handy to the main drag thru town only minutes in either direction for amenities . thanks to reading other comments arrived prepared with my own sheets as theirs do not fit well and come off to easily as this visit was in off season didn't have much noise to contend with was able to relax which is what we were there for. good for the budget minded

Very quaint. Only problem we had was the sheet did not stay on bed while sleeping because of the plastic mattress cover (which is a bonus when you think of germs). My husband had to take a field trip for his job & there didn't seem to be that many hotels in the area, especially that fit into his expense budget. At Cool Harbor Motel, we got a fair rate booking online. Thank goodness for internet reviews because we chose this over a franchise since it was said to be clean & had a nice staff, which was true. basically you get what you pay for. The room was nice with refrig, TV, microwave, coffee maker and coffee and hair dryer. My major complaints were: -hairs on the sheets and pillow cases of the bed, -a shower head that I could not turn to face my head, -the tub wouldn't drain the first day -they have a phone in the room that says it is good for free […] local calls. I spent 5 minutes trying to get it to work before calling the front office and they tell me their phones have been disconnected and no longer are able to make local calls. I found that Cool Harbor Motel was very clean and well kept. I have been in house keeping in hotel/motel business and this motel is kept wery clean and tidy I was impressed.

I picked this hotel based on its location near the national park and reviews at hotels.com. I was very disappointed. When I say the room was "cheap", I'm commenting on the quality, not the price. Sheets did not fit the bed. Mattress and pillows were funky. Because no outlet near sink, had to clean teeth in tub, which smelled. Sink was clogged. No alarm […] clock. No iron. and don't count on the continental breakfast, it was all gone except 1 slice of bread and some old mini donuts, fortunately the front desk had given us a great local diner we had dinner at the night before, so we went there for breakfast. Toilet was very old style only about 1 ft off the floor. Toilet seat actually fell off due to being old and bad design. Must have been reported many times. half inch gap around some parts of door allowing any noise to come in. Extremely sparse Cont. breakfast.

Everything at the motel was very nice and clean, the staff was helpful. The only thing I can complain about is the continental breakfast could have been much better, and the tv had very limited number of channels, most of which were sports channels. Overall all, we were satisfied with everything else

I did NOT get the room I reserved. I reserved a queen size bed in a deluxe room. When I arrived they wanted to give me a room with 2 single beds. If I wanted 2 single beds, I would have reserved that type of room. I did get a room with a queen size bed. It was so small that the bathroom washbasin was outside next to the micro wave. This is an older motel, but well-maintained and very decent for the price. It is only a couple of miles from the entrance to Skyline Drive in the beautiful Shenandoah National Park.

Though certainly not fancy, the rooms were comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. No Kleenex is provided and you have to request an alarm clock from the front desk if your room does not have one. We had left the light on in the room and the window open. When we returned the light was off and the window closed. We were on our way from Washington to the Blue Ridge Mountains. It´s a nice and quiet place, the room was o.k. for one night. The breakfast room was a bit old fashioned and neglectet, but the breakfast was good. The people were friendly.

Clean, but noisy. Neighbors were talking all night long and we could hear everything. Mattress was fine, but had a plastic cover on it. Haven't slept on one since summer camp. Sweaty and unpleasant.

My husband and I chose Cool Harbor Hotel due to its proximity to Luray Caverns and the fact that it has a pool (specifically!). We also like to support independently owned hotels. Disappointments: -Unaware to us, the pool is padlocked until noon. We were never told this and had our suits and sunblock on. We would have never stayed here if we would […] have known this. Also you will have to request towels at the front desk if you decide to go in the pool. The hotel only provides one set of towels per person voluntarily. -It seems the motel doesn't want one to use their facilities (due to upkeep?). There IS a basketball hoop, volleyball net and grill. That is fantastic! However, we were never told this and it isn't posted anywhere... so we didn't find out until shortly before we were leaving. We had already had the fixings for a grill! Another negative is there are rules that are plastered everywhere. "If anyone is SUSPECTED of underage drinking, we will call the police." And here are some paraphrased rules: "No noise after 10." "No food or drink in the pool." The rules make sense, but with the rules posted everywhere it makes it feel more like a prison! I stayed there for 2 nights recently and had a wonderful experience. Rooms were very nice and very clean. Staff was great and very helpful with whatever we needed. The pool was very nice. I was very happy and would highly recommend Cool Harbor to anyone staying in the area. I will definetly stay here on my next visit to Front Royal, Va.

We booked 2 rooms. The room were clean. One room had a slightly less maintained bath. we just needed a room to spend the night in between our travel, so no issues in that regard. Nothing fancy, but value for money.

There was actual chewed gum stuck to the top of our head board and we needed to clean the microwave before using it. The beds are extremely hard and having hip and back problems were extremely uncomfortable. I awoke in pain extreme pain multiple times through out the night. Don't expect much from the continental breakfast as it is less than desirable. […] There was some unlabled cereal in a plastic container, some mini bagels, chocolate covered mini hostess style donuts, coffee, milk and juice. Pool didn't open until noon which was a bummer for the kids when it was 100 out. However, the staff was friendly and helpful. The overall cleanliness was good and the grounds well maintained. I'm always weary about motels but I was pleasantly surprised! The rooms were updated and cute. The staff were very nice. We just had to blast the AC when we got in the room because they didn't have it running for us. MUCH better than a super 8 or other motel chains!

Very good stay. Only one night but it is an older property that has been well maintained and nicely upgraded. Staff was very cordial.

The breakfast room is in a rather odd location as well. It's in the very back of the motel and you have to travel outside to get to it. Also, the breakfast room and laundry room share a space, which is very tight. I didn't know whether to eat or throw a load in! We had reserved a deluxe room with queen bed but we were given a tiny room with a double bed. Perhaps because we arrived late at night and asked for a room on the first level? The furniture was arranged in an odd manner so it was difficult to use the closet. We stayed there a year ago and we loved the room we had on the second floor. Friendly staff, clean room, nice location. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired (few choices, small quantify). Bed sheets did not seem to fit too well. Otherwise, nice.

A very good value compared to other Front Royal motels. The building is old, but the rooms are comfortable and clean. Rooms have ceiling fans above the bed, which makes a very nice alternative to running the AC. There are tables outside to sit and relax at and a cute little koi pond outside the lobby. When I checked in the person behind the desk was very confused on which reservation was mine despite having my ID in front of her. She couldn't figure out what room I was in, or how many people I had on my reservation. When I finally did get to the room it was like walking into a smoky bar. Clerk was very friendly, quick check-in. Parking a little tight. Hotel is old, but you can tell they have worked hard to remodel. Rooms were plain but comfortable and had everything needed. There was a very nice Mexican restaurant within walking distance of the hotel. A shopping area was within a few minutes of the hotel. The hotel was convenient to the northern entrance of Shenandoah National Park.

This hotel was nothing fancy, but for a great price, it met all our needs. Overall, it was a bit run down and the service was slow, but it was totally clean and convenient to town and Shenandoah National Park. The kitchenette was a nice touch as well.

The location is great, with several gas stations/restaurants nearby and Skyline just a few minutes away. The room was clean and relatively comfortable, given the rates. My one complaint is that the walls are paper thin, so we heard people in their rooms, as they walked by, and talking outside.

This is an older motel that is very well maintained and updated. The room was entirely satisfactory. It had an excellent A/C unit that quietly cycled on and off without blowing constantly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at cool harbor! Would highly recommend staying at this hotel and we enjoyed the swimming pool.
