Staff was the strongest asset to Portee. Very welcoming, helpful and accomodating. Room was tiny, and shower built for an anorexic as no normal sized adult could fit. Neighborhood a little "sketchy" with some seedy bars and several adult book stores nearby. In reality, skip Waterford unless the crystal factory is open, as there is really nothing of […] note there otherwise. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Waterford B & B"
Our family stayed here one night during our trip to Ireland. Our room was comfortable but it had large windows which would not close properly and it got very chilly. The surrounding area was not the nicest, and there was a fire escape right out the window so it made us a bit nervous. Note - no shampoo or soap was provided for the shower so come prepared. […] Also the halls and common areas had a strong cigarette odor, but the bedrooms did not. We had a nice breakfast in the morning, Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Sentralt. Lett å finne."
Hyggelig betjening. De kunne […] like gjerne hatt 3 stjerner.
"Warm Friendly Relaxed"

We stayed here at the weekend and found the staff to be very friendly & helpful and the room was warm and clean. Bed was comfy and breckie was yummy! Its in walking distance to shops, pubs, restaurants, so we just parked the car up in the free carpark for the weekend and walked everywhere. We will be returning without a doubt!

Just back from 2 nights in this guesthouse and had a really enjoyable stay. It has a relaxed atmosphere wit a big common room where we cld help ourselves to a cuppa and chill out. We booked triple room which had 3 single comfy beds. Room had ensuite wit shower. All was clean and tidy. Breakfast was lovely too. The host was very helpful and nothing was a problem.. We were in walking distance of shops and pubs. It was also close to bus and train station. For the budget price we paid we will def go back!!
"Charming and comfortable"

We received a very warm welcome at Portree and were very well looked after during our stay. Anything we asked for, we got. New owner injecting new life and energy into the place! It was buzzing... lots of interesting backpackers from all over Europe staying at the hostel. And our room was clean, warm, bright, with a river view. Quiet location but really close to town too. We will stay again!
"Clean & Comfortable"

We experienced a very homely atmosphere with really helpful staff at Portree. Room was very clean and warm and bed linen smelt lovely and fresh. a nice big comfy lounge at the front of the house with tea/coffee making facilities. 5 minutes walking distance from city centre. free car parking and wifi was also a great bonus.
"Any quality falling away?"

Two of the large letters in the title of the hotel have notably fallen off the outside of the hotel and this may symbolise something internal as well. Always difficult with a 'good value' site in a central city location but the place is simply not sustaining the judgements made in the lead up to an achievement of Tripadvisor recognition in 2012. Of greatest concern to us was the dampness in the walls - with spore formation too. The towel rail fell off and the sense of care felt to be largely absent. On the plus side - the room eventually heated up enough and sheets were clean, but the room was not - dirt clustered in corners of the small room. The breakfast was OK. One sign down the street describes the Portree as a 'hostel'. Pity - with love and care again it could be an interesting hotel.
"Great people and atmosphere"

I spent quite some time in Portree House and i absolutely loved it. Loads of nice family and double rooms and dorms for backpackers as well. I met some great people and made friends with the staff as well. The owner is very easy going and friendly and was happy to help with anything. Very cosy lounge with a dozen new boardgames and you will find everyhing you need in Waterford in walking distance. Definately recommend! :)

Unless you are students on a very tight budget you should avoid. The building is very tired and in need of substantial refurbishment and redecoration. The shower didn't work properly and the bedroom was incredibly tatty with a small old TV but no shampoo, hairdryer or tea/coffee facilities. The bedding was at least clean. Breakfast was chaotic but, when it came, edible.
"Best place in Waterford!"

This is one of the best small town hostels I've ever stayed in. Great staff they really went out of their way to show us a good time. Had such a good time we slept past our check out time but it was all good.
"Basic but clean "

5 friends and I stayed here as we wanted budget accommodation for an overnight stay. It is approximately 10 minutes to Waterford center from here. The area seems ok. The two rooms were very basic, probably needs some maintenance, but was nonetheless clean. I had very little interaction with the staff during my stay, so have no feedback on them. For the low nightly rate we paid, it represented value for the accommodation.

We stayed one night at the Portree Guesthouse as part of trip from town to town in Wales & Ireland. We found the owners extremely welcoming and friendly and they offered helpful tips for what to do in the city. The location is on the edge of central and was a short walk to central Waterford and there was a car park round the back for patrons. A few days later I realised I had lost a jumper and it turned out I had dropped it on the way out of the Portree Guesthouse in the hallway. The owners very kindly sent it on to me back in London free of charge!
