Don't think twice. This place is a little slice of heaven. The rooms are wonderful and atmospheric, the beds soft and spacious, the bath luxurious and inviting. It's a romantic paradise! The breakfast is great, too.

We stayed one night at Le Dodici Lune and it was exactly what we were looking for. It was easy to find as it's right on the main road on the drive in and there's was a free public parking lot very close to the hotel. We had to climb a bit of stairs to get to the hotel, so I suggest you pack decently lightly. The room was very clean and cute! We loved the cave effect but it was still clean and modern enough that you almost forgot you were in a cave. The mattresses were nothing special but not bad. We slept well. You can hear a little bit of what is going on outside but it was never too much. Breakfast was delicious but all sweet breads- which seems to be mostly what Italians eat for breakfast so it makes sense. The hotel isn't in the middle of all the sites, it's a little walk a way, that can be tiring. We liked the location but for someone who doesn't want to walk uphill much, our hotel was before the major incline where all the sites are so it was a little tiring. I would stay here again.

Situated in the heart of Matera, Sassi is close to Sassi, Cathedral of Matera, and San Giovanni Battista Church. Also nearby are Domenico Ridola National Archaeological Museum and Tramontano Castle.

the matera sassi are a sort of dream city of great beauty. this hotel is right in it. travel lightly as you have to climb twisting stone stairways to... get here but definitely worth the hassle. the single rooms are really tiny and i wouldnt advise them if you are tall or portly. they do have drop dead views from window and are steps from the hotel terrace with panoramic vistas. spent second night in a huge jr suite carved out of a cave with soaring ceilings and a combo of typical furnishings of cave dwellers and plastic pop art furniture, liked the big plastic rocker. great buffet breakfast you can eat on terrace or in a cave dining room. a stay here will be very memorable. by a Hotels.com guest on 05/08/12

The site is a must see. Actual caves that were used by prehistoric man can be walked to. The hotel room and restuarant that we visited were converted caves.

The hotel was as advertised. We enjoyed our stay in the authentic cave hotel. It had a nice breakfast room and a very good breakfast and great espresso and cappuccino. The hotel staff was very friendly and attentive. We had trouble finding the hotel , when we called them for directions, someone from the hotel came to meet us, walked us to the hotel […] , and took care of our luggage. Location is very good for exploring this exceptional city. Staff was very helpful, whether to recommend restaurants or explain how to get out of town on bikes. Just two things to consider -- Each room is a separate cave opening to the outside, but sound still carries. If you're sensitive to nighttime noise, you might ask for a room at the quiet end. We were glad the hotel had an arrangement for parking in a garage, but we were disappointed with the charging arrangements. When we left the car at the garage we were told it would be €10 a day, but on collecting the car were told it was €15 a day because it was a large car - a little underhand we thought.

Très typique et bien situé. Si vous souffrez de claustrophobie, évitez les chambres "souterraines" c-à-d sans vue et sans fenêtre, ce qui nous avait été attribué. Avec un peu de diplomatie et de gentillesse, on a finalement eu une chambre avec lumière du jour , terrasse et vue...J'ai l'impression que cet hotel donne d'abord les moins bonnes chambres […] et réserve les meilleures à ceux qui paient plein tarif. Hotel suggestivo nei Sassi di Matera. Non raggiungibile con automezzi, difficile da raggiungere con i bagagli causa presenza di ripide scale e vicoli stretti. Ma ne vale la pena.

I sated there, Hotel Sassi for 2nights. Staffs were friendly and helpful, You can ask them anything about sightseeing restaurants and shops around the hotel.The room was really clean and over- looks sassi town (also a church )which was gorgeous especially at night from the balcony. I think the price is cheap for the location. (I talked to a local Italian […] girl,she said that Hotel Sassi has the best location than any other hotels there) The break fast was also good.I hadn't taken so much hope for that cause the hotel has 3stars but I got many fruits, bread, Italian bread with tomato on it (I forgot the name ) yoghurt and fresh juice etc.. If I say a problem about the hotel I suppose, It's difficult to find out the hotel.I asked the local guy for the direction at the plaza and asked the other guy near the hotel. If I hadn't met him,I would have totally got lost there cause the roads was complicating like a maze! so You should ask the local people - they are really helpful-or call the hotel. I highly recommend the hotel and I'll definitely stay there again! Read more
