Avista is a beautiful hotel with wonderful staff. We had a great room and a great experience. It was clean and the room is quite big. Great breakfast too! Nice pool!

This was the last hotel we stayed in our 16 day trip through Thailand, and it was good, but one of our least favorite compared to the rest, mainly because of Phuket itself. Compared to the hotels, costs, and surrounding environments in Ao Nang and Railay Beach in Krabi, Ko Phi Phi, and Phang Nga just one hour north of Phuket, this hotel and location didn't compare. First off, this hotel is atop a pretty large hill. You will have to walk at about a 75 degree angle for about 10 minutes if you don't take taxis. Our room needed some renovation, taking a shower was a hassle because water temperature was going from cold to hot all the time. The room was cleaned poorly, no matter how much tips you were paying (we tried anything in the 40-100 baht range) and pillowcases and bed sheets were changed only after 6 days of stay and a asking a manager at the reception […] to do it. On the positive side I should mention the sea view, which is quite nice if you have a club room with balcony. Kata not really a nice area. Karon Beach would be better. Room smelled musty and bathroom tiles were full of mildew. Part of tile on bathroom tub was missing and could actually see underneath the tub. Wifi didn't work. Had to wait in line in lobby to use public computers. Only bright spots were breakfast and dinner buffets. They were amazing actually. […] Bottom line, wouldn't stay here again. This was our first visit to Phuket, and we chose to stay at the Avista based on the reviews from Expedia and Traveladvisor. It was a great choice. The location of the hotel up on a hill in Kata Beach allows visitors to escape from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas while still having access to them whenever it is desired. The only frustrating […] thing that we ran into is that the hotel and a taxi service seem to have some type of agreement such that no other taxi drivers will pick up from the hotel. Thus, if you need a taxi to go anywhere, you are forced to pay the very high prices of the taxi service out front unless you walk down the hill to the main part of town. This wasn't a big deal until we got to the last day when we had to cart our luggage down the very steep hill. The rooms at the hotel are clean and comfortable, and the staff was friendly and efficient. We included the breakfast buffet with our room, and it was a great choice. The food was very good with a lot of selection to choose from. We also at at hotel restaurant for dinner, and we found the dinner service and food to be excellent as well. We will definitely choose the Avista as a place to stay should we head to Phuket again. Read more

the hotel is locate on high level on the mountain so we can't see the sea,but can walk about 10 minute to the beach. Game room is closed early some night,there is nothing on TV I want to play games but the room is closed 9 P.M. Breakfast is OK but your chese is not OK. The Avista was a great choice for our 3 day stay in Kata. The hotel is a short 10 min walk to the beach and 5 mins walking to the town, which has lots of shops and restaurants. The hotel is situated at the top of a steep hill, which can be daunting to climb on a hot day or for unfit travelers, but we didn't find this to be an issue at all. It was a […] 15 min tuk-tuk ride to Patong but don't spend too much time trying to negotiate a lower rate. Everyone seemed to be charging the same. The hotel also offers a free shuttle if you sign up in advance but make sure you're early! We reserved a shuttle at 7:30pm and were in the lobby at 7:29pm and the shuttle had left without us. The hotel should have called our rooms or waited a couple of mins but they didn't, which was a bit frustrating. Kata Beach is a lot quieter and less crowded than Patong with nice beaches and sand. To have spectacular blue waters and white sands though (as one pictures for Phuket), you should stay right on the Phi Phi Islands. The hotel lobby is open aired and quite welcoming, including free internet terminals. The pool area, spa and restaurant are also well maintained. Our rooms were spacious, clean and modern - a good value for money as compared to the other hotels we looked at in the area. I would highly recommend this hotel to other travelers. Read more

First of let me say this hotel and its grounds are beautiful. What holds it back in my opinion is the service. When we checked in, we had traveled for over an hour to get to the hotel from the airport, none of the taxi drivers know where it is, they checked us in with a welcome drink, towel and flowers. The baggage guy showed us around the hotel as […] he took us to our room. The room is very modern and kind of cool. We didn't know anything about the area and the hotel is at the top of a big hill, if you have mobility issues it is not the place for you otherwise it is fine. The next day we hung around the pool and walked into town. I think it would be helpful if the hotel furnished you with a map of the surrounding area when you checked in, like which way to the beach and that sort of thing, we ended up with a map about 3 days later. They do not have a gift shop, so if you want anything you need to go into town, which is about 5 minutes down the hill. The minibar has drinks and snacks that are fairly reasonably priced. The food in the restaraunt outside of breakfast is average as are the drinks. I guess the thing that bothered me was inconsistency in service. Some of the people are very friendly and some are not and quite frowny. We found that sometimes our room was cleaned properly, trash dumped and floor swept, and sometimes it wasn't. We had a problem with the bottled water, we got two the day we checked in but not again until we asked for more several days later. If you can't drink the water, we shouldn't have to chase down that kind of thing. Several days our trash was not dumped and a couple of days our floor was not swept. The reception area should be where you have your strongest English speakers but it is not. We needed to get a taxi back to the airport but the front desk said we would have to call to arrange that. Kata beach location is fairly convenient, less than 10 minute walk to beach and town center. Excellent staff service. Room was spacious, clean, well furnished and balcony had nice view of the beach. My stay at the Avista was very nice. The hotel is situated on a hill that would be a challenge for someone not accustomed to steep grades. It is about 400 M from the main road and about 1 km from the beach. Taxis are available at the door. Security is very good also. I got tired of the trekking so opted for the taxis but the fair is a little high and […] always the same price whether you go 500M or 2 km. The room had a two minor repair issues that were repaired in minutes. The pools are great for families or adults. The swim up bar is very nice. The rooms were clean, beds really comfortable and décor modern and functional. The rooms are very large with nice balconies. The dining room and room service was excellent and reasonable. They do not overcharge for meals or service. Room service was prompt. The staff all spoke some English. I would return just for that reason alone. I asked about another restaurant for Thai food and the place they recommended was excellent also. There are free computers in the lobby if you need them. This hotel is not too close to the bar scene and more suited to families who want to have a resort feel and be close to a beach. The only things I did not like were that it was a hike to Kata Beach (which is really nice) and the hill climbing. It was a lovely hotel to stay in. The rooms were great and well equipped and everything looked exactly like the pictures. The hotel staff were always more then happy to help with anything we needed. Eating out is a lot cheaper and obviously you have more variety as there are a lot of places to eat close by. The area seemed great for families with younger kids, not to much hustle & bustle at night but it was well located for everything you need. The hill everyone mentions was a bit of an inconvenience on a hot day after a long day out but would only really be a problem for people with less mobility. Nice and clean, good pool. You'll get lost in the bed, it's so big. The evening buffet was great for the price but is only put on twice a week. Our only problem was the transport to other places. Taxis cost $13-$15 to Patong which isn't far. We stayed there for 11 nights. Breakfast is good with a large buffet. The hotel has a 14 seater shuttle bus which […] runs twice a day to Patong but which we found fully booked on some occasions. There is no public transport from Kata beach to Patong so be prepared to spend a fair bit of money on if you have to go to Patong like we did. We ended up hiring a scooter for $7/day which is great if you're prepared to take the risk. Petrol sold on the side of the road in bottles will cost about $2/ltr. Found riding around quite easy with no road raging like you get in Australia. Read more

From the minuite we arrived at the hotel all the staff were extremely helpful and attentive l excellent service. Location is good only a few minutes to beach and town. We were celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary and the hotel left a cake, bottle of champers and flowers on the bed - a lovely surprise. Would definetly go back to Avista.
