The hotel was hot, bedding and rooms were dirty and tired. The staff were stroppy unhelpful and ignored customers. Both days I stayed ( I couldn't stay a second night) .the hotel had weddings attended by scruffy chavs that made an already poor hotel unbearable. Overall the one redeeming feature was the location close to the beach.

We often go to Bournemouth for the weekend with our little ones, (ages 7 and 5), but usually stay on the West Cliff. We've always been worried that the walk into town for our evening meal from the East Cliff would be too far, but in fact it was a very nice walk along the cliff top. The hotel seems to have quite a few family rooms, which is a bonus, […] and was perfectly adequate. The bedroom was large, and although only half the room can watch tv in bed, it all worked out well. The bathroom needed some TLC, and smelt badly of smoke, but that's to do with previous guests' bad manners rather than the hotel. 1. On the morning of our arrival, I rang the hotel to advise them that it could be as late as 10pm when we would arrive. The woman I spoke to was not at all grateful that I had gone to that trouble to forewarn them, just very matter of fact and unfriendly. 2. In our room there was literally tea & coffee making facilities- but nothing else. For medical […] reasons my wife and I are not allowed to drink anything that has caffeine in it. There was no decaffinated tea or coffee or anything else. Next morning I asked at reception and was promised they would get some decaffinated coffee put in our room. NONE ever arrived! At breakfast, again there was no decaffinated hot drinks, and was told the kitchen did not have any. Next day exactly the same, - my wife and I weren't able to have a single hot drink at breakfast or inour own rooms for the whole 2 days we were there!! 3. Whilst the bedroom was fine, the bathroom was in bad need of a refurb. The basin had no grill/cover over the plug-hole and the whole bathroom suite looked very tired. Whilst we were given one small shower gel, shampoo and body lotion to last us both for the two days, there was no soap for use when just washing our hands. Overall a most disappointing experience - we got to Bournemouth at least 6 times a year to visit our son, and stay in local hotels. This was our first visit to this hotel, and unless there is a huge improvement in attitudes and care for the paying guests, it will certainly be our last. Read more

Generally hotel was fine and bedroom was clean. Staff very informal but at least friendly. Only issue was breakfast... told on arrival that breakfast was served until 9.30... (this information was also displayed outside the Restaurant). We arrived at 9.15 purposefully to avoid a large coach group the hotel clearly had staying, so as to have a relaxing […] breakfast which was not over-crowded. After having cereal etc, and struggling to get milk from the empty milk dispenser and then trying to serve ourselves extremely disappointing and COLD tea and coffee we proceeded to go up to the buffet for our cooked breakfast but were instead greeted by no plates, no toast and even worse a waiter taking all the cooked breakfast back to the kitchen (by now it was only 9.25... and remember you could, in theory, come down for breakfast up until 9.30). We asked the waiter just to leave it for a couple more minutes so we could help ourselves, he outright refused and said the breakfast finished at 9.30. For one the time was actually now 9.27 and two his rudeness and attitude were appalling!!! We asked to see the Duty Manager and the waiter still continued to take the buffet away. The Manager's response was good, if not a little defensive, but very proactive and just about saved what could have been a breakfast nightmare! Lovely big room - a suite - which we hadn't specified; loads of room, wardrobe and drawer space, 4 chairs to sit in, etc. Absolutely delighted to get such a great room to stay in. Meals were good - liked the self-service method, and the "take as much as you like" philosophy. Only minor complaint was that on two of the 4 days of stay, the menu displayed […] outside the dining room had not been changed to the current day - still showing yesterday's dinner choices1 This meant it was difficult to know, when going out at say 2.30pm, whether to eat out or come back to the hotel for dinner (as only booked as B&B). Never did find the outdoor heated swimming pool advertised in website - was this the pond in the front garden during a previous life? Also the websites gave differing info about the car parking - at least one stating this was complimentary, whilst at least one other said it costs £3 per day. Due to this discrepancy being pointed out on arrival, we were not charged, but a consistent approach should be advertised on line (although I think charging paying guests for parking their cars is a bit greedy!). I stayed at the Heathlands many times in the eighties and early nineties when it was one of the best run independant hotels in Bournemouth and very popular. I was keen to try it now it was part of the Britannia chain. I wasn't very impressed. I arrived at 2.40pm and didn't get into my room until 4pm. The room lacked, (1) a mirror in the bathroom(20 […] a shaver socket(3) any sort of bedside table or cabinet. It was, I will admit, in good decorative condition and clean. The dining room was a bit overstocked with furniture which made it difficult to manouve carrying hot plates from the buffet breakfast and dinner. The food was fair but the buffet needed to be supervised more closely as crockery would be in short supply in busy periods and the food would run out with nobody to ask to bring fresh supplies. I wouldn't stay there again as it wasn't particularly cheap in comparison with hotels around it and remembering how it used to be run it was a bit depressing. Read more

They were having problems with the heating and the hot water, not surprising on the coldest day of the year, we were asked to wait whilst a member of staff checked the room's, they did not have an equivalent room so we were up graded as it was there fought. The problem was sorted out simply and quickly its a morning the Cliffside hotel on the 3rd Jan […] did not see the water leak which woke us up in the early hours of the morning as it dripped its way down from the ceiling to the window seeland then on to the floor soaked everything in its way, the Knight Porter when I woke him up, told me he could not move us and we would have to wait until the staff arrived in the morning so we were left in the same room till the morning. When I went down in the morning and spoke to the staff they had not been told that a problem had occurred during the Knight. When I asked them what they were going to do about this they told me that I booked by Expedia and Expedia would have to sort out it out. So please would you sort this out for me. My stay was between the 3-6 January 2012. I have stayed in some of your other hotels in the past few months and the treatment of the management and the rest of the staff was very poor. We arrived at the hotel at 5.30ish and the lounge were full of elderly people wairing for their evening meal. This with the smell of dinner cooking gave us an overall feel of a rest home!! We were allocated a room on the third floor and were advised that the lift to the floor wasn't working which wasn't a problem for us. However when we got into the […] room it seemed as though it hadn't been cleaned and on further investigation it appeared that it was still being used, as a card in the room stated that the departure date of the previous occupiers was the day after we arrived!!! I went back to reception and we were allocated another room on the 3rd floor. This room had been cleaned but the cleaner had not emptied the bin in the bedroom which contained empty milk & coffee sachets.(but at least the previous occupants had left and the sheets and towels were clean!!!) Overall the hote was clean but in need of modernising in places. Had we paid the full price for this hotel I would not have been impressed and as we were only using it as a stopover before getting a ferry it was adequate for the price paid. Read more
