City Park Hotel - Nijmegen

I was looking forward to this hotel based on reviews, albiet with the usual concern about small city center hotels in Europe. I checked in, dropped my bags after lugging them up two flights of stairs, then went out to eat. After I came back, I then noticed the smell. It was just old, dirty carpet. The linens were clean, the bathroom fairly clean and […] apparently recently renovated, but the rest was just not right. It looked like someone just comes in and changes the linens and cleans the bathroom, but that's it. Dust bunnies on the headboard were a sure sign of this lack of overall cleaning. The nasty carpet smell gave way to cigarette smoke coming in under the door. I gave it a chance, but then checked out the next morning. Th towels were tattered and thin, so thin that I use better towels to dry off my car. The notebook in the room had some commentary about "we have listened to what you want and renovated the place." I don't personally care if the place is outdated, I'm used to that in foreign hotels, I just want it clean. I never write reviews, but it seems that If people are basing their decisions on this, they need the real truth, I was expecting that, not just a bunch of reviews that were probably written by friends of an establishment. The heating did not work and it was rather could. The very small room was on the 3rd floor, accecable by a steep staircase. The luggage was brought up by a young lady however, while a young man stayed downstairs. Everything was nice and clean and the kitchen was excellent while on the more expensif side. Great location and the front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was typical European food: bread, meat, cheeses, yogurt, granola. The hotel isn't fancy, but worked for us.

Les chambres en standard sont simples, le confort relativement sommaire, et les chambres peu isolées (étouffant en été). Mais les propriétaires sont très gentils, le petit-déjeuner très complet pour le prix: fruits frais, pains divers, charcuteries, fromages, yaourts, oeufs etc. Accès wifi au rdc. Le restaurant portugais (!) au rdc a l'air bien, mais […] un peu trop cher. L'hôtel est situé juste à côté d'un beau parc avec une vue splendide, et à 2 pas du musée Het Valkhof. Le centre est également très accessible. Les bus passent juste en face de l'hôtel. Un marché se tient également juste en face de l'hôtel. Un bon rapport qualité-prix si on est juste de passage (voyage professionnel). Read more
