"Pleasant hotel just outside downtown Kilkenny"
This was a very clean, pleasant little hotel a few minutes' drive from the main streets of Kilkenny. The owner works the front desk and was courteous, helpful and patient in giving us directions and advice. There's also a nice, quiet hotel bar available, if you're into that kind of thing. The complimentary breakfast was good, but nothing to write home […] about. The only real problem we had was that our bathroom door did not fully close, which did not bother us too much. A big thank you to the proprietor -- I'd definitely come back. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Overnight stay with my wife"
A little bit far out of town but comfortable and good value for money. Very good breakfast.Genuine Expedia guest review
Hotel very run down and dirty. Water in shower alternated super hot and ice cold every few seconds. Breakfast was bland and not very appatizing. They could not pay me to stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Ted the owner was a great guy. As soon as we got there he spent time showing us a map and telling us where the good restaurants were, which ones offered free traditional music and when. We had an issue with another guest being too loud and Ted resolved that right away. We spent two nights here. Great location just out of the city so it wasn't loud. […] Great breakfast too! Nothing fancy, but clean and quiet. Innkepper helpful. Wireless only available in lobby.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The owner seems to be all on his own, and a bit stretched thin. He seemed very nice, if frantic. The interior is charming, if very dark. The lack of elevator is understandable in such an old building, though difficult with heavy bags and steep stairs. The laminate floors turned our socks a bit black from a lack of sweeping, but the bathrooms were in […] decent condition. The lack of screens on the windows of Ireland meant a lot of moths in the bath, whose window had to remain open to get the damp air out. It was a short drive into town, but the area was not one for taking a stroll. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A little disappointed"
Upon check in I was told I had to pay and extra 25 Euros to have my daughter stay in the room ,which I had previously booked many months in advance. I specifically booked a room with three beds which apparently wasn't included in the price I paid? The front desk clerk, possibly the owner said he uses his discretion when renting rooms. He didn't want […] some guests disturbing others and since we were a family it was fine we took the room at the added expense. He also advised us the attached bar served light food until around 2200 hrs. He arrived shortly after 1900 hrs and there was no food served. On a positive, there was a nice breakfast included. "Acceptable for the price but not a special find"
The TV remote did not work and the TV was not reachable without standing on a chair. You have to move the furniture to find a plug. The beds were comfortable but we had purchased a queen and got a double. It is located a 20 minute walk from the centre of town but reasonably priced.Genuine Expedia guest review
"great value, but lonely spot"
hotel and bar were empty, if you are on your own and want atmosphere go elsewhere. Cannot fault facilities or staff but won't be rushing back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Value for money"
Good if you have a car. Free parkingspots in the city after 6pm. Nice breakfast, didn´t miss anything. Cleanliness wasn´t to good. No loud neighborhood. 30€ for every hour you check out later! Expensive late-checkout!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is not hard to find and is in a quiet location. The rooms are small and pedestrian at best. More costly than the comfort provided.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location, lovely staff"
Just a few minutes outside Kilkenny City, greeted warmly on arrival! Staff are really nice, breakfast was lovely and bar downstairs very friendly! Had a lovely stay, will be back again!Genuine Expedia guest review
"very comfy hotel"
When we arrived and checked in we could only use debit card or cash, no credit cards. Lovely room, comfiest bed ever . We were on second floor and as there is no lift we had to haul luggage up two flights of stairs. Not great if you have health issues. There is a lovely homely bar in the hotel but though the room info says there is barfood available […] , there isn't. Breakfast is continental and served in a roomy dining room. Overall we would stay again but it does lack luxury. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

very nice stay and found the owner Ted as we were told to call him very helpfull and will stay again in near future.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We used the hotel for an overnight stay on our route to the ferry port. The owner was extremely helpful providing a ground floor room for my 87 year old mother. Although not serving dinner the hotel provided a list of recommended restaurants in the town centre. Breakfast was opened early for us on the Saturday morning with an excellent selection of […] food. The hotel service was excellent. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This Hotel is out of town, therefor your own transourt is a must. Plenty of parking available. They dont seem to turn on lights much at all there, Hotel is quite dark inside.Breakfast was served in cold and dark restaurant, NO lighting on whatsoever, no heating on in the restaurant either. Totally lacking atmosphere of any description. The Restaurant was […] closed so any traveller requiring food would be better to find a local restaurant in City or surrounding area. The Bedroom itself was small but warm, comfortable enough.Staff x3. "Kilkenny House Hotel - genuine value for money"
I spent three nights at the Kilkenny House Hotel, and I would move in here if I could! I'd never been to Ireland before (let alone the town of Kilkenny), and I was treated like a princess from the moment I walked through the door. It's a family-run hotel, and Ted (the patriarch) greeted me upon arrival. He was friendly and hugely helpful. He told me […] about the amenities, the breakfast schedule, and he even told me about an economics/comedy festival going on in town that weekend. I have been taken care of, 100%, and I would absolutely return. Thank you. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kilkenny House hotel"
Hotel very quiet, heating not switched on through the day, and lookedand felt like trying to save money. Bar not open on Thursday night, ( our arrival date). Breakfast was continental Mon - Sat ( but you could also have fried or boiled eggs) , with a full Irish breakfast only available on Sunday. Owner was very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Kilkenny House - a great hotel"
the rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. Basil and Manuel are hilarious, they had us laughing so much our sides were aching. Great value in the restaurant and the breakfast was terrific - it only advertised a continential breakfast but there was so much more including eggs on toast. If you want a clean comfy room and be looked after by great staff […] - stay here.

Booked the hotel and was unable to go due to a car crash they didnt answer the phone for the 2 days so we were unable to actually cancle it and when we finally got through to the hotel the manager was an absolute pig about it even though it was their fault we couldnt cancle it and they still charged us the full price for the room. He handled the situation terribly and I will never book there ever again
"Not value for money"

My husband and I visited the hotel last weekend for a family reunion in the area. Upon arrival, the reception was empty so we had to ring using the phone for attendance. We paid upfront 119 euro which I suppose didn't matter. We were told we would get an above average room and a nice breakfast. The room was far from nice- under the bed was filthy, the bathroom had rust marks on the taps and walls and overall the decor was extremely dated. There was a cigarette burn on the quilt cover. The breakfast was barely warm and the attendant wasn't at all friendly. At one point when I was PUTTING ON MY OWN TOAST (because what was there was unacceptable), the owner proceeded to HAND ME the cold toast that was already there, which I refused. Overall I would highly recommend against anybody visiting this, what can only be referred to as, an overpriced below B&B level hotel. Not value for money!
Stayed in a twin room. Spotlessly clean with continental breakfast and wifi throughout. The owner Ted was extremely helpful. The location was ideal for us as it had a large carpark and away from the bustle of the city but still in walking distance. 50 euro for bed and breakfast for 2 people is extremely good value.
"A Decent Place."
09/06/14 joe f Dublin, Ireland
We booked a twin and a single and the place was clean, easy to find and the sights were not too far a drive ie a few minutes. Continental breakfast, clean rooms, a very hard working owner-operator and a very reasonable price.
"Hotel is ok"
Stayed here for 3 nights. No elevator. Hotel was ok. Not a great location. But cab rides were a flat fee. Rooms were clean. It was an extra 100 euro for one extra person in a room, room was a double bed and a single. Seemed a bit ridiculous if you ask me. Breakfast was nothing special and the breakfast hours are terrible. Front desk is not available 24/7. We ran into complications as we had a bus to catch at 8 am and a cab was gonna be 30 minutes. Called the owner and he was no help. Thankfully someone walked in and was able to call another cab company for us! I probably wouldn't stay here again as it ended up costing more than we thought to begin with!
"Never got to find out also"

Distressing experience. Owner Ted's behaviour was totally irrational, aggressive and unwelcoming. I had booked in advanced. When I arrived Ted was stalking then car park. I wondered was he looking for the two Euro charge that was sign posted everywhere. He eventually went inside. When I got to reception he was closing door, turning on and off lights. The place seemed empty, like no one had stayed there for years. Dark reception area. I didn't feel safe. The owner refused to allow me to stay because I requested an early breakfast. He said I wasn't welcome to stay and Ii was to leave. Totally irrational. I'm still find the mans behaviour hard to fathom. Really ungentlemanly to turn a lady onto the street without any regard for safety or if they had anywhere else to stay. I couldn't recommend this hotel. I would especially advise against for solo travellers, especially female. Not safe.

I booked this hotel a few weeks back for one night just to have somewhere to stay after a work do in Kilkenny. It took me close to 40 minutes to get from one side of Kilkenny to the hotel because of road works. When I arrived at the hotel I was told the owner had overbooked for the weekend and there was no room available for me so they had booked me into the Kilford Arms Hotel instead for the same price. The guy at reception was very apologetic and I felt sorry for him as he was obviously the scapegoat that was left to do the dirty work. Why they couldn't have rung me to let me know, I don't know. It would have saved a lot of hassle for both parties. It took me another 35 minutes to get back across town! I'd advise people to ring ahead to confirm their booking to avoid this happening to you. Just to note too - this hotel is further outside Kilkenny than their website states. I'd imagine it's a good 40/45 minute walk to the the centre.

If you are on a budget then this hotel is perfect. Staff on reception were friendly. Rooms were clean but basic. Beds are very comfortable. Breakfast was terrible, limited time to actually get it and its only continental during the week. The girl serving breakfast was very rude and walked off mid sentence when I spoke to her asking for hot milk. You felt like you were being a nuisance. Very poor selection really so don't expect much. Same girl who was serving breakfast was later cleaning the rooms and again was quite rude when I spoke to her to say we would not be out of our rooms until check out time. (She had gone into 1 of the rooms to start cleaning) Free parking for hotel guests.

Hotel is is in quiet area, so no problems with noise, room was spacious excellent shower.Would definitely stay here again.
