"Great choice!"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
Price and location were right. Grounds and maintainance inside and out were above average....flowers blooming everywhere! Front desk friendly and efficient. Room spacious and well appointed with 2 Q beds and new, big, flat screen TV (room 301). Towels were not lush, but there were 4 of them, so no issues!

"2 nights in Vancouver."Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
Hotel was very clean and new. Hotel is in middle of Chinatown so you won't see many chain restaurants or food other than very traditional Asian.

"Excellent"
I enjoy staying at the hotel. It is not expensive. It is not far from Vancouver down town. Free parking and breakfast.

"OK Remodel"
We have stayed at a lot of nice hotels, old and new. This was an older building that was remodeled on a budget. There was some effort made to modernize. The staff was good and service was excellent. Free parking, a basket of fresh fruit at arrival, r/c ceiling fan, r/c a/c heating was nice. Not enough electric outlets. All rooms are a 2nd story walk […] up with no elevator. Furnishings were nice. Bathroom was small. Complimentary breakfast was ok. Read more
"A Deceptive Delight"
The outside appearance of this establishment leaves one questioning if the correct decision to stay there was correct. Once one steps through the entrance all qualms disappear. The staff is wonderful. The amenities were everything that we wanted and more. The decor is beautiful and tasteful. A connected restuarant/pub was excellent. A conveince store […] was also available. The only negative to be aware of is that there is no elevator available which may be a problem for some. Since our stay was in December, we did not notice if there was any air conditioning available. As part of a 7000 mile road trip, this was one of overall nicest establishments that we stayed in. Read more
"Very comfortable business hotel"
I was working in Burnaby and needed a place nearby to stay. This was perfect. Free parking, free wireless internet, very comfortable rooms and beds, in a very well-maintained hotel. The decor is a little funky, but all of the furnishings are very nice. The continental breakfast was a step up from the norm. There were a few cooked items: eggs, sausage, […] waffles, in addition to the standard fare. I wouldn't choose this neighborhood (or anywhere in Burnaby really) if I were visiting on vacation, as there's more to do in Vancouver, but if Burnaby is where you need to stay, this is a great place. "Staff person/fantastic -- Room so-so"
Our first room had no reading chair, so the attendent moved us to a better room for our needs. However, the bed was very hard and the lighting really too weak for reading. The staff person was gracious and great: she taught us how to use the safe, moved us willingly, gave us advise, and was super nice. Also, when we forgot to take items from the safe […] and had to return to get them, she had a key ready when we walked in. Undoubtedly, she was the best host we have every had -- and we have been around the world, living overseas for a number of years. Also, the breakfast setup and location was great. Read more
"Nice hotel"
Stayed for 5 nights. Rooms were clean and staff were very friendly and polite. Also, having the hotel connected to the pub next door was great for a quick meal or drink. Great experience overall.
My wife and I stayed in this hotel for two nights during our vacation. We thought this was a well managed hotel. The room we had had hard wood floor and smelled fresh. The assistants were generally friendly and helpful. The hotel provided complimentary breakfast and the food was quite good. We had minor problem tho. Our room was above a restaurant and […] the kitchen fan made some noise overnight. Overall it was well worth the money we paid. Read more
"Great pleasant staty"
I must say the hotel staff was very welcoming from the moment we arrived. Allen at the front desk was very courteous and welcoming when we arrived. He even helped us with our luggage. Then we entered our room and it was very clean. We were traveling with our daughter so it was nice to have microwave and refrigerator in the room. They also had a lundary […] on the same floor. We also had room service and I enjoyed the food. Overall the front staff was great and i really had a great stay here. Read more
Great value, great service....and best of all about 300 feet from a Starbucks.
"Howard Johnson in Burnaby - excellent"
I didn't expect Howard Johnson hotel to be such a plush experience. Outside it looks... not very promising and there is a liquor store in the same building, but once you are inside, it's a different world. From a fruit basket and a welcome note to our departure, this was a marvelous stay. The hotel is on Hastings street with a lot of restaurants within […] 3-5 minutes. It's close enough to Vancouver to avoid paying Vancouver prices and be able to go there every day. In addition to a very nice spacious room (we had two queen beds), the staff was very nice, very helpful. Breakfast was the usual continental stuff - eggs, sausage, toast, fruit, yogurt, waffles, coffee, tea - not bad and everything was fresh. I was a bit nervous when I booked it, but it was great. "great stay"
This hotel was perfect for our one week stay. The street the hotel was on led into downtown Vancouver. There were plenty of stores and places to eat within walking distance as well. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful.
"Howard Johnson hotel"
very clean, nice welcome basket of friut and water, staff was friendly and good with local directions and bus info.good breakfast.
"PNE stay"
For the money I would highly reccomend this hotel. The place was clean, the service excellent and they had a very nice breakfast to boot. The bus downtown was very easy to catch and saved the hassle of parking. It looks very simple from the outside but was totaly remodeled on the inside. We had a great time!
"very nice boutique hotel"
great little boutique hotel. Very clean, staff very helpful. Great breakfast. Drawbacks: questionable neighborhood, no elevator, no air condition.
"Howard Johnson North Burnabys Boutique Hotel"
I arrived to the hotel and found the front desk empty. They had a phone sitting on the desk with a note that essentially told us to buzz the staff with the "locator" button on the phone. We did...twice...and no one came to check us in. We even resorted to calling the hotel to request assistance. However, no one answered the phone. After roughly 10 minutes […] of waiting, we finally were able to check in. The hotel room itself was nice enough with hardwood floors, a large flat screen tv, and comfy beds. However, the shower had hair in it, and the sink had crusty gunk surrounding the faucet. About three blocks up from our hotel was a stretch of area I can only discribe as the ghetto. Many homeless people and other degenerates surrounded the area at all hours of the day and night. If I had to do it over again, I would have stayed in a hotel in downtown Vancouver. We could have walked everywhere without risking attack by a drug addict. Read more
Nice hotel.Everything looks new.Good continental breakfast. The only disadvantige is noisy street and really small room.Wouldn't recommend to stay with the kids.
"Really clean hotel"
Pros: Very Clean room. Floors are linoleum instead of carpets. Beds are bigger than usual. They gave us fruit basket when we checked in. Excellent breakfast. Served pastries, eggs, waffles, etc. Cons: Tiny bathroom. Still quite a drive to downtown. No elevator.
"Good price and comfort room"
Except the smelling of the hallway old carpet and the inconvenient stair way. Everything else is good.
"Great hotel!!"
We had a 2 bed room, and although the room was barely bigger than the beds, it was done in such a way that it was quite functional, with a half-depth dresser and desk, a nice fridge and microwave. Beds were very comfy, with both hard and soft pillows, and ironed linens even on the duvey cover. The floors were hardwood, which felt much cleaner than carpeting. […] The bathroom was small but also very funcitonal. Air conditioning was quiet and functional. Fruit basket, bottled water, and breakfast were both plentiful and delicious. Staff is fabulous...very helpful. Biggest complaints were: 1) that the bathroom had no air movement, so when you closed the door it felt very warm and airless and 2) the edges of the wooden bedframe stuck out beyond the edge of the bed and both me and my partner stubbed our shins a couple of times rounding the bend of the bed. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely book at this hotel again. The neighborhing community was safe and quiet. We walked several blocks to the Safeway at 10pm, without concern. Don't forget that there's no elevator, and the parking is not right up against the building (but there is 5 minute loading zone so it's easy to unload, park, and return). Read more

"Good deal for the money"
Good clean room and bathroom. Breakfast: they had the usual choice as any other inn. Very friendly folks at the front desk, they gave fruits as soon as I checked in, I was able to use the gym pass as well. The hotel provides parking space which is just behind the hotel. Lots of restaurants and coffee place around the hotel. Well connected by buses that […] can take you to the larger downtown and china town area. Read more
"boutique hotel in North Burnabys, BC, Canada"
I especially like the tile floor instead of carpet in the room. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The room is clean.
"Outstanding breakfast"
Don't let the outside deter you--this little place has been redone with style. The breakfast they offer is amazing, with eggs, sausage, muffins and cereal in a true dinning facility. The bathroom was very clean in spite of its small size. Located just outside the sketchy part of Vancouver, the surrounding neighborhood is picturesque and felt safe. The […] only warning is that there is no elevator so you have to carry your bags up to your room. Read more

"Overall nice place for a good price"
My daughter and I stayed here on a Saturday night. Overall we were very pleased with the hotel. The front desk staff were very helpful and provided a great recommendation for dinner (Anton's Pasta Bar). The room was a nice size, the bed was comfortable, and all the areas we saw were clean. My only complaint was the A/C system; I never could get it to […] effectively blow cool air. The remote control seemed a bit complex and I couldn't understand the instructions provided. Read more
"Mari, the evening clerk"
One of the best parts of staying at the facility was the outstanding service I received from the evening desk clerk, Mari. She was so professional and went way above and beyond the call of duty to be helpful to me. Other hotel employees were also very nice and courteous but Mari truly stands out in my mind. She needs to be kicked up the hotel heierarchy […] as she is a great asset in this facility and would do extremely well in customer service at a much higher level! Read more

"not a great area"
old hotel over a pub and liquor store. not the greatest area but decent for the price. no elevator so travel light.
"Howard Johnsons North Burnaby"
We enjoyed our stay here, the staff was very helpful and gave us great ideas for things to see and do. I like the room decor and there was a complimentary breakfast.
"Howard Johnson North Burnabys Boutique Hotel"
Exceeded my expectations. Didn't expect much from a Howard Johnson hotel, but this one was much nicer that any other HoJo I stayed in. Hardwood floors, flatscreen TV, modern looking rooms, comfy bed, free parking, free breakfast. What not to like? Customer service was top notch also, receptionist brought in a free basket with fruit up to our room right […] after checking in. Don't get me wrong it is not a 5-star hotel but for the price I was very happy. The only downside is that it's about a 10-15 min drive into downtown. Read more

"The remodeled rooms are great"
My room had been recently remodeled and was good except it had no closet. Traveling companion's room was poor in comparison.
"Home away from home"
I can say that this hotel met or exceeded all my expectations. I was concerned due to the fact that there was an adjacent pub and I thought the noise would filter up to the rooms but that was not the case, at least in my room. The staff is very friendly and informative whenever I had questions about where to eat, places to go, things to see. And the […] adjacent pub is a great place to eat, and quite convenient. The complimentary breakfast, while always the same choices, had quite a variety- cold and hot cereal, yogurt, danish pastries, bagels, toast, waffles, scrambled eggs and sausages. As well as hot tea, coffee, milk, juice. The room was clean and well maintained. I think the hotel must have been renovated recently since it is an older building but the rooms looked new. A nice hot shower in the morning was always available, something that I can't say about all the hotels I've stayed in. Read more

5 star service at 3 star pricing. This hotel has very friendly staff and clean.
"Great little hotel in Burnaby"
Nice little room, small but comfortable and well furnished. Great service, friendly staff.
"HoJo - Burnaby, BC"
I had an extended stay (nearly two weeks) at this hotel and was thoroughly satisfied. The price was good, much less than downtown Vancouver hotels and it was a short drive to downtown. The staff was courteous and accommodating, the rooms were clean, quiet and had a good size. This is a great hotel if you want to get away for some peace and quiet, but […] probably not if you have kids who want to play in the pool (there is no pool or kids area). The surrounding area has wonderful restaurants, both local and national chains, and it's a short walk to the P&E grounds. There is no handicapped accommodations (no elevator, etc.), however. The continental breakfast was included and nice in the adjoining restaurant on the first floor. All rooms are nonsmoking with laminate flooring, so make sure you pack slippers or house shoes. All-in-all, I found this hotel to be perfect for my stay. Read more
"Great Hotel"
This hotel worked out well for us. The staff was very friendly and helpful...they actually showed us to our room (I can't remember the last time I stayed someplace where they do that) and gave us a welcome fruit basket. The room was very pretty and comfortable. It was quite small though and often seemed to pick up smells from the pub below. Openning […] up the window cleared out the smell quickly. Breakfast was OK, not a large selection but plenty of space to sit and move around. The neighborhood had lots of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, but I am not sure I would feel comfortable walking around by myself in the evening. Read more
