Hotel Villa Fontaine VILLAGE KYOTO - Kyoto

We had a 35 sq.m. Japanese-style room for 4 people. The chairs in the room were actually foam cushions that unfolded into mattresses, upon which you placed a futon mattress to sleep on, covered by super soft & comfy futon comforters. There were also extra blankets in case that wasn't warm enough. As someone who usually has to request extra blankets, […] I appreciated having this "luxury." To add to the comfort were adjustable pillows. This was the most comfortable hotel we stayed at during our trip (out of 4 hotels). The only slight downside was the room could get a little dusty, due to the tatami mat floors, but this may have been because we missed having the room made up on one day (forgot to flip the "do not disturb" sign). Room amenities even included nice Japanese-style yukata and pants, and bath fizzes. We all liked the secure access to the elevators and public bath. The public bath was very modern and felt super clean, and was an added benefit to our stay. We would definitely return to this hotel if/when we go to Kyoto again. Read more

Hotel is a short 5 minute cab ride from the Kyoto JR Station, and 5 minute walk to local subway. There are several 24hr convience stores nearby (Family Mart, etc.) a McDonalds, Lotteria, and some great local restaurants with Yakitori, Sushi, Cold Noodle, etc. It is about a 20min walk to the Nijo Castle and from there you can take the local subway or […] cab to other castles and temples if you don’t take a tour. The room is a traditional style Japanese room – and is very comfortable! I did not miss my western style bed at all, the fold out Japanese futons are more comfortable than most western beds. We had a group of three and the room we got was for 3-5 people, it was very spacious and we had plenty of room for all of us and a private in room bathroom with complimentary toiletries. The hotel staff was very helpful and nice with great English skills. I would definitely stay at this hotel again and recommend to anyone staying in Kyoto. Read more

Friendly staff, ample English. Good location--convenience stores & subway nearby. Traditional futon-style bedding and onsen spa for authentic "Japan-style" experience. One of the few places where families of 4-5 can sleep comfortably in the same room.

The front desk were able to help with filling out the forms and taking care of the pick up of our luggage for takuhaibin delivery to our next location in Nara. There are various restaurants located near the hotel ranging from Gusto cafe restaurant across the road, which is a perfect breakfast location, to Gyoza no Osho (餃子の王将) chain for a cheaper dinner or kushihachi (八串) a skewer & sushi, a more stylish izakaya. Attractions close to the hotel include Nijo Castle (about 5 mins by bus) and Mibu Temple (about 5 mins walk). Our stay at the Hotel Villa Fontaine Kyoto was very pleasant. Though it is close to a local subway stop, it was a bit of a hike from the closest JR station (Kyoto Station) so we ended up taking a cab because it would have cost about the same for metro tickets for 3 people (approx 1100yen). Room was very clean and comfortable, tiny bathroom but there's […] a public bath on the main floor open from 3pm-11am. Liked that they provided toiletries for us. Futon beds weren't the most comfortable compared to a mattress, but they weren't that bad. Since the hallway was actually open to the outside (not enclosed), there was a bit of a cold draft coming in under the door so we had our heat on all night. Reception staff was very friendly, English wasn't great but we were able to communicate with them for the most part. There was wired LAN in the rooms and free wifi in the lobby (password protected). We had a great stay at the villa! It was a modern japanese style accommodation. It was comfortable with clean sheets everyday! Free breakfast everyday delivered to your room! The sushi meal was the best. The staff at the front were very friendly. You could ask them about anything and they will help you with it. You can get a 1 day, bus pass from them […] that costs 500 jap yuen and you can use it to go sight seeing. They will also give you a bus map that helps you get to places and back. There's also a public bath, kinda like a small pool available 1 for females and 1 for males. Overall, everything went well, clean washroom and comfortable while getting the japanese experience. Oh and the washroom products are provided, example, shampoo, conditioner, face and hand wash and they are good products! Products that don't dry your skin or hair! Well run hotel.There is a fridge, microwave and kettle in the room. No WIFI but there is free LAN internet. Nice Public bath. Breakfast included is a boxed one delivered to the room.
