The hotel was very nice and well located. It was on the beach and close to clubs and other entertainment sites. The food was ok at most.

Villa Mexicana is a wonderful place to stay. Right on the beach. Friendly staff and guests. You don't have to leave Playa La Ropa if you just want to relax. Great food at the Villa and many surrounding restaurants. Yoga and massages readily available. Town is a nice walk away or a quick taxi or bus ride. The beds are firm not hard as many reviews said. No refrigerator or microwave in the rooms. But wasn't really necessary anyway. Parasailing is lots of fun if you want to try. Ocean swimming or the pool. There was a turtle hatching, a turtle laying eggs and baby turtle releases all in one brief week stay.

We loved this hotel! We read a lot of great reviews when we booked and it lived up to our expectations. The rooms are simple, but it fit our needs for a relaxing beach vacation. The pool is wonderful and the sunset bar is one of the best views in town. It's easy to get a taxi or even hop on the city bus to get around, but we ended up doing a lot of walking which was a great way to see the city. If you're looking for a big resort for your vacation then I suggest you head to Ixtapa.

The staff is really nice and helpfull. The infinite swimming pool is right on the beach, and it is very nice and clean. The food at the restaurant is very good and fair priced. the beach is gone of the best. The only problem is the maintenance in the rooms; some of them have a strong smell to mould and others have poor maintenance (i.e. window frame falling apart).

The hotel was pretty standard as far as accomodations go. Food at the buffet restauraunts was pretty good. Better at the "Italian" restaurant. Pool and beach were very nice. Staff was wonderful and very attentive. There was a beach volleyball tournament that happens every Jan that was really entertaining to watch and lasted a week. The area outside the hotel seemed safe to walk around and we met many nice merchants. Plenty of taxis to sight see in nearby Zihuatanejo.
Location.
Casa Sun and Moon is close to La Madera Beach, La Ropa Beach, and Principal Beach. Also nearby are Fisherman's Walk and Archaeological Museum of the Great Coast.

"Great location, bayfront views, spare back rooms,"
Location is everything--both where the hotel is sited (perfect bay views, easy walk to town) and where your room is within the hotel (back rooms dreary; front rooms bright with amazing views). Our first (back) room was dark, with only a thin curtain separating the bath from the sleeping area. Un-air conditioned but otherwise comfortable living room […] with fridge and kitchen, separate from the air conditioned bedroom area. Good for families or to put teens in by themselves.Bedroom area spare and depressing, with those comically concrete beds Mexicans love. Sad little pillow wouldn't satisfy a sleepy kitten. Fortunately upgraded to a bayfront suite--the Sun & Moon became Night & Day! Bright, cheerful, well decorated; real door on the bathroom, private jacuzzi (but rarely hot). Great views, but still had hard mattresses. Rooms have outside furniture, which other guests don't treat as private: always some strange kid at our outside dining table lost in his electronics. Same with our hammock. Pool small but with nice views. No public jacuzzi. Long stairway down to beach. Reception (and larger pool) are across the street at a sister hotel, which also has a rooftop bar (with view) plus a (viewless) dining room where you can get meals (we didn't, though). The Sun & Moon would be fine for visitors on a budget who still want views and location. "This place needs work"
I checked into the "hobbit" room which was on the street with all the noise of mufflerless vehicles working their way up the hill in front of the hotel. Very noisy! The room smelled of bug stray but still the "no-see-emsd" targeted me during the night. The two bath towels were so used you could literally see through them... Very nice location on […] Playa Madera with a great little bar/restaruant where "Monkey Man" will cook to suit your fish with all the sides for only 50 peso per person. Dont remember the name of the place, but just ask where Monkey Man works. I work up the first morning to find the local resident orange cat curled up on my bed! Don't leave your door open (I had to because the air con did not work). What do you expect though, renting the cheapest room in one of the cheapest hotels in Zihua! "Old, but CHARMING"
OUTSTANDING views and everyone was so helpful! My sister in law and I spent 16 days in Zihua at Casa Sun & Moon. Our "go to guy, Joe" answerered every question we asked with honesty AND humour--we LOVED this guy!! Zihua is more hiily than Ixtapa, so we got a real good "workout" every day! We were upgraded to a "Suite" when our original room started […] "leaking" during Hurricane Jova. The suite was big and had a kitchen outside on the balcony--also, a wonderful, HUGE jacuzzi tub. The balconies are great and have furniture and hammocks for dining or just visiting. There are no elevators, so climbing up three flights of stairs was a task--at first--after a week, we were used to it. LOVE this place--beds were comfortable, too!! "Nice view and good location"
Hotel was small , comfy , and reasonably priced. Just be sure to have paperwork available . The third afternoon I asked for a towel and a young lady and man at the reception desk (across street at Hotel Zihua Caracol, same owner) said I still owed $489 pesos. They said it was because I used Expedia, which I did not.Next day I found receipt and she said […] she would put a letter in an envelope for the manager, but no apology. Pool was nice, overlooking bay with steep stairway to beach. Postcard perfect except for all the garbage in the water. The bay lowered and rose about 5 times in an hour the day of the earthquake in Japan. Glad we had the pool option, however, one group of people would go down early and put a book and towel on all 5 lawn chairs.The hotel could use a couple more, but people should share and not hoarde. I went a couple of mornings around 10 am and they didn't arrive at the pool until past noon. I hate it when the Ugly American earns the name. Enough on that. There was no resturant in Casa Sun and Moon but there were outdoor kitchen- patio areas that 2 or 3 rooms shared. A fun, easy going setup that was relaxing. "Worst part of our holiday ... PERIOD"
This is an old mexican hotel that is severely behind the times. Service was unnaceptable. There was no hot water, no hair drier,and the TV was ancient. A total of 2 channels and they were both Spanish. The shower head was so old that 5 pinholes worked, but all in different directions. Sure glad to leave that place.Genuine Expedia guest review
