There was a leak in the pipe underneath the sink in the bathroom, which dripped and wetted the floor over a wide area. I find it troubling that the room was not taken out of service until the problem was fixed. It is possible, of course, that management was unaware of the problem, but the leak was substantial. The room was otherwise satisfactory.

Room had an odor. Over priced. I believe the staff/management has made most of the good reviews on trip advisor themselves! The ceiling in our room had mirrors on the celing that were painted over. Im surprised this place doesnt offer hourly rates! Never again.

Our twin beds had queen comforters which forced them to fall off constantly due to the weight of the excess. Beds too high, small, I barely slept all week, was miserable. Thy give for 2 people 2 small "bath" towels and won't give more per day. One day , they never cleaned our room so I got the maid at 4 upon returning and she basically said her workday […] is over and she will clean tomorrow. Then I had to wait hours after requesting her to clean to actually come. She kept stringing me along . At least that maid knew how to clean. The other one from previous days left everything dirty. The breakfast was good and they are nice about getting you anything you want way after breakfast hours. Everyone is very friendly and they have many magazines to take back to room in lobby and they give free hot drinks all day and there's vending machines too. It was quiet but because its a motel and windy, the Do Not Disturb sign flies off nightly. The location was terrible and ugly. I stayed at the property right after Sandy and during the snow storm right after. Most of the Whitman's guests were out-of-state tree removal crews, utility workers and insurance adjusters. I was in the area visiting family. The Whitman is like stepping back in time when most places were single level and cars parked right outside the rooms. Despite […] its age, the facility is well-maintained and has been updated. The staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. The hotel is located on a busy street. My room was on the back side, so we did not hear traffic noise. Don't know if that is true for the rooms facing the street. There are very few restaurants around. There is a friendly neighborhood bar across the street that serves food. The Whitman has a very limited breakfast -- no meats, no fruit, just pastries and breads. That worked for me. The TV has a limited selection. They have free Wi-Fi which worked fine. Read more

We booked the hotel prior to Hurricane Sandy. There was some mixup and one of two rooms was cancelled. The staff, though harried, did their best to accommodate us under extreme conditions. A modest place, but I would return.

The motel was a comfortable affordable place to stay. My only complaint was that they had someone using a leaf blower inthe parking lot before 9am being this was a vacation I would have liked to have been able to sleep a little later.

Very, very loud surroundings. This motel is right on a busy four lane road that makes for a "less than" experience. Clean, yes. But I cannot recommend.

Great value for this area. Spotless in and out. Rooms average size, but in excellent condition and recently updated. Recommend booking rooms in the 200-300 blocks which are away from main road and less traffic noise.

Our first night we were in a single room which was adequate, but since we were there for a week, we asked about a different room as the room and beds were a little on the small side. I was on a business trip to my home office. I will not be staying here again. Room had recently been renovated but the underlying condition of the structure was not addressed. The room had been sprayed with motel spray to hide the old building odor. No hot water in the morning. The AC did not satisfactorily cool the room. The motel personnel were all wonderful and gracious. My only complaint was that it was a non-smoking room but it wreaked of stale smoke.One suggestion: All motels/hotels should have a small refrigerator in every room because some travelers need to have access to medications overnight that must be refrigerated.

The Whitman Motor Lodge is an excellent choice if you need to stay on Long Island. The rooms are clean, the price is reasonable, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Minor amenities like a coffee machine or hair dryer in the room are absent, but the continental breakfast and fast and friendly service make up for that. My husband and I were reluctant to stay here at first because we generally stay at Best Western type places when we travel but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was super clean, the bathroom was clean and in great condition and even the shower met my approval (which says alot). We showed up around 12 midnight and got one of two rooms left. The cons were: 1) the hotel desk clerk is behind a glass barrier which makes the hotel seem seedy even though it wasn't, 2) they actually were going to copy my drivers license and credit card before we rented the room, which was a huge no-no for me (hello identity theft). The way I got around this was to book on hotels.com on an Ipad and then go back to the window. 3) the breakfast consisted of Otis Spunkmeyer bagels air-bagged in plastic, cereal and no discernible milk that we could locate. What distinguishes the Whitman from other basic motels in its price bracket is that the rooms are nicely done with good linen, are well maintained and very clean. I had to wait 10 minutes for the desk person to arrive back at the lodge. He was away from the property and seemed a bit shaken when he saw me there waiting for him. We checked in and were provided a room to the very rear of the property.
