My husband and I stayed in one of the 2 White Essential rooms - the room was beautiful, with a rustic vibe, great views and amazing linens (sheets & towels). FYI, the doors don't lock from the outside, so if you're funny about leaving your valuables, leave them at home!
The amenities were outstanding - first of all, you won't believe the views of the sunrise / sunset from the B&B's dining area...breathtaking! The breakfast was different every day, and used the freshest local ingredients available. Delicious! The couple who own the b&b provide an incredible e book for planning your Tuscany visit and offer great itinerary options (and a GPS to get you around!), tailored to the experience you want and the amount of time that you have. they even make reservations for you - thank goodness, since we speak absolutely NO Italian!
There were a few tiny problems that we didn't even bother reporting to the owners...first, the bathroom had a serious ant problem. Ants everywhere! It was incredibly hot and dry in Tuscany when we visited, so that certainly may have exacerbated the problem. Also, the hot water in the shower took quite a while to start (I mean, probably 2-3 minutes?)...enough that, at first, we really thought that there was no hot water. The owners believe that Wifi shouldn't be in the rooms, so you have to be in the main area to access the internet (which is pretty spotty - the modem needs to be reset pretty frequently). This drove my hubby nuts! Finally - and this is silly - they have some pretty vocal farm animals...they woke us up a few mornings, but made us laugh more than anything! They added to the charm of this place :)
This B&B is run by a friendly husband and wife team. The location is spectacular with views of Montepulciano on one side and the local town on the other.
The a room we stayed in (white essential) was a good size with a massive bathroom. It was all very clean and we definitely enjoyed a bottle of local wine on the terrace in the evening. The rooms and communal areas are decorated in a shabby chic style, with an honestly bar serving local wines, beers and ciders.
Each room comes with a pre-programmed satnav (very useful for that part of Italy) and they provide a little guidebook with lots of recommended restaurants, itineraries and places to visit.
The breakfasts are all home-cooked and are amazing! Every day there is something different on the menu which is made fresh for you. Their "slowstrophy" is at the heart of everything they do there and it makes staying there a very relaxing treat.
There are many animals on their site and they all add to the brilliant surroundings and atmosphere.
This was a great find to start our honeymoon and we will definitely be returning!
i found this gem on mr and mrs smith. (awesome website by the way). let's talk about how follonico is amazing before you even check in. they send you an ebook filled with recommendations for things to do/see/places to eat. it is truly incredible.
when you check in they give you a pre-programmed gps to use with all the spots from the ebook in it?!?! totally above and beyond. especially if your cell phone data doesn't work in italy. you must have a car to stay here!!! it is pretty isolated and i didn't see any public transit. plus you will want to drive from little town to little town.
fabio is the best. even with the guide book i asked him a bunch of questions and he was always super helpful. i.e. we were out and about...i called him...and he was like go to this place when i said how we were feeling and what we were looking for in terms of the type of dining (casual/on our way back to follonico/no reservation needed). his recommendations were ALWAYS spot on!
about follonico itself... the property is amazing!!! white horse, chickens, rustic exterior, but with all the modern comforts. the rooms are beautiful and stocked with everything you would want. organic products (free of gross chemicals)...linen duvet...candles, quality wifi. it is all about the details here.
(only negative was that the water temperature in the shower wasn't the hottest... it was bearable, but definitely not hot.)
would i stay at follonico again and recommend it to my friends...definitely!!! the best!
Every single detail of Fabio and Suzanne's Follonico is well thought out and magical. Upon booking, they will send you a 49 page ebook to help you plan your stay in Tuscany and even provide a pre-programmed GPS to help navigate around. We HIGHLY recommend the cooking class with Fabio. It was such a fun way to end our time there. Every room is beautiful but we went for the largest suite and loved Blu Notte. The bed is unbelievable and the bathroom is HUGE! You can't go wrong with choosing Follonico. We can't wait to return.
You feel the quality and the love of the food and the owner everywhere ! We stayed at Verde Intenso and we loved the atmosphere of the suit and also all the details. If you need to get some quality rest or you want to get some fresh inspiration along with a beautiful view on Montepulciano, come to this place !
We stayed at Follonico for four nights in the month of June. The farm is nestled in Tuscan splendour, amongst vineyards and fields with distant views of Montefollonico, Pienza and Montepulciano in the background. Fabio and Suzanne's restored country home is all that is welcoming, charming and stylish. The furnishings are simple yet sophisticated and comfortable. Both Fabio and Suzanne work hard to make their guests feel at ease and at home. They are charming, friendly and well-informed hosts who offer modern tools like GPS with pre-programmed destinations and E-books full of great attraction and restaurant suggestions to ensure their guests' stays are always varied and interesting. We enjoyed their daily breakfasts, especially Fabio's pies (never too sweet) and fresh bread, made of stone ground flours from locally grown grains.
A hotel with a soul. Charming hosts make you feel as if you are at home. Chic rooms and adorable dogs, donkey, horse, and ducks. Delicious home-made breakfast. Excellent local restaurant and vineyard recommendations in surrounding villages.
Follonico is incredible. Set in the most beautiful Tuscan scenery, Fabio & Suzanne have created a piece of paradise for guests to stay. The rooms are beautifully decorated and everything is provided to make your stay enjoyable - including air con & wifi. A lovely breakfast is provided each morning - fresh bread, cheese and meats, a daily savoury and sweet treat and plenty of cereals and coffee. We were made to feel very welcome, including our 2 year old who was doing her best to chase the dogs, carry the budgies around and touch everything in sight. We were also provided with advice on where to go and had great trips to local villages and restaurants as a result. Highly recommended!
We had the pleasure of spending 4 nights at Follonico in December 2014. Everything that's been said about this place is true. The property itself is incredibly beautiful and serene. The owners, Fabio and Suzanne (who live on the property with their children) are warm and welcoming.
Some of the highlights:
-Fabio's fresh cooked breakfasts every morning, with fresh baked breads, fresh squeezed juice, and local cheeses and meats.
-Fabio and Suzanne have GPS devices that they give you that are pre-loaded with all the local destinations, making it very easy to find your way around the area.
-At Suzanne's recommendation, we had lunch at a local organic farm called Podere il Casale. It was absolutely delicious and ended up being one of the highlights of our entire trip to Italy.
If you ever have the chance to stay at Follonico, DO IT, it will be a decision well made. I am already looking forward to when I can visit Follonico a second time.
We had a lovely stay at this bed and breakfast. The hosts are warm and welcoming. The property is picturesque with views of vineyards on rolling hills and the farm is very quaint. The decor is modern yet rustic at the same time. Don't go off he property to do wine tasting- buy a bottle and enjoy the property fully without any hassles! The breakfast is tasty. The room was a bit warm- AC wasn't very strong but it was also 100 degrees outside and that's just what most of Italy feels like in July.
