Hotel Zihua Caracol - Zihuatanejo

We were looking for a hotel room walking distance to Zihuatanejo Centro & got very lucky booking here. We paid for a standard room at Hotel Zihua Caracol in the middle of May and without hesitation, the young male receptionist upgraded us to the master suite overlooking the ocean at their other property just across the street (Hotel Sol y Luna). We […] had a private pathway to the ocean (30 sec walk), outdoor kitchen with all cookware, private patio with hammock, and the hotel was nearly vacant so the pool that was right outside of our room was pretty much private too. None of the rooms have an actual ocean view, However, the open-air corridors / shared balconies by which you gain access to the rooms have magnificent, panoramic views over the ocean and the city, and have comfortable seating so you can sit in the shade and enjoy all the light and fresh air and stunning views. A lovely little breeze is sometimes to […] be had, since you're up quite high. Hot water – you have to run the sink AND the shower AT THE SAME TIME for several minutes. Just be patient. Its no big deal. You're in Mexico, don't worry about it. The place is not actually on the beach, but is a (literally) two minute walk down the street 30 yards and another 20 yards down a little alley / pathway which gets swept every day. The hotel is relatively secure – there are people at the front desk at all times and they are very watchful and know exactly who is coming and going. After 11:00 pm there is a night watchman who locks the place up and opens the steel gate when you show up in a taxi during the wee hours. The safe/lockbox arrangements are slightly funky, but I had no problems. They put your stuff in a locked bag within a locked safe. The air conditioning unit seemed pretty new and got the job done. The telly just has Mexican TV, which has many channels. A lot of what they show is American shows and films, some overdubbed, some with Spanish subtitles. Our cab driver had a bit of trouble finding the hotel. One of us finally spotted it. The hotel is clean, but simple. For example, there are no phones in the room. The front desk was helpful enough, directing us to a good restaurant around the corner. While we didn't use the pool, it looked like it was clean and regularly used. One member of our group […] had a suite which was a bit larger and had a kitchen on the balcony, but the air conditioner did not work. The hotel offered them a different room, although no other suites were available. Breakfast was good. Combining things like pancakes, french toast, eggs with a few Mexican options. Overall, the hotel was fine for our needs. A one night stay over that was a bit closer to the airport than our previous hotel. For the money, I think it was an excellent value. Read more

This hotel is not located in a good area. The room had two beds. They were both hard as a rock and it was not comfortable to sleep. The curtains were thin and bright lights from outside lit up the room all night. The air conditioning unit was loud and it did not properly cool the room. The television did not have cable and no remote control was provided […] at check in. No English stations were available. The pool was dirty and it was cloudy and had a lot of bugs in it. The only positive thing was that the Internet worked well and there was no extra charge. The colleagues at the hotel were polite and some of them spoke English which was a surprise based on the area. Beautiful Hotel. Very basic, very clean, and staff was very helpful. If you're looking for somewhere cheap and close to downtown Zihuatanejo, this is the place for you. It provides basic amneties and is also a minute away from playa madera. Scenery is gorgeous and pretty clean. Enjoy!

We requested a room with a king size bed and got it at no extra charge. Staff was helpful and friendly. Room was very simple - bed, tv, bathroom with shower. The pool is nice and warm and access to the beach is accross the street. The hotel restaurant provides a few options for the continental breakfast. The hotel is located at Playa Madera, and walking […] to downtown is easy along the beach (about 20 min.). There was a store three blocks away for essentials and a laundry mat about 6 blocks away. Overall this is a great place to be if you're looking for affordable accomodations and are not planning on spending a lot of time in the room. There is also a nicer restaurant at Hotel Irma which was a 3 minute walk up the hill (view of the ocean). Read more

The location was super - we could walk to everything. Our pool clean & quiet - but if hub-bub desired we were able to walk across street to share ocean side hotel pool. Had to switch rooms after first night on inferior mattress - chose to upgrade to room with fridge/kitchen at that time - so a bit extra $ spent. Went to the outdoor restaurant there […] once... much better choices nearby. Shower works but takes 2 showers for the warm water to arrive! Not the best but a long way from bad. Read more

Located at the eastern end of the La Madera strip. a 10 minute walk to the centro and many super restuarants along the way. The top floor is called "garden views" but actually many have awesome ocean views. the balcony is not private, but it was very quiet when we were there..the pool is good too.

This is a no frills hotel but it's location to the beach and downtown area of Zihuatanejo make it a good place to stay for the money. The pool area is very nice...rooftop terrace...and breakfast in the morning. The rooms are a bit sparce but the AC worked great and you need that with the warm and humid temps. We stayed here for one night before leaving for another small town outside of Zihuatanejo so it was simply a transit point. This is not a fancy hotel but the rooms were clean, orderly and comfortable. It was very basic with linoleum floors and a minimum of amenities. I was not looking forward to this one night- it was the only hotel I could find with any rooms available for our one night requirement as I had booked rather late for this peak season. But this hotel and the service far exceeded my expectations. Even when we needed one more towel- it was at my room in under 2 minutes. That doesn't happen anywhere. The hotel is across from the beach but you can get there within 2 minutes- it is located in a nice, safe area of Zihua with easy access to lots of great restaurant options.
