"Nice hotel without downtown hassle"
Stopped at hotel for an overnight stop on a longer trip. Hotel was very nice and had accommodations for 6 people - a big plus. Close enough to walk to a local area to have a few drinks as the hotel bar closed early. "Not Hilton standards"
The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful! they assisted with dining recommendations and transportation. They were very friendly and courteous, and even remembered us when we would come back from a night out. The room however was disappointing. It had a musty/moldy smell, the carpets felt wet most of our 3 night stay. We assumed it was recently shampooed […] carpet so didn't' make an issue of it the first day, but the smell did not go away. Housekeeping skipped our room the first full day. The woman we saw in the hall way was extremely friendly and accommodating when we talked to her and always seemed busy so I wondered if short on staff. We should've have said something but consider ourselves fairly low maintenance people and let it slide. The room itself needs some maintenance. The sleep number beds were awful. A couple of the dials were broke so the bed stayed on it's firmest level. I'm not convinced the other dials worked either, however, as it was just like sleeping on a rock. There were marks on the walls, outdated furnishings, and a big big bug in the bathroom. Any one or two of these issues would just be a tolerable fluke but not on the whole. The room just didn't feel clean. This was not our typical Hilton stay--felt like much lower scale accommodations once we entered the room. About a 1 mile walk from hotel to music/bar scene: Broadway and 2nd Ave. Great exercise. If you're not able to walk, a hotel shuttle bus provides great service for free within a 3 mile radius. Hotel is very close (less than 1/2 mile) to Vanderbilt U., which has a gorgeous campus. Also about 1/2 mile walk to Centennial Park and the Parthenon replica. The stay at the hotel was one of the most welcoming experieinces. We were in a party of 4 and the other 2 checked in before 4. We prior had been told 4 so we drove around and did some retail therapy. My family of 5 recently stayed at the Hilton garden inn, and overall it was a great stay. Downside was the parking charge of $25 a day, but at least it's valet and you can go in and out as many times needed. Another bummer was that we got a suite and the 'king' bed was more like a queen- but still comfy enough to rest well. We booked this trip as part of the Rock n Roll marathon series. This hotel was $100 less than the others so we weren't sure what we were getting into. However, the hotel is perfect for a weekend trip and the free shuttle is the cherry on top. It drops you off and pick you up downtown and at the hotel. I stayed here for the Country Music Marathon and chose it based on a.) price and b.) location. When we arrived around 10am we were unable to check in but welcomed to the brunch room instead. By the time we were done (brunch was great), the room was ready! Throughout our stay the staff was exceptional. It *POURED* during the race with temps in the low […] 50s. We were welcomed back to the hotel with a warm towel, bananas and water from staff in the lobby! They also gave out trash bags for ponchos for anyone that wanted one. The room itself is a solid business-tyle room but the pool and gym looked great too. It is about a mile walk to the bars on Broadway but the hotel shuttle is seemingly always running and will bring you within a ~2 mile radius of the hotel (be sure to tip the driver). Taxis are always available from the hotel as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel for the race, a weekend trip or certainly any families visiting Vanderbilt (just a few blocks away). The bars on Broadway/2nd street are great but if you have time be sure to check out the restaurants and bars around the hotel, we had some great meals and drinks celebrating the marathon.
