"A wonderful place in an exquisite environment."
A very friendly, professional environment Jonah in the restaurant was excellent along with David the porter. Go here and be very impressed.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Everything we expected and more! From reading reviews and looking through the photos we expected a luxury stay and we were not disappointed, it was perfect! From the staff to the room to the food, it was all amazing and certainly worth every penny! I can also highly reccomend a visit to the spa :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed at this hotel, and what a fantastic experience it was. From the moment of arrival, the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. The grounds and amenities were excellent, spent several hours just walking the grounds looking at the herds of deer, the Falconry centre, and the various lakes. Can not praise the whole package […] offered enough. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"old world charm"
From the minute you drive through the gates you feel it is going to be a unique experience. It is a lovely building and it is old with antiques. Grounds are beautiful with the deer. We had dinner and it was excellent, staff were all very friendly which made you comfortable as some of these high class places can be a bit toffee nosed and a bit off putting […] but you didn't feel like that here. Restaurant manager was very fussy so standards were high and he catered for your every need above and beyond. It is expensive so it isn't a everyday hotel but it is worth spoiling yourselves now and then. I think children are accepted but I personally wouldn't take mine as I think they would get bored and feel uncomfortable in the restaurant. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Swinton Park Castle Hotel"
First off I have to admit we booked this hotel through Expedia at a astonishing low price, so my review has to be based mostly on that fact. Swinton Park is impressive as you drive through the gates and up to the entrance, where the concierge will take your bags for you while you park. We had a easy check in and were shown to our rooms, we had 4 of […] the Dukes bedrooms, each equally impressive, very large, and fantastically equipped ( I mean complimentary whiskey!). There are some tiny issues with both room and general hotel areas that could be addressed regarding décor, but as with any hotel of this size it must be in constant maintenance. The grounds are beautiful and a pleasant walk, we also enjoyed our Bird of Prey experience and Spa treatments booked via the hotel. Breakfast was good, a wide choice of cereals, pastries, jams, fruit etc plus the cooked breakfast (vegetarian option was very good), all served in the impressive dining room by attentive staff. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swinton Park hotel, although we must admit if we had to pay full price it might have been a tad on the expensive side. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Luxury hotel with great service"
Its a great stay with no fault. The location is just nice for a retreat and if it gets bored, you can easily drive 5mins downhill to grab a bite or some shops. The hotel service is excellent and we slept well in the room. Its a dream come true for staying in a castle. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a lovely hotel in a very nice place in north Yorkshire. Everything was great and lots to do and see. One minor comment, breakfast servings were not as efficient as dinner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Two wonderful nights"

Hi All We have just returned from Swinton Park having had two nights where we were waited on hand and foot. We have stayed here quite a few times and each time we try a different room. This time we were in Harlow Carr and we were not disappointed as it was up to Swinton Park's very high standards. We used the spa for the first time and will be using it again without a doubt. All the staff are very helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Looking forward already to our next visit. Les Howarth
"Stunning location, massive and unique rooms."

We have stayed at swinton a couple of times now and it is somewhere quite special. The reason for rmbooking; The location; you really feel 'away from it all' walking the grounds with the birds of prey, the deer and the lake The rooms are stunning and 'huge'. Great views of the grounds The staff are lovely Sympathetically decorated and lots of rooms to get cozy in, you will love your stay. The spa is also lovely to just have some time to relax in. The one small thing for me was that it was quite cold when we stayed, but I am sure old buildings such as swinton are quite difficult to heat. I do think that it is a little overpriced for the location, but I guess supply and demand would say I am wrong
"A Beautiful Setting"

We use this hotel regularly and just love it's beautiful setting and grounds. Samuels Restaurant produces the most exquisite food, much of which is from the Estate or locally sourced. A most varied and interesting selection of Bedrooms to try Tom Lewis heads an amazing team of staff who all give the utmost care in ensuring that guests enjoy their experiences. Do try it!
"Lovely setting and nice hotel"

We had an enjoyable weekend at Swinton Park. The castle is set in it's own grounds and there are lovely walks to be enjoyed taking in the avery and some lakes. Further on you can walk to the deer park and round that takes about an hour. We had use of the 'spa' which is somewhat limited and the hotel cries out for the intended luxury development that is planned. The main restaurant was good, we had the taster menu that offered a good selection and variety of foods. The icing on the cake however was the chef's table hosted by the chef at the cookery school Steve. Two of our party had the days course that they thoroughly enjoyed and the evening was spent enjoying some of the their produce together with other courses prepared by Steve whilst entertaining us with his tales, jokes and impressions - not to be missed if you stay. The slightly disappointing part of the weekend was the disruption from refurbishment of some rooms. Constant noise from the work being carried out that continue into the weekend and commenced at 0745 on Sunday morning. To give some credit we mentioned this to reception who credited out account with a small refund. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel if you are a couple looking for a quiet weekend surrounded by the rolling hills of North Yorkshire.
"Wonderful 20th Anniversary present"

We arrived at 1pm because I couldn't wait any longer, I was so excited. The hotel staff were so friendly from reception, porter, spa staff, waiter and gardner (who I think was Lady Masham) As we were early we got a chance to play snooker (I lost), then billiards (I lost), table tennis (I lost) and we were just about to play darts when thankfully our room was ready! The room was just as I expected. Lovely big soft queen bed. The bathroom had a massive walk in shower and whilst I freshened up, my hubby enjoyed the free drinks tray. We couldn't believe our luck because he likes whiskey and Ginger and I love a G&T! Time for our cream tea, which was served in the parlour with a roaring log fire. I felt like royalty. The spa hour was wonderful. The facilities were all ours I don't know what I expected but it was great. I loved the hot tub and just melted. After all that relaxation it was time to relax in our room and finish off those drinks before we went downstairs to the restaurant. As we were their for "foodie heaven" we started with champagne and canapé whilst we looked at the menu. We had the seven course taster menu with the wine to accompany it. I have never been so full. The food was just to die for! The wine was perfectly chosen and the person serving us had so much knowledge which he seemed pleased to share. The setting for our meal was like eating in a palace with Mozart. If there had been a stringed quartet I wouldn't have been surprised. Our breakfast was again so filling and plenty to choose from. I enjoyed the jams and honey made from the produce of their walled garden. After breakfast we enjoyed a walk around a small part of the acres of grounds and saw their deer, hawks, eagles and owls. Then I walked around the walled garden and was amazed by the produce they could grow. Next it was a trip into the village. Masham is a wonderful village with two breweries to get around. Wonderful food at the black sheep, even though we were still full from breakfast. I must say, we enjoyed the intermit tour of Theakstons as we got so close and could almost touch the beer. This is a wonderful "hall" and we are coming back next weekend for more cream tea to show our parents and children what they missed. I believe they do cooking courses which I am sure I will write about soon.
"Great place for a romantic break."

Like stepping back in time or moving into a stately home. We were greeted at the entrance by our porter John (a credit to the hotel) who showed us into reception and then onward to our room taking time to point out all the amenities along the way. I must say that all the staff we met were exemplary. Each room is named not numbered, we were allocated the "Knaresborough" which is on the first floor but you can request specific rooms if you know where you want to be. The room was pleasant but had some noise issues which I guess you must expect in such an old building, like the wind howling down the chimney breast and the rattling old windows and the floor above us creaked and groaned as our neighbours moved around their room. I tried to convince my wife it was all part of the experience but then the heating went off late in the evening and didn't come back on till the morning. We awoke to acres of snow covered meadow, a bright red sunrise and deer foraging for grass just the other side of the perimeter fence and this easily made up for any negative thoughts. What a beautiful walk after breakfast through the snow and around the lakes, then we spotted the aviary with the owls perched out catching the winter sunshine. I should mention that there is a boot room next to the billiard room so there is no need to bring your own Wellingtons or Umbrellas, they are hung up here ready to go. This is truly a great place to spend some romantic time but one night is not enough, not if you want to appreciate all that is on offer. I think they should describe themselves as a stately home rather than a castle. Walking in was like walking into a National Trust property, but it was grandness without being stuffy due to the friendliness of the staff. You were able to wander around, sit in any of the grand rooms, sweep down the staircase without any fuss. We spent 1 night for our wedding anniversary and booked an hour in the hot tub/sauna in the afternoon -definately recommend - a private conservatory with towels, music and everything you could possibly need to relax. Our room - Jervaux was selected for the v modern bathroom (the biggest shower & bath I've ever used)! but it didn't have the views of the parkland and so when booking again i would go for one of those rooms. However the room was lovely and although being the cheapest we still got the dressing gowns, decanters and luxury that others have mentioned. Dinner in Samuels is unforgettable - the room is so grand, and lit by candlelight is lovely. The food was fantastic and coffee taken by the roaring fire afterwards was the perfect end. All in all a quirky, unforgettable special place.
"Second stay, looking forward to third"
01/16/15 Mrsch0w Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
This was our second stay, our first being after a chef's table a few years ago which was a great experience. On this stay we ate in Samuels and even though we were informed when we booked that the Head Chef wouldn't be there, if we hadn't been informed we would never have known as the food was excellent. We had afternoon tea on arrival and this was lovely with scrumptious home made scones. Breakfast service was slow, we noticed new staff weren't being instructed and there were a few guests waiting a very long time. Overall another lovely stay in the Whitby bedroom with a front view, finished off with a bracing walk spotting the local wildlife.
"Can not recommend highly enough"

Stayed here for my brothers wedding on 11/01/15. From the moment I arrived I was blown away. The hotel is beautiful and very well maintained. The staff on reception were very friendly and the porter who took my bags was a nice touch. I stayed in the Whitby room, which was perfect as that's where I am originally from. The room was amazing, the huge bed was extremely comfy and the details were well thought out, especially the complimentary gin and tonic! The whole day was perfect and all staff very attentive. The wedding breakfast was first rate. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a 5star break.
"Amazing stay, perfect staff"
01/12/15 suzh2015 Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
We stayed here for a couple nights to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary in December 2014. From arriving at hotel our stay was everything and more than expected. The ambeiance was so calm and welcoming, without being too fussy. The room we booked was luxurious and clean with complementary mini exchangers of whiskey and gin with mixers and water (maybe the norm for some but we fund it a lovely touch) The room was at the back so sadly not a great view but we planned going out anyway. Unfortunately I have ME and the morning after arriving I was so unwellc I could not go out anywhere. I rang reception to explain and see if a room with a view of deer park was available, so I could just relax in the room and look out on view. The receptionist rang me back after 5 minutes to say a room would be available in about an hour as it was just being cleaned. When room was ready, reception rang to say a porter would be up to help us move. In fact both she and a porter came up to help and show us to new room. My jaw almost dropped when I saw room, it was totally amazing and had a spectacular view with a fabulous window seat. The receptionist also asked me if she could get me coffee and a newspaper. Every member of staff we came across was helpful and curtious without being over fussy. Perfect. Our anniversary may not have panned out quite as expected, with me being poorly, but we certainly had an amazing place to spend it. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so special. I can not wait to return.
