Ah Hotel - Santiago

The location is convenient in terms of transportation, and the Central market. The neighbourhood is not the poshest, although to the areaa to the east improves. The room has been renovated with good plumbing fixtures. There was no cable TV, only local station which did not come in so well. The breakfast was OK. Overall, a good value.

Breakfast leaves lots to be desired, there is no wireless internet in the rooms (restricted to cable connection), the tub leaks, and some walls show signs of humidity. Other than that, the rooms have a lot of space which is great, the staff is very friendly, and the location is phenomenal for both tourists and business travelers.

Within walking distance of all the main attractions of the city. . .but also across the street from a "park" that the man at the front desk said to stay away from at night. It is a old horel so there is chip paint and water damages on the ceiling. However, it is clean and the service is friendly. Location is great. There is a fish market near by so you can have great sea food with cheap price. We stayed for 2 nights and that is all you need to see the surraounfing area.

I recently spent two weeks staying in the AH Hotel. This was my first experience in Chile, and the hotel accommodations could not have been any better for this milestone trip. As a US citizen who barely speaks any Spanish, I was worried about communication issues with the hotel staff. My concerns were immediately alleviated when I called the hotel […] and spoke with Douglas, one of the staff. He speaks fluent English, and apparently he used to work on cruise ships. I'm guessing he had years of experience in customer service, because he was very helpful and professional. During my stay at the AH Hotel, Douglas was the staff member I spoke to the most, and he always went out of his way to resolve my requests. The rest of the staff was also quite friendly - always willing to give a friendly smile and "Buenos días" in the morning, and offer help in English (as best as they could). The room itself was quaint, clean, and comfortable. The hotel offers cabled broadband with the room, which was important to me since I was traveling on business and needed to do work. The location is great. The hotel is within a 5-10 minute walk from Bellas Artes subway station and at least 1 other station. It's also a short walk away from a couple of markets, restaurants, a museum, and plenty of other places. The only complaint I can think of is the shower's design. The hotel has the types of showers that don't have a closing door or curtains; hard to explain, but it's a design I've encountered in other hotels. It requires you to place a towel at the opening of the shower to prevent puddles forming on the bathroom floor. All things considered, if my only complaint about the hotel is shower puddles, I'd say the hotel is quite good indeed. Friendly staff, comfortable room, broadband connection, convenient location - all of these things made my stay at the AH Hotel top notch. Read more

This is a very small hotel that is fairly new and doesn´t show up in the guidebooks. (I am sure it will as they go through their updating in the future.) It is close to metro stations so getting around Santiago was no problem. The Mercado Central is one block up and has some amazing restaurants that are fun just to look at. AH Hotel was much better than we expected. We arrived early in the morning an were checked in immediately, which was great since we had flown all night. The hotel is quite basic and took me back to country hotels that I stayed at many years ago in Australia. Position would have to be 5 stars plus in this city, close to the third largest fresh food market in the world and the most unbelievable shopping in the central business district where just about every building has a shopping plaza at street level […] as part of its structure. Staff were exceptional in their attention and made you feel welcome. Hi Fi is limited to the ground floor but internet is in all rooms. No lifts and the spiral staircase would not suit those with limited mobility. The kitchenette was very small in our junior suite but is more open planned in the larger suites with two rooms, ask for a microwave if you require it. Noise could be an issue for some light sleepers as the sound proofing of the doors is poor and guests entering or leaving at all hours along with the front door bell for controlled access could be clearly heard. The mattresses were very comfortable along with the pillows. For the price and location it is good value and we enjoyed our stay there. Read more

The good points of this hotel are that it is well placed to see the sights, close to the beaux artes museo and the plaza de armes and other tourist sights. We also appreciated having breakfast provided. The not so good points were: the breakfast wasn't very exciting, just bread and shop bought cake and no proper coffee. The room we had was spacious and quiet as it was at the back of the hotel however it was rather dark without any view. The only other comment I would make is that it was difficult to find nice restaurants to eat in in the evening, the area seem to close up at 8 o clock, we ended up by going to a Peruvian restaurant 2 nights running as there didn't seem to be many other places to choose from. If you are looking for high end, you are in the wrong place. Having said that, there is nothing wrong with the place. It's basic, but the price matches. I did hear the barking dogs on a couple of nights, but not much you can do. One has to press the bell to get into the hotel, but all in the cause of security, no elevator, but the only real minus was […] the fact that all rooms fronted directly into the stairwell, so every conversation by every guest was audible, even from the rooms if it was on your floor. It is located a couple of blocks from the market and Plaza de Armas, so you feel the city life. If you want the high end, Marriott, Intercontinental and Sheraton,be ready for a lengthy cab ride. The most important mall in South America is near the Marriott, I think the guide said, but I live in a large North American city, so have no need to travel several thousand miles to look at a shopping mall.
