We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few years and the warmth of welcome from staff who greet us personally by name is very much appreciated. Food is always good and our room, whilst a little tired, is very comfortable.

The Hotel was in the middle of Braintree but we were not bothered by traffic noise. The room was clean, bed comfortable. Bars and restaurant very busy.

First the negative - the hotel is badly in need of some love and attention - it looks tired and a bit scruffy in places but apparently it is due for a refurbishment this year so hopefully it will be sympathetically enhanced. There is a great choice of food which was very reasonably priced and the inclusive breakfast was great with excellent choices and all served quickly. A nice traditional hotel, right in the centre of Braintree. The original coach house is charming but some of the hotel accomodation is dated, with noisy heating and erratic plumbing. However, the staff were pleasant and helpful and the rooms were inexpensive.

I have stayed at the Whitehart before as it is convenient when visiting my brother-in-law and the first visit was much better than the second. The Olde English Inns chain is on of consistent good standards and value for money. This is no exception. Good central location for Braintree and the town is a good location for other locations in Essex. The hotel has a large car park and bar/restaurant area. Our room was very clean but rather cramped with the chair bed open. My son is 6ft. tall and it was not really appropiate for an adult !The bathroom left much to be desired; tiny with an antique toilet which was hard to flush and was also in need of a complete redecoration. Service and food were very good. Our room was small but comfortable and soooo quaint. Piping hot water for a bath and a good working shower. Tray for tea/coffee including biscuits. Only comment was the room was very dark but as its so old its to be expected, maybe a better lamp on the dressing table would be handy.

I was expecting Frank and Hilda the landlords to greet me at the bar and check me in to a basic room that met all the basic needs, before going downstairs for some usual pub grub and a pint. A no frills alternative to a big anonymous chain hotel. BIG MISTAKE. The easy to find location, free car park at the rear made a promising start. The dedicated […] hotel reception and very professional service started to tell me things were more than i was expecting. The room was well specced and just what i needed. The bar was modern, and relaxing with large sofas. The bar service was again that perfect blend of professional mixed with a smile and the food was ok, nothing spectacular but was exactly what i ordered and arrived in a good time. The only criticism i can say is to do with the room. I overlooked the very appealing outside table area so given it was humid i opened the window. This let in the smell from smokers below. The bed was comfy and no complaints. The breakfast was another delight of this hotel. The breakfast was included in the price and i was greeted by yet again more perfected blend of customer facing staff. A menu of breakfast choice was presented, more typical of 4 or 5 star hotels and it arrived well cooked. I left soon after breakfast. As it stands the quality of service, the overall quality of stay and for me the exceptional staff make this a hidden gem of a hotel that would give any local Hilton or Marriott an early morning wake up call. The hotel staff were all very friendly. Upon arrival the keys for the room we had been allocated had been taken by a previous occupant so we were upgraded to another room. The food in the bar/restaurant was lovely and the breakfast was excellent.

Nice staff, very friendly. Was only there for the one night so didn't have the opportunity to check out the neighbourhood. Only negative comment is that the plumbing in the bathroom seemed a little out-dated. Had to run the cold tap for a long time before the water ran cold for the kettle. But apart from this, everything else was fine.

I stayed in the hotel in December for three nights. The room was exactly as I excepted, having a nice historical touch. However, the room was way too cold (had to keep the air heater on full all the time). In addition, the music form the ground floor "ball room" could be easily heard during the week end nights.

Central location is hard to beat, hotel consists of an old coaching inn that is rather pretty, coupled with a 1950 concrete tower block style 4 odd story building that is not pretty! Free parking was handy but watch out for fairly complex one way system. sadly the rooms feel dated, although there is not a lot that can be done with the size of bathrooms […] they could at least be updated a bit. I had a very pleasant stay at White Hart Braintree. I met very nice staff, the room was fine and the breakfast was good. Only minor thing - I arrived late and had problems with coming in. Please notice that they close the reception at 11 pm.

Very good. The food was excellent, especially the fish and chips. The hotel was a bit old fashioned but that was part of the charm. We will certainly stay there again and the staff made everyone feel very welcome.The service was superb. Brantree is a charming town. This hotel can be highly recommended.
