"Good facilities, good location but poor service"
As other reviewers have written, the facilities at this hotel are pretty good and it is located close to Monastiraki station which is convenient. However, the attitude to customer service was just atrocious. My wife and I went late March and people were still wearing coats, jackets and gloves in Athens and the hotel was very cold even in the early […] evening. I requested to the staff 4 times to put the temperature up, but they said that they could not change the central heating - they just gave us an extra blanket. What makes things worse is that one manager said it was not possible to change it, another said he would call an outside technician the next day and another said he could change it but would not because other customers might complain. It was clear that they would make up any excuse to not change the temp, just to save on heating costs. The wifi was another issue and many people were complaining about it. I had to call constantly for the router to be restarted. I was given the same line as the heating - technician would be called the next day. The next day the internet was still poor so I waited in the lobby for 30 minutes trying the things they wanted me to try until I told the manager that he needs to contact ISP to solve the problem. At the same time a higher manager entered the building and he told the duty manager something and it worked almost immediately. These two incidents just showed me how unattentive this hotel was to solving problems on basic services that all guests expect - heating and wifi. I was disgusted by the 'can't do' attitude of staff and will not use this hotel again and do not recommend others to use it either Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Don't be put off by location at night..."
Dont be out off by the rather intimidating location if you arrive at night, it is in a small road back from a busy street. In the. Or I g the place comes alive and you are in the throng of the fruit and veg stalls outside the door. The hotel is located close to the busy Ermou Street, and a short walk the the pleasant Psyrri area where there are many […] tavernas - we liked it there more than the Plaka district which is too touristy. The hotel staff were helpful and spoke good English. The rooms are small, but ok for a short stay. We had room 107 which had no outside view, and next to the lift which was fairly noisy at night. The breakfast on the mezzanine floor was adequate for this type of hotel. Overall, definitely worth the money and we would recommend to others. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Spotless room. Unbeatable view from roof!"
Stayed here for four nights in a spotless and spacious room. In addition, the shower was wonderful--very large and with excellent water pressure. Things seemed very well planned out (room for luggage under the desk/shelf as a space-saver, safe, shelves and light In closet, chair...). The computer in lobby was hooked up to a printer which was very convenient […] for printing boarding passes. Another added convenience in the lobby was a luggage scale. No need to take a taxi from the airport... Take the metro to Monastiraki station (direct route, no need to switch lines) for 8€ (or 4€ for students) and walk a couple of short blocks to the hotel. Location is fabulous--within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go (Acropolis, Plaka, National Archeological Museum, etc.). Locals shopped at the market right outside the doors of the hotel and there were many places to eat (also frequented by locals) nearby. Wifi was a bit spotty in our room, but when notified of the problem, staff had it reset. (Wifi was always available in the lobby.) There was a wide selection of food at the breakfast buffet. The highlight was the view of the Acropolis from the roof of the hotel. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely return. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I have stayed in this hotel over a weekend. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Hotel was clean and had all the basic things you might need during your stay, to make your life easy (room equipped with all the basics, there is nice little breakfast buffet, luggage storage, tourist info, etc). The receptionist was always happy to advise and help […] with anything we needed. The location of the hotel was great as well, no more than 15 min walk to all the historic attractions, there was a lot of great little restaurants around, every day food market is just on the steps of the hotel. "Working City Center Location - Big Plus"
A real find - top 3 star hotel we have found. Had some initial hesitation about the working nature of the surroundings and the fact the hotel was a bit hard to find, but it turned out to be A+. Everyone in neighborhood friendly. The Agora and Plaka within easy walking distance one way, the vegetable, fish, and meat markets and 100's of local shops right […] outside the door, and the Archeological Museum a 20 minute walk the other way. i.e.YOU CAN SEE THE CITY AS IT WAS, AND AS IT IS . . . Also, very clean modern rooms with free internet, and great view of Parthenon from some (including ours) and from the roof ! Excellent helpful front desk staff. We had 2 nights in a 5 star hotel in the city, but preferred this place for location, amenities and eclectic character.. Would not hesitate to stay again . . . "Nice hotel in produce/slightly dodgy area"
Hotel was really nice. Modern rooms that were clean with very helpful staff. There is a roof top bar area however the bar was closed. You could still go up and see the view though.Genuine Expedia guest review
Response by Athens Center Square Hotel Dear Will, Thank you for your positive review. We are glad you enjoyed the cleanliness of our modern rooms as well as the roof top View of the Acropolis. The bar is open until October, weather allowing. Lately it has been cold and raining at night this is why it was closed. Still as you mentioned, you could get a drink from the main bar at the lounge. Hope we will see you again. Best regards Dorina S
What a fantastic hotel! Great location! I was a single female traveller and felt completely safe wondering down to the shops and restaurants, although I did not often go out very late at night alone. "Quite adequate hotel - very convenient location."
The five nights we had at the hotel allowed us time to explore so much of the history steeped in Athens and surrounds. We had no difficulty in getting about from the hotel due to its great central position.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Good budget option"
Main quibble: location is a little urban and gritty compared to staying in Plaka. That said, it is close to main attractions and souvlaki alley ;) We were told we'd been upgraded to a room on 8th floor with great acropolis views. Be aware if this happens to you, you can hear chairs being dragged around the roof as they have a rooftop bar which closes […] at 11.30pm, not great if you want an early night. "Great central location"
Easy to get around, central location to see all the ancient sites, next to Plaka, Monastiraki, Ermou St shopping, Gazi and Thissio. Close to other sites, such as Syntagma, National Archaelogical Museum. Brekky not 5star but enough variety to get you going thru the day. The Greek yoghurt, honey, bruschetta, feta and olives a nice touch. A great place […] for first time in Athens even with the grimy walk past the fruit market, adds some flavor and color to your stay. "Right in the Heart of Old Athens-the Market"
Modernized hotel very close to the Monasteraki Subway station and the flea market area. Clean, fairly quiet with a roof top view of the Acropolis. Staff is friendly and helpful. My son and I stayed there for our first two nights in Greece and took a taxi from the airport, arriving around 11pm. The location surprised us-graffiti covered neighborhood […] and down a street that looked deserted. The next morning we found the deserted street to be alive with fruit and vegetable stands and Athenians going about their business . On our first night, we were taken by my cousin and her sons to a nightclub on Monasteraki Square which is down the street and around the corner and down a couple of blocks and the area was full of street life, including hip hop dancers. The hotel itself is very comfortable and the room was a good size. A breakfast buffet is included. We took the metro to the Acropolis, later we ate in restaurants in the flea market area overlooking the ruins which are within walking distance of the hotel. When we left, we pulled our luggage to Monasteraki Metro and headed for the airport. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Value for money. Clean, safe and spacious."
Wonderful hotel in a convenient and safe location. Value for money. Nice breakfast buffet. Perfect rooftop bar serviced by friendly staff. Most staff working at the reception desk are ready to assist you. A certain few may need to be more proactive but in Greece, everyone needs to be able to smile more. Internet using a login voucher can be annoying […] to some but it is decently fast and always available. Showers can be a little tiny for huge ppl but it is very modernly furnished. The hotel itself is very nice. We arrived in the early evening, and being across the street from the market, the street was messy with fruit and vegetable garbage. Walking to a nearby restaurant at night was a little uneasy. The next morning, however, the street was bustling and it was a more comfortable feeling. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. […] Breakfast was good. The rooms were nice and modern. The rooftop terrace has a decent view of the acropolis, but it was a pretty basic setup. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Athens itself is a tough neighborhood - no hotel is going to overcome that. Having said that, this hotel is a short 5 minute walk from the tourist area (monastiraki square) so the location is great. It's also situated on a street that has an open air fruit and vegetable market on most mornings. It's pretty loud, so you may want to ask for a room on […] an upper floor. Although if you shut your window and crank the AC, that should drown out most of the noise. The hotel staff was very helpful and the breakfast was excellent. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. Ok, the view of the Acropolis from the roof is excellent, but the neighbourhood is rather grungy and slightly disconcerting. I'm sensitive to smells, and the market, which is right outside, does have an unpleasant odour. This is a "designer hotel" which is great to a point, but I'd prefer better lighting in the bathroom and corridors, which can be rather […] gloomy. Having said all that, very comfortable bed, free wireless. Room a bit on the smaller size at 16sqm. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Overall good value and central location"
The Hotel Receptionist was extremely helpful and pleasant and deserves a good medal for the way she deals with clients. Condition of room was quite good, clean & comfortable. "May not be for all"
The hotel itself for the cost is well worth it. It is 5 min walk from the Monastiraski station and conveniently located from all the historical sites. If you are used to or willing to accept that that would be your view on the way out from the hotel will include open fruit markets; South-Asian style open meat bazar than you will be fine, as the hotel […] is right in the middle of an open bazar. You will have to walk through the open market to get to the hotel entrance. And the entrance does not look anything like it has been suggested in the picture. Your first impression of the hotel will not be great, but it is quite pleasant inside. Breakfast is adequate but would prefer a bit more variety for hot items on offer. Monastiraski is the poorer side of Athens and as soon as you crossed the Ermou road (next to Monastiraksi station) you will feel safer. Perhaps not a good idea to return to the hotel late in the night merely due to the surrounding. Most people understand some English and will be in hand to help if required. "Modern hotel suitable for business and pleasure"
Modern hotel in the Monastiraki area of Athens. The staff were welcoming, helpful and yet, unobtrusive. Our room, on the 8th floor, had superb views of the Acropolis, particularly when the Parthenon was lit up at night. Although minimilastic, the room had everything we needed - small fridge, comfortable bed and excellent shower. The room was cleaned […] every day ensuring a fresh and comfortable place to relax in. Many reviewers have commented on the location - next to the fruit and vegetable market and close to areas where there appeared to be "undesirables." Although the area was badly lit and full of graffiti, this was no different to many other areas of Athens and presented no problem. The hotel's location was, however, close to the restaurant and cafe area and only a short distance from all local transport. The busy, cosmopolitan area was a wonderful place to see all of the archeaological sites and museums and an excellent centre for shopping, eating and meeting local people. GO/CHAT tours, the hotel's recommended tour company, was excellent. Knowledgeable guides and pristine coaches provided us with opportunity to visit Delphi and Mycenae. Other trips were available - including two to four day excursions. We learned a great deal more about Greece's history and culture. To complete our visit, we would recommend Sun Transfer taxis. The firm provided an excellent service - even anticipating the delays caused by a protest march to make sure we got to the airport on time. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but too close to the wet market."
Great location, just minutes away from the Monastiraki Square where you could get all the delicious Greek food. Walking distance to the Acropolis too. Very nice staff in the hotel. The only minus point I could say for this hotel is the location is right in front of a wet market, sometimes you get unpleasant smells if you open your window (my room was […] 1st floor) and when walking in and out of the hotel. Also a bit of noise, when window is open because of the market. Other than that, it is a great hotel. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

The hotel location is central to many significant must see parts of Athens and in the middle of a large market district as well as being a five minute walk to Monastiraki train station which is part of the Metro system and has a direct line to the Airport. The rest is within walking distance to all that you would need to see, eat and drink. A basic […] breakfast begins at 3am with the full menu coming on from 7 till 10 so my jet lag was quelled as was my insomnia. Good, clean, well located hotel that is great value for money. We had some problems with the room safe, which were fixed quickly. There's a street market below which can be noisy from around 7am. We were on the 6th floor and it wasn't a problem, but it could be an issue if you were lower down. The entrance to the hotel is though the market - at night […] it can feel a bit intimidating, but we didn't have any problems (here, or in the rest of Athens - it felt like a nice city). What really made this hotel were the staff - friendly, knowledgeable, excellent in all regards. Roof terrace has amazing near-360 degree views of the city. "A real find"
After many years of trying I think I've finally found the perfect budget hotel in Athens. There's almost nothing not to like about this one. If you love the real Athens this is a perfect location. I can't think of anything better than walking straight out into the fruit and vegetable market in the morning. A clean modern hotel with excellent service, […] very clean and comfortable rooms, a good breakfast and free wifi. My room was on the market side, but there was no problem with noise. Minus points were tiny. (There was some slight noise from nearby rooms and I wasn't overwhelmed by the 'Easyjet orange' colour scheme.) Finally, one of the great pluses of this hotel is that I could go all the way from my room to the airport (via the metro from Monastiraki) without once having to pick up my suitcase. And speaking as one of those mythical 'single older women' I can confidently say that there's nothing scary about this area. Robbery is always possible for any age and gender at any time of day, but taking simple and obvious precautions can easily take care of that. Very highly recommended.
