Everything we expected and more! From reading reviews and looking through the photos we expected a luxury stay and we were not disappointed, it was perfect! From the staff to the room to the food, it was all amazing and certainly worth every penny! I can also highly reccomend a visit to the spa :)

Stayed at this hotel, and what a fantastic experience it was. From the moment of arrival, the staff were attentive and nothing was too much trouble for them. The grounds and amenities were excellent, spent several hours just walking the grounds looking at the herds of deer, the Falconry centre, and the various lakes. Can not praise the whole package offered enough.

From the minute you drive through the gates you feel it is going to be a unique experience. It is a lovely building and it is old with antiques. Grounds are beautiful with the deer. We had dinner and it was excellent, staff were all very friendly which made you comfortable as some of these high class places can be a bit toffee nosed and a bit off putting but you didn't feel like that here. Restaurant manager was very fussy so standards were high and he catered for your every need above and beyond. It is expensive so it isn't a everyday hotel but it is worth spoiling yourselves now and then. I think children are accepted but I personally wouldn't take mine as I think they would get bored and feel uncomfortable in the restaurant.

First off I have to admit we booked this hotel through Expedia at a astonishing low price, so my review has to be based mostly on that fact. Swinton Park is impressive as you drive through the gates and up to the entrance, where the concierge will take your bags for you while you park. We had a easy check in and were shown to our rooms, we had 4 of the Dukes bedrooms, each equally impressive, very large, and fantastically equipped ( I mean complimentary whiskey!). There are some tiny issues with both room and general hotel areas that could be addressed regarding décor, but as with any hotel of this size it must be in constant maintenance. The grounds are beautiful and a pleasant walk, we also enjoyed our Bird of Prey experience and Spa treatments booked via the hotel. Breakfast was good, a wide choice of cereals, pastries, jams, fruit etc plus the cooked breakfast (vegetarian option was very good), all served in the impressive dining room by attentive staff. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swinton Park hotel, although we must admit if we had to pay full price it might have been a tad on the expensive side.

Its a great stay with no fault. The location is just nice for a retreat and if it gets bored, you can easily drive 5mins downhill to grab a bite or some shops. The hotel service is excellent and we slept well in the room. Its a dream come true for staying in a castle. Highly recommended.

"Wedding weekend"
05/29/15 Anne M Chester, United Kingdom
We had a nice big room and a nice big bed, but everything else was disappointing for the price. Emulsioned walls, even the light switch was emulsioned over, no wall paper, no co-ordinating fabrics, small domestic bath with tongue and grooved bath panel. As I say, nice big room, but no luxury at a price of over £200 per night, quite disappointing

"Enjoyed but could be easily made better"
05/27/15 Lisajt1 Leeds, United Kingdom
I recently attended a wonderful cooking lesson and decided to make it a stay over too. The sight that greets you upon arrival is lovely and quite impressive, the building and grounds are stunning. Upon arrival we were greeted in a friendly manner, however, the lady at reception was vague, scatty and telling us she was new so didn't know anything was not really helpful. We were trying to book fishing, but in the end my husband just set off and arranged himself. There were people arriving for various activities and this lady didn't seem to know where people needed to be, couldn't get hold of anyone and it just seemed rather disorganised. After the course I headed to check in, I was shown through the hotel, through some very 70's style glass and gold framed doors that were quite out of keeping to an Earl room - Beverley, it was a large room with separate dressing/vanity area with a large bathroom. Comments on the room are; the bed was super comfy with lovely high quality white linen, the heating was on full and unbearable so had to turn all radiators off and open all the windows, the room had good facilities such as complimentary tea, coffee, gin, whisky, molton brown toiletries, current magazines and books. The room was pretty and traditional in style, we thought the bathroom could have had a larger shower as its a huge room with a small shower unit and also the flooring could have been more in keeping with the period of the property than a laminate. Our room was opposite the spa, it was noisy when people where there and we also had the door banging every time someone walked past and this woke us up a couple of times. The TV was a bit small for the size of the room and we couldn't get to work, the porter had to come and retune, the stereo should be updated with a docking station/ Bluetooth speaker. We had dinner in the rather dark and dreary bar as we felt that the cheapest restaurant menu at £55 per person is rather expensive and the choices were limited. The bar needs updating and could be made more welcoming, the food was okay and the service was also just okay, it felt we were sat in a hallway and people constantly rushing by to serve drinks in the dining room. We retired go bed quite early as we had had an early start, We slept very well and woke up ready for breakfast, the breakfast room was lovely with a warm welcome. The continental breakfast was a little poor and the fruit choice of green melon and grapefruit was poor to say the least. The full English was good, albeit the poached eggs were cold and hard boiled. The hotel charge for Newspapers. After breakfast we checked out and went for a lovely walk around the beautiful grounds. We did enjoy our stay, but we feel for the cost, there needs to be some more modern amenities in the room and some updates made to the bar and other public areas, the exterior building and grounds are wow, the inside is more disappointing. Having stayed at Carlton Towers, the rooms, the service, the food and value for money at swinton were just a little disappointing, we were expecting the wow to continue right through all aspects. Also, staff on reception could be friendlier and the lady on duty in Saturday needs some greater training and needs to be more obliging. Maybe we had built this up in our heads and it was on our bucket list, we left feeling a little deflated really! If the standards in the hotel matched the service, style, professionalism and friendliness of the cookery school, it would be wonderful!

"Excellent food, upmarket but relaxed"
05/26/15 SteveLP8872XL Lincoln, United Kingdom
We stayed here for a long weekend and booked a package deal to include evening meal as well as breakfast. This is reasonable value than individually booking, the hotel though is at the expensive end of the market. The location is excellent with a deer park adjacent to the hotel as well as parkland. The hotel is simply great - very classic period home/castle. It is not quite at a level of say the Randolph Oxford, but has a nice relaxed atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had evening meal there all locally estate grown produce, the menu was a little limited but the food, wine and service were superb. Breakfast has a wide variety of cooked and cold foods. The restaurant is lovely with a great view of the park and deer. Classy in a measured way - high 4 maybe a 5 (the price edging it a little lower).

"Great Hotel, but has it's Niggles"
05/26/15 JackGlasgow Glasgow
Most of the reviews for this Hotel have been extremely positive, which is largely why we decided to book a 2 night stay, Dinner B&B. The price on offer for a late booking was attractive & certainly, the first impression when you turned in the Drive was 'Wow!'. It really is a stupendous looking building in lovely parkland surroundings. The check - in staff were friendly & helpful & we were quickly settled in our room. the complimentary decanters of Whiskey & Gin were a nice touch, plus the toiletries were fairly comprehensive. So far as the room itself was concerned - well - it wasn't quite up to the level we expected from the website. It was fairly drably decorated with old photos on the wall as opposed to the 'works of art' one is led to believe. Also, the standard of cleaning was an area ripe for improvement, with cobwebs hanging from the window poles & long black congealed hairs stuck to the bath-mat (my wife is blonde, I'm grey!). The next day after the room had been made up, there were still residue stains from shampoo bottles in the bathroom & the carpet in the bedroom was still showing bits of tissue etc. from the morning. Also, 3 out of the 7 lamps in the room were U/S, including the reading light by the bed. They were fixed the next day after the second call requesting they be fixed! They suggest you go down to the lounge 30 minutes prior to you dinner reservation time so you can enjoy an aperitif. We did. After 3 attempts I finally gave up on the drink, as each drink ordered was out of stock (though on the menu). I thought after 30 minutes waiting enough was enough, especially as my wife in the meantime had finished her drink. The positive part of the evening was the dinner. The food was superb, wonderful tastes & surprise combinations that worked beautifully. The service could have been quicker, but that was a minor issue. Breakfast the next morning was excellent - very high quality ingredients nicely presented. We had an excellent night's sleep in the very comfortable bed, among the best we've slept in. Dinner the next evening was somewhat different from the previous night. The same quality & presentation of food, but probably the slowest service we have experienced - ever! The waiter apologised for the delays a number of times, so I assume there were problems in the kitchen - but over 3 hours to serve 3 courses? Funnily they had a different Maitre D' on the second night. the one the first night was constantly involved in the dining room, checking everything was going smoothly. The one the second night was conspicuous by his absence! I don't want this to seem that we weren't impressed by this Hotel - we were. The staff are great, the building is very grand & the grounds are amazing. We enjoyed our stay, but, I think, considering what you can end up paying for your stay, a few things could do with some attention to detail.

"Very tired and overpriced"
05/26/15 albion51 Perth, United Kingdom
We stayed here for two nights, thinking that this would suit us after reading the web-site. Overall experience fell way below what we were expecting. The rooms (we had a suite) were large but very worn. The TV in the bedroom was old and we failed to make it work on arrival but in fairness, when we reported it the next day, it was replaced immediately. The bathroom was a shower over the bath and again, we knew that when we booked but now having time to reflect, at £350 per night DBB, we shouldn't really be climbing into a bath for a shower, in this day and age. During the two days we were there I failed to obtain any hot water from the tap in the basin (boiled a kettle for a shave) and when I say hot water, I really should clarify that and say, warm water. The food was a great disappointment, having read the web-site which advertises cookery classes, we really did feel confident this would be spot on. Unfortunately, it wasn't, it was just average - just glad we hadn't booked for one of the lessons!

"My Favourite Hotel in the UK!"
05/25/15 MissArianaRose
I booked Swinton park for my boyfriends birthday for 2 nights, we returned yesterday and we absolutely loved it. We stayed in a Dukes room and it was amazing, huge and so clean and lovely views. I really like how each room has its own design/personality. Also really like the Molton Brown they have in the bathrooms, nice touch. We checked in and had dinner quite late from the Castle menu, it was delicious. Because we arrived late there was a delay in the kitchen but the lady in the bar area ensured we were looked after, giving us fresh bread etc in the meantime. We didn't try Samuels restaurant purely because the menu didn't appeal to us. Breakfast was good, not the best I've had but it was nice and all the staff are amazing and friendly, they all greet you whenever they see you which is refreshing. I ordered the deluxe hamper picnic for the saturday day and we took bikes out and cycled around the estate, well worth it. The picnic was great, lots of variety. The only think I could complain about really was that the chef forgot to include butter for the bread and salt/pepper for the soup. We had booked the wet spa area for 7:15pm, we were sat in reception waiting till they cleaned it for 20 minutes. This is probably the only thing that really annoyed me during the stay as I expect it to be ready, for a hotel of this calibre I don't think it's acceptable to have guests waiting about that long when it's pre booked, especially as it made us late for our dinner reservations in Ripon. HOWEVER the spa was great and I love that you get private use of it for the hour. Overall this hotel was amazing, great staff, good food, good service. I'd especially like to thank the lady at the bar, she's quite new to the area, I didn't catch her name, but she was great! I'll definitely be visiting again. There is so much to do at the hotel, we wanted to try the fishing and golf too but hadn't organised a fishing licence and the golf tends to be booked on bank holidays for tournaments. I'll definitely try the cookery school next time too! Only Cons: - missing a few bits from the picnic - waiting 20 mins before we could use the spa - the bathroom in our room was incredibly warm, we were told the heating was off but it was constantly warm so made the room quite warm too

"One year wedding anniversary treat"

What an amazing place to stay! We really enjoyed walking though the grounds, exploring the hotel and dining in Samuel's restaurant. The complimentary whiskey and gin in our room were a lovely surprise as was the turn down service. Our room was very nice and the bathroom huge with both a walk in shower and a big tub. Despite this (and me giving Swinton Park an Excellent rating) I am worried that the place is so big it's not being well enough maintained, also the breakfast was no where near the same standard as our evening meal... just a few things to consider Swinton.

I've stayed at Swinton Park a few times with the Husband.....love it that much we even got married there 😊. This is the first time ive been in a couple of years and went with a friend and it's not changed one bit. I can't fault anything about this Hotel at all, from the moment you arrive your every whim is catered for. The food is excellent and the service you receive from the staff is second to non. We went on the Spa Heaven package I wasn't expecting a spa as I knew this was yet to be built. The wet room set up was a bit strange but all very relaxing .... The facial I had was one of the best I've ever had. We didn't venture far and stayed in the hotel all day. We both had a fabulous time and left feeling very relaxed. The plans for the Spa and Brasserie are on display in the foyer and it looks amazing, I'll definitely be back to try this out.
