"Luxury hotel with great service"
Its a great stay with no fault. The location is just nice for a retreat and if it gets bored, you can easily drive 5mins downhill to grab a bite or some shops. The hotel service is excellent and we slept well in the room. Its a dream come true for staying in a castle. Highly recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This is a lovely hotel in a very nice place in north Yorkshire. Everything was great and lots to do and see. One minor comment, breakfast servings were not as efficient as dinner.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Oh my goodness AMAZING"
Wow, the most amazing experience ever. Surroundings are breathtaking rooms spacious and luxurious everything was just perfect. Staff couldn't do enough for you and the little touches were very special. Would go back in a heat beat, best hotel stay I have ever experienced.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Ideal Weekend Break"
The hotel may not be cheap, but confirms the old adage that you get what you pay for. Top notch in all respects and pleasingly 'unstuffy'. I fear anywhere else we might stay will pale by comparison.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Always will be No1 for us"
This place has become our bolt hole, and I cannot talk highly enough about the place, the location, the rooms, the staff, the service and then there is the food, which is simply original & exquisite. Its a great place from which to explore the Yorkshire Dales; Hawes & Grassington are well worth including on any excursion, and don't forget The Red House in Bedale if you are looking for something unusual. We have explored some of the grounds, but have yet to try any of the other facilities they offer, never having felt the need. Just being at Swinton Park is enough to recharge the batteries for the weeks ahead until, fingers crossed, we are able to visit again.

My Husband and I got married at this incredible place on 12th August 2012, you might be thinking why so long after to post on here - well I have just cleared out my cupboards to find my thank you letter to Rebecca our wedding co-ordinator that I had never sent! For this I am so sorry it must of got caught up in a bundle of paper! This is what it read; Dear The Directors, Rebecca and all the Staff at Swinton Park, Thank you for being part of the best day of our lives, the day was unforgettable. We wanted a dream wedding and boy did you all pull out the stops. The two nights we were their everyone felt like prices and princesses / kings and queens. Rebecca is a true asset to your hotel and looked after us from day one, she was so professional and kind and felt so lucky to have such an amazing wedding co-ordinator. She was truly amazing. In fact all the staff were so friendly, kind and genuine people with a clear passion for the hotel. The food was out of this world, and will defiantly be coming back to enjoy the food, from afternoon tea, wedding breakfast, evening meal and breakfast everything was super and faultless. We now have such a love for this place and will return again and again, and will continued to tell people about this amazing hotel. Thank you so much for everything, I can not thank you enough. You are all amazing and should be so proud of yourselves, you are all perfection in your job roles and admire people like yourselves. With Love from Lucy and Robbie - Mr and Mrs Payne Sorry again for this lateness and would love for you to let me know if Rebecca still works at the Hotel. I would recommend again and again and again - The best in the World - Even better than the 7* in Dubai ! xxxxxxxx
"A treasure of a stay!"

We recently stayed for four nights at Swinton Park. I was initially reticent about whether they really did welcome families as they claimed to do (my twins are five years old) . From the moment we arrived to the time we left they could not have made my boys feel more at home. The staff are a credit to the place and I genuinely felt nothing was too much trouble for them to ensure our stay was as enjoyable as possible. The room was fastidiously clean and well appointed. I very much appreciated the welcome bags of goodies for my boys - a lovely gesture. Room service was excellent, swift and accurate. The children's play room catered for a good age range and the daily housekeeping was superb. It was wonderful to walk into our room every night and see it beautifully clean and today again. Breakfast was great and the staff catered for every ask from the boys. We ate in the bar one night and even with a wedding happening we were made to feel special and catered for. My Spa treatments were relaxing, professional and good quality products used. Once again the staff here are a credit to Swinton Park. We were blown away with our "taster session" with Sophie at the Falconry Centre - she is incredibly knowledgable and clearly loves her job. My only criticism is our room was stiflingly hot. We slept with the windows open all nights and I would perhaps be reluctant to stay at Swinton Park during the Summer for fear of melting! That being said I'm sure if I had called Reception for a fan they would have delivered one, such was there desire to please. My suggestions for improvement would be the option of having newspapers delivered to your room daily, a chest of drawers in our room (as opposed to your "smalls" being left on open shelving), fresh milk in the room rather than UHT cartons and a mini refrigerator would have been welcome rather than calling room service. These suggestions though in no way detract from what was a superb stay. We will certainly return!

These guys really know how to do things well. We have stayed in some historic hotels and, to be frank, most are at least a little jaded and oversold. This one, however, has everything. A magnificent gateway leads to a sweeping drive and a covered portico where we alight sheltered from the rain, stroll into Reception and register – we had pre-booked so this was just a matter of providing two signatures and a car registration. Melvin, the ever-helpful porter then takes you and your cases to your room, giving a short history and tour of the public rooms on the way. He then returns to reception to park your car – about 50 yards from the main entrance. The room does not disappoint; spacious, clean, with views over the grounds to the gatehouse and an en suite to die for. Everything says ‘quality’ and there is a feeling that they have tried to anticipate your every need. The room is warm and the bathroom has enough radiators to satisfy the most cold-blooded (ME!) It is nice to see that guests are trusted not to walk off with the hair drier. Back down for dinner and the public rooms are on a grand scale. The Drawing Room is warmed by a huge log fire and has ample, comfortable seating for pre-dinner drinks and when we move to Samuel’s Restaurant we are pleasantly surprised by the spacing between tables, allowing privacy but not isolation. Food is, as expected, excellent – well-presented and just the right quantity. Service is, also as expected, faultless – discrete but friendly. And so to bed – which has been turned down – and a soothing nightcap of complimentary whiskey laced with honey provided by the restaurant staff. Nice to find the heating stays on all night so no shivering in the morning. Almost instant hot water in the bathroom. Breakfast is the normal cold buffet with a selection of freshly cooked hot dishes and again the food is well presented and elegantly served. Then a day out in Ripon and a return to more luxury for our second night. There is so little to fault that I’m going to be a bit picky here. First, the restaurant menu is very limited – just four choices for each course- and if we had stayed for longer we would have resorted to eating out after the first two nights. Second, there is a bias towards goats cheese – not our favourite and, judging from overheard comments, not liked by several fellow guests. Last – and I’m sorry all these negatives seem to be directed towards the kitchen – at breakfast the chives with the scrambled egg and smoked salmon was an inspired addition; but the same chives with the haddock and poached egg totally overpowered the dish. I hesitate to single out any member of staff for praise as even the housekeepers were cheery and helpful, but Merrychris in the restaurant is worth her weight in gold. We hope to return in better weather when we can enjoy the parkland that surrounds the hotel.
"Elegance, grandeur, wonderful food and first class service"

We stayed here in March 2014 for two nights, beautiful room - service from all the members of staff was just right. The restaurant and sitting rooms are beautifully restored, wonderfully decorated and simply grand. The restaurant was full on the Saturday and we enjoyed the tasting menu with the flight of wines - well presented food, not too much - just right. Other highlights include breakfast, walking through the splendid estate, afternoon tea, massage etc - a special place for the special occasion. Spa about to be remodelled with the addition next year of a swimming pool I think - then it will be unbeatable We will return
"A fantastic place to stay"

From the moment you arrive you can tell Swinton Park is very special. We took time to enjoy the Spa, had dinner at the Chef's table in the Cookery School and had an excellent breakfast. Service is impeccable and even though it is a very old building the rooms have everything you need (with some nice touches in terms of complimentary drinks). We will be hoping to visit again as soon as we can.
This was a birthday treat and all I can say about this hotel is it's gorgeous. The food, the bedroom, staff, service faultless- it's one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Thank-you. Will be back again.
"Beautiful place but (sadly)disappointing stay"
03/21/14 CME2014 Sunderland, United Kingdom
Was really excited when given a 2 night D,B+B voucher for Swinton Park as had heard so many good reviews and love this area. Booked 2 nights 17th (St Patricks day-certainly no mention of that) and18th March 2014. Decided and booked treatments for myself and partner (who had never had a treatment before but I reckoned he would enjoy and this would open other similar doors) 2days before visit but had a phone call the next day as had to change both as neither were available any longer! The alternatives were good but the tiny place to sit before is not conducive for relaxing and prices much higher than similar hotels. Reception staff were unwelcoming and unhelpful(??because knew we had a voucher) and remained so every time we asked them anything. Also found it odd that even though I had booked our stay the reservation was in my partners (male) name!! It would have been helpful if we had been informed on arrival that we could book the spa for a session which we discovered the day we left. Building is spectacular and room was large and comfortable with good views (Fountains Abbey). Drawer space limited for such a spacious room. Restaurant staff were formal and helpful and dinner excellent. Disappointed and surprised that the menu was exactly the same on both nights so ate in the bar the second night which was a better experience as both barmen were exceptionally helpful and informative. The food was good and well presented. Breakfast was ok with little atmosphere in the restaurant and cold crumbly toast did not help! Overall worth a night as a treat but would not recommend 2. "A stay made totally memorable by the Birds of Prey, Eagle Experience"
03/18/14 PollyB133 Wetherby, United Kingdom
From the moment you drive through the gateway at Swinton Park, you begin to relax. The building has a very comfortable grandeur, not at all intimidating and that is mostly down to the staff who are very willing, friendly & professional. Most of what I think about the hotel has already been said but I want to make a special mention about the birds of prey experience - OUTSTANDING! I personally flew an Eagle owl & a Steppe Eagle, huge birds and just fantastic up close & personal. But I also did a walk for about an hour with a Harris Hawk through the grounds which are stunning because they are so natural, accompanied by Sophie who is the owner & falconer. She is very knowledgeable, professional with a very engaging personality. If you like birds of prey I cannot recommend this experince highly enough.A truly memorable 60th birthday.
