Everything we expected and more! From reading reviews and looking through the photos we expected a luxury stay and we were not disappointed, it was perfect! From the staff to the room to the food, it was all amazing and certainly worth every penny! I can also highly reccomend a visit to the spa :)Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"old world charm"
From the minute you drive through the gates you feel it is going to be a unique experience. It is a lovely building and it is old with antiques. Grounds are beautiful with the deer. We had dinner and it was excellent, staff were all very friendly which made you comfortable as some of these high class places can be a bit toffee nosed and a bit off putting […] but you didn't feel like that here. Restaurant manager was very fussy so standards were high and he catered for your every need above and beyond. It is expensive so it isn't a everyday hotel but it is worth spoiling yourselves now and then. I think children are accepted but I personally wouldn't take mine as I think they would get bored and feel uncomfortable in the restaurant. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Swinton Park Castle Hotel"
First off I have to admit we booked this hotel through Expedia at a astonishing low price, so my review has to be based mostly on that fact. Swinton Park is impressive as you drive through the gates and up to the entrance, where the concierge will take your bags for you while you park. We had a easy check in and were shown to our rooms, we had 4 of […] the Dukes bedrooms, each equally impressive, very large, and fantastically equipped ( I mean complimentary whiskey!). There are some tiny issues with both room and general hotel areas that could be addressed regarding décor, but as with any hotel of this size it must be in constant maintenance. The grounds are beautiful and a pleasant walk, we also enjoyed our Bird of Prey experience and Spa treatments booked via the hotel. Breakfast was good, a wide choice of cereals, pastries, jams, fruit etc plus the cooked breakfast (vegetarian option was very good), all served in the impressive dining room by attentive staff. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Swinton Park hotel, although we must admit if we had to pay full price it might have been a tad on the expensive side. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Luxury hotel with great service"
Its a great stay with no fault. The location is just nice for a retreat and if it gets bored, you can easily drive 5mins downhill to grab a bite or some shops. The hotel service is excellent and we slept well in the room. Its a dream come true for staying in a castle. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a lovely hotel in a very nice place in north Yorkshire. Everything was great and lots to do and see. One minor comment, breakfast servings were not as efficient as dinner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Swinton park Castle...a must stay"

We stopped there in October for an over night stay. Absolutely stunning upon arrival. Staff very friendly, helpful & gave us the tour of the building. It's absolutely pristine, immaculate, stunning....everything anyone could asked for in a building of this age. We had afternoon tea followed by an hour in the little spa. It was a nice personal touch to book the time so you can take time out to relax on our own in the hot tub etc. The bedroom was beautiful, down to complementary gin, whisky, (which we thought was a nice little touch) fresh milk for a cup of tea, down to quality bath soaps, shampoos etc & a big walk in shower with a huge bath sat in a bathroom bay window over looking the grounds. The food.......UNBELIEVABLE. All local produce, from the meat to the vegetables, the evening meal was food we would have never actually thought of trying, but oh so glad we did. Some of the best dining we've EVER tasted. It was really that good & tasty, mouth watering to say the very least & never wanted the plate to empty. The breakfast was to match. It's a must, even just to have a meal there. We've stayed at Rockcliffe Hall a number of times, this we feel topped there, little touches that Rockcliffe doesn't have or do. We thought the place was very personal from parking the car & also unpacking it to making sure we had the most comfortable stay possible, staff exceptionally polite/helpful, food absolutely amazing, surroundings & building are stunning. This place is a beautiful retreat & will definitely be returning there.

Excellant hotel with every detail catered for, staff are superb and cater for every need. Lovely bedrooms and all public rooms are steeped in history it is like staying in a Stately Home with fantastic decor. Outside a walk passed the deer park into the woodlands is a must, and they even supply boots and coats for the trip.Evening meal was of the highest class and breakfast the best we had for many a year. All in all a special Hotel for that special occasion enjoyed especially by my wife on her birthday treat.
"A Wonderful Week"

My partner and I spent a wonderful week here in June this year. The delay in writing this review has arisen purely because I was taken seriously ill just a couple of weeks after our return home. Without any doubt this is the best hotel we have stayed in. The staff are so attentive, the food is amazing (good to see that Samuel's Restaurant is now in the Sunday Times top 100 UK restaurants - very well deserved accolade for Simon), the accommodation is superb and the setting is stunning. If you like walking then do walk to the bothy and have a picnic in front of the coal fire which will be blazing away on your arrival. When all the staff are so helpful I'm reluctant to mention anyone in particular. I feel though that I must mention Tony Hopgood who went above and beyond the call of duty when I managed by my stupidity to get us lost on our walk to the bothy. He clearly emphasised that we should turn left at a certain point. I managed to turn right! We did the walk to the bothy a second time when we did get it right but I can still hear Tony's plea that this time we must turn left! We shall return and indeed it is our intention to get married here in August 2016!
"Excellent, can't wait to visit again"

My husband and I spent one night at Swinton Park in the Knaresborough (Barons) room - it was spacious, beautifully decorated and had large windows with superb views over the grounds and the lake, so much so that it seemed a shame to leave the room to explore further! We used the spa facilities, which we booked in advance and had exclusive use for an hour. We then opted for a massage each, which was lovely, the beauticians were very polite and professional and the facilities were clean. We had an afternoon drinks in the drawing room- what can I say - this room was stunning, the decor and furniture was grand and very well looked after, this room also has large windows looking out to the gardens. The service in the hotel is second to none, from the moment we arrived the staff were extremely attentive and also very polite and friendly, answering any questions and providing recommendations for walks etc. We decided to make the most of the estate and had a walk around the woodland/lakes, which was idyllic. The woodland was filled with bluebells and daffodils, with ducks and ducklings swimming in the lakes. We also saw deer in the distance which was great. We ate dinner at a pub in the village, but had breakfast in the hotel. The dining room was stunning, and the breakfast delicious. I ordered the smoked salmon and my husband chose the full english, which was served after we had indulged in the various fruits, cereals and juices offered to us. All in all a very positive experience and we cannot wait to visit again!
Nothing is too much effort from the staff. The moment we arrived we knew we were in for a treat. This is a wonderful Victorian castle close to Masham in North Yorkshire. Dinner was truly excellent with great wines. Our bedroom was very large with a great view over the park. Breakfast was memorable and then a long walk around the grounds up to the Top Lake. You are surrounded by a glorious deer park and fabulous countryside. We will certainly return soon.

We went here on a 2 day business trip and got to use plenty of the facilities. We attended the cookery school which was a great experience with fab food. On the evening we went to the deer lodge for an outdoor BBQ. Again plenty of food excellently prepared and what fun walking back to the hotel in the dark not for the faint hearted. The rooms are beautiful with large bathrooms, and lovely big comfy beds. The grounds are beautiful, the staff are professional and the food excellent. All in all a lovely experience.

Went to Swinton Park ( second visit ) for their October 2014 Gourmet weekend . Everything was prefect from the meet and greet ( "Park your car for you sir ?" ) through afternoon tea and wine tasting to the final night gourmet dinner . On night 1 you select from a 4 x 3 choice menu and my starter and main course were as good as any meal I have eaten . Cheese is presented elaborately and is at no extra cost - a welcome surprise given how often restaurants make the cheese course more expensive than their desserts . We had the Fountains Abbey room - spacious ( large bed and comfy sofa ) , tea coffee , complimentary whiskey and gin with mixers ,biscuits ( replenished on day 2 ) magazines , Moulton Brown in bathroom , bath robes ....nothing was amiss . Day 2 included Gin tasting and a long and fascinating discourse on wild game . Lunch is extra but a very reasonable and delicious mixed platter was all that was needed . Afternoon was a cookery demo - well delivered and witty . Then the 2nd afternoon tea and wine tasting ! . Dinner was preceded by Prosecco and canapés and then 8 courses with a wine flight . All excellent . Breakfast is another feast and served in a magnificent dining room . Mid morning was a short land rover tour of the deer park and then a relax in front the fire with the Sunday papers . Almost too much food and drink but no one was complaining . Well done Swinton Park - we will return .

My wife and I selected Swinton Park based on the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. Our 4 night stay was a great success starting with the friendly advice regarding our choice of room when we spoke to the Receptionist and even enlisting the help Tom Lewis, the General Manager, in enabling my wife's best friends to arrive unexpectedly whilst she was having a birthday pedicure. We arrived on the day when the previous guests were leaving after their "Downton Experience" weekend and it is easy to see how this fits into the style of the Hotel. The service throughout the Hotel was first class, even down to having Classic FM turned on when we returned to our room at bedtime. The food quality was excellent and our only suggestion to improve the variety would be a change of menu after three days - but then we would probably have missed the rabbit terrine starter that we enjoyed on our final night! In short, we are happy to add our Tripadvisor applause for this very well run Hotel in a fabulous setting.

My husband and I treated ourselves to a mid-week two night break at Swinton Park and there is much about it that's wonderful. It's a stunning building with beautiful grounds including grazing deer and staying there feels like getting to overnight in a National Trust stately home. The staff we encountered were, without exception, absolutely delightful. We used the private spa and had massages, which were really very good. We also had dinner in Samuel's, which was a great experience, although we would have appreciated a little more choice on the menu. Afternoon tea was also wonderful. Having said all that, why have I given a 3* rating? Our room was one of the top categories of room (called a Dukes room) and cost just under £300 per night mid week on a B&B basis. In other words, it was a very expensive treat for us and we had high expectations. The room was spacious and very nicely, traditionally decorated. However, it was also located directly above the hotel kitchens so was sweltering hot, noticeably smelt of food (bread in the afternoons and bacon in the mornings) and we were woken by noise from the kitchen at 5.30am on both nights of our stay. We also had to sleep with the windows open (in late October) as the room was so hot and this resulted in a generally disturbed sleep before the major clanging started at 5.30am. I feel the problems with the room being above the kitchen must be known to the hotel, as there was a large electric fan positioned opposite the end of the bed when we arrived. I'm disappointed Swinton Park sold this room to us at this price and that we left our break in need of a decent sleep!
"A Happy Find....in every sense"

My husband and I spent last night at Swinton Park and from the first impression - on driving through the magnificent entrance past the deer park - to check out this morning, we have only the best things to say about the hotel. We stay at some of the best hotels in the world but it is very rare that we feel such a happy atmosphere pervading a place. The staff at reception were warm and welcoming, the gentleman who carried our bag to our room - rather than opting for the easy route via the lift - carried the bag up two floors to show us past the family portraits and other historical memorabilia....he couldn't have been more proud of the place if it had been his own home, and the bar and restaurant staff at both dinner and breakfast were cheerful and chatty (but not too chatty)....and very efficient. Our large comfortable room with a fabulous original sash window, with wide window seat overlooking the deer park and fireplace and nearly equally as large bathroom with state of the art bathroom fixtures, a massive walk in shower as well as a Philippe Stark type bath , original working shutters ..........and another fireplace, was everything we could have wished. There was free wifi and all the usual things like bathrobes, slippers, tea and coffee, Molton Brown toiletries etc, but the very best thing was a tray with complimentary gin, whisky and Fentiman mixers! We thought WOW! Whoever has set this place up REALLY understands what people would like to find after a long slog up the motorway. In a nutshell, we felt like guests in someone's beautiful private home............and we are already planning when we will be able to go back. Thank you Swinton Park for a really pleasurable experience.
