A beautifully designed hotel with a feeling of the old and the new. Only complaint is poor lighting in the room and the need for light on both sides of a large bed. The spa is excellent and the food is good. The location is quiet and particularly if you are in the back.

I only got to spend two nights at the Ping Nakara, but really enjoyed it. The staff was uber-attentive and the hotel itself was lovely. Breakfast was fantastic (loved the ice coffee), the pool was beautiful and the room was amazingly comfortable and spacious. My only complaint would be how much noise carried within the hotel. The Ping Nakara is an elegant, gracious boutique hotel located between the Night Bazaar and the River Ping. My room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The room was quiet and overlooked a garden. The hotel is located on the site of an old teak plantation and has been built in the colonial style of the period. The food was very good, and […] the service was superb. One morning I was reading the paper in the outdoor porch overlooking the pool. I asked for coffee and expected to find it on my bill when I checked out. There turned out to be no charge. The staff was enormously helpful at all times and arranged for taxis and tuk tuks so I wouldn't have to bother. Spectacular retreat with its own restaurant and access to the Nakara Gardin on the banks of the Ping River. Perfect location to the night market and the old city but in a beautiful, secluded and quiet setting. Fully booked when we came back through so the downside is that reservations are needed.

Spent a lovely 5 days in this beautiful hotel - colonial elegance, beautifully boutique and good value for money. I'd definitely stay there again - the only snag was that the hotel is set up for couples and is not very child friendly. Because there were a number of children staying there it was noisy!

Staff were amazingly friendly and went out of their way to help. Ping Nakara is close to most of the centre of Chiang Mai yet far enough to be quiet. The place looks fantastic and as it was the off season we had it all to ourselves and about 3 other guests. Bed was great and breakfast good. Will stay there again next time.

We fell in-love with Ping Nakara Hotel! The building itself is beautifully designed with interesting antiques spread throughout the sitting room, library and veranda. The room was clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was great where we were able to order anything from the a la carte menu in addition to the buffet. There was turn-down […] service with fresh flowers left on the pillows every night. The free wifi actually worked well everywhere in the hotel. But what impressed us most was the service! The staff were all so friendly, helpful and accomodating and did everything to make our stay as comfortable as possible. Because it is a smaller boutique hotel, we actually felt like they knew who we were and cared if we were enjoying our stay. We were there during low season so the hotel was not full, but it still was a very calm serene atmosphere. So if you are looking for a more "social' hotel, this may not be the one for you. That being said, this was our favourite of the 5 hotels we stayed at in Thailand and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful romantic getaway in Chiang Mai. Read more

An excellent Boutique Hotel close to the centre of Chiang Mai. Stayed there for two nights in the beginning of January 2012. The room was elegantly modern with a classical feel to it. Comfortable bed with very nice pillows. Both bathtub and shower worked well with a good flow of water. On arrival some hand towels were missing but this was amended at […] turndown. Complimentary local candy an nice touch. Breakfast consisted of a continental buffet and a menu with hot dishes cooked a la minute. Excellent bread and jam, so so cold cuts but a good selection of fresh fruit and juices. Delicious hot dishes such as omelet, pancakes, French toast and local specialities, well made and promptly served. With only 14 (?) rooms the property felt wonderfully quiet, lounging at the pool or taking a coffee was just relaxing and blissful, far from larger hotels hustle and bustle. Going anywhere in Chiang Mai was easy with either tuktuk och the local red buses. Complimentary late check out till 2 pm. was offered when requested. Staff overall polite, helpful and ready with a smile. If you are looking for some quality time away from home, this is definitely a good place to go! Read more

We spent ten days at the Ping Nakara and loved every moment of our stay. The staff were beyond exceptional - everybody from the housekeepers to the waiters and even maintenance people had a big smile and a hello and nothing was too much trouble. A call to the housekeeper had someone at the door within minutes, every time. The food at the Ping Nakara […] restaurant was some of the best Thai food we have ever eaten. The rooms are large, cool and beautiful; the pool and verandah areas are a great place to relax when you've had enough of tuk tuks and the noise of a busy city. My one suggestion would be to add some very big comfy feather cushions to the verandah chairs as the seating looks lovely but is not very comfortable. While not in the centre of the city, the hotel is a five minute walk to the night markets or a five minute tuk tuk ride to the inner moated city and just a few steps away from a beautiful temple on the river and we had not trouble at all getting around. We looked in on another couple of popular hotels and really believe the Ping Nakara is the best in the city - an absolute oasis in Chiang Mai. Read more
