grounds but with all modern perks. The town was adorable and we had a great dinner at the old Murphys Hotel.
"Perfect Place To Stay and Chilax!"

We really needed to get away and unwind. Wow did this do it! Every day there were appetizers with wine and beer, home made cookies, fudge and more, fabulous breakfast on our own patio (we had the Sequoia Room). The grounds - just beautiful. The hosts and staff very friendly and professional - if you want information or to chat, they're ready, if you just want quiet time, they are accommodating. We loved every bit of it! Oh, and did I mention the fabulous breakfasts.......

What a super experience we had at this beautiful B&B! We loved our cozy attic room. It was well furnished. It had a nice antique flavor, and the cookies, wine. and appetizers just hit the spot! The breakfast was a feast that incorporated delicious food and a beautiful presentation . Well done! We enjoyed walking through the well-kept gardens and sitting on the cool, quiet patio. Our stay was very relaxing! Thank you! Harlan & Connie Graham
"This B&B takes the cake!"

And the cake is so good you get to eat it too! For Breakfast! These folks really know how to do things up right! The accomodations are superb. The location is superb. Their hospitality and attention to detail..again, superb. But the Breakfasts...beyond superb! They are masterpieces. And then there are the afternoon appetizers in your room plus scrumptious cookies and FUDGE!! Lots of delightful add-ons that just put the frosting on that cake. Dare we say this a foodies' delight. And Murphys has enuff good little restaurants to add to the charm. Thank goodness there is hiking and biking to offset the calories. But i think we'd just stay and eat anyway. Thank-you Dunbar House et al!
"Calm and Relaxed"

We enjoyed a couple of quiet, relaxing days at Dunbar House in early May. The home is very welcoming, and our bedroom (The Sequoia) was spacious and comfortable. We were pleased (and amazed) at the array of goodies provided! Fresh-baked cookies. Homemade fudge. Delicious, and beautifully presented, breakfast. And then -- a bottle of wine and appetizers every day! Wow. That's a first. We appreciated our host, Arline, taking the time to sit with us at breakfast and provide some insight into the history of the house and the surrounding area. We would recommend a visit to Dunbar House. I'm thinking we should plan a visit in the late fall or winter so we can lounge in front of the fire in the sweet and comfy living room / parlor. Our activities included: hike at Big Trees; a visit to Ironstone vineyard; a walk about the town of Murphys; an open house event at PAWS (Performing Animal Welfare Society) which was educational and inspiring. We enjoyed dinners at Grounds and Alchemy. Both were good, but portions are quite large. Entrees are good candidates for sharing if you don't have a big appetite. Aria Bakery is a great little place for pastries or lunch. Yummy!
"A Welcome Retreat"

Been long time fans of the Dunbar House in past years. Gave gift certificate to family members who couldn't stay entire weekend, so decided to enjoy it ourselves! This unexpected opportunity to revisit exceeded our expectations! The best ever fudge and cookies and did I mention the horsd'oeuvre and wine in the fridge upon arrival! It doesn't get better than sitting on the porch sipping wine and watching the world go by! E- books in the room, DVDs if you want...Breakfast was an epicurean delight; awesome souffle, grilled avacado, fruit soaked in sangria - A Cinco de Mayo delight! Can say enough about what a what a memorable experience it was!

32nd Anniversary Enjoyed our first visit to Dunbar House 1880 and Murphy’s. With the exception of the shower/tub arrangement, our stay in the Blue Oaks room was lovely. This spacious attic apartment was so nice. A little disappointed that there were no other guests to share our delicious breakfast and dining experience with, but owner Arline took some time to sit and chat with us, which was nice. So many nice touches and thoughtful planning throughout the house and property by the owners puts this B & B very high on our list. In our 3 days and two nights in Murphy’s, we found plenty to do, even during one full day of rain. We toured the town ourselves and later with a very informative guided walking tour; visited two caves (Mercer and Moaning); visited Ironstone; went to Big Trees; lunched at Grounds and had dinners at Alchemy and also Loruccio’s (all great food).

Nice B&B. Hostess very pleasant and Best Breakfast at a B&B in a long time or maybe ever. Fun walking around Murphys and tasting the wines. Did the Sat. morning walking tour and got some history of the area but had enough and broke off from the tour.
