"close to subway and JR"
The location is good, close to subway and JR. People can pay 330 yen for a breakfast which has toast, soup, tea and coffee. The room is small, but clean. There are coin washer and drier.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"excellent value for the thrifty traveller"
Overall a great experience. We needed to cancel one day of a four night stay and they took care of it without any hassle. We stayed during the busy vacation time of "Golden Week" and didn't have any problems. It's an easy walk from the Metro and an interesting energetic area. The room we got was for two people and was adequate, private, clean and efficient. […] No extras but comparable to inexpensive rooms in Paris and other large cities. They have a cafe at the bottom of the hotel with inexpensive bottomless cups of coffee which is a must when you're jet-lagged from the US. The wifi was easy to connect to and fast! Which was great for looking up activities and planning our days. We loved the stay and would recommend it for couples and singles, not so much for families or older travelers. "Great Location for a reasonable price."
This hotel is great. There is a lot to see and do in the area, and you are minutes from a major transportation center. It's not high luxury, but if you are spending too much time in your room, you are not experiencing Tokyo!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The staff and all the guests were exceptionally outgoing and friendly. The atmosphere was that of a family. moreso than simply being a guest. Breakfast was always a fun way to sit with pleasant company and set yourself up for the day. Rooms were very clean, functional and decent value for the price. I will definitely return!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Small, but clean."
We have stayed in Sakura Hotel twice now for 10 days each time. Both times we found the rooms to be very clean, though extremely small. We also found the staff to be very helpful and friendly both times we were there. The location of the hotel is extremely convenient for getting to the Ikebukuro train station. "Very small room in good location"
Stayed for 5 days while on a 2-week Japan trip. The staff were not the friendliest but did speak English and able to answer the few questions we had. The walls were paper-thin and we had a loud group of teens there on some sort of trip, so it was a little annoying. The room was the smallest we stayed in while in Japan - which is saying something, since […] almost all were fairly small by western standards. The best part of the hotel, by far, was the location. A 5-minute walk to the main JR/Metro line in Ikebukuro and a lively nightlife with lots of fun bars and restaurants. If we went back, we'd definitely stay in that area again but in a different hotel. "for young peole only."
The hotel is specifically in the nights very noisy. The guests are gemerally young persons and very noisy. Although I reserved my room through expedia as smoking room, the hotel rooms are non-smoking at all. Ths is good but I should have knew it from the web site of Expedia. There are many people coming from outside and the cafe is the only people place […] for smoking, I couldn't find a place to sit and take a breath and smoking as well. "Good for the price & very helpful stuff."
The Ikebukuro branch of the Sakura Hotel chain has single rooms & dormitory rooms. Which you pick is up to your budget and preferences. The hotel staff speaks good English, since the hotel guests are usually from other countries. I went with the dormitory to save some money. The dormitory had 8 beds in it. There were two separate lounge areas on the […] floor I stayed on, one with a kitchen area & another by the emergency exit stairs. As stated on the website, the WiFi does not work beyond the lobbies of the two buildings of the hotel. This is inconvenient for casual internet browsing, but great for meeting people. The single rooms, however, have their own wired internet access point, so this is only an issue the dormitory guests have to care about. I was in Japan to sight-see & meet people, so the internet wasn't a big concern of mine most of the time. Also, the hotel owned restaurant is nice. The restaurant serves a variety of foods from around the world. I ate there a few times. It was pretty good. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"great and helpful staff!"
Nice location in ikebukuro, minutes away from JR yamanote line. Very nice and helpful staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The subway is a quick 5 minute walk for metro and 8 minute walk to the JR station. Ikebukuro is a big smoking town in Tokyo. If you can stand the smoke, I would highly suggest staying here while in Tokyo. The hotel rooms were extremely small, however this is quite common in Tokyo. The cafe has a great ambiance about it. Directly across the street is […] Sakura hostel which is great because you get to meet allot of international student travelers at the cafe. Our first night we were accompanied by local Tokyo students trying to practice their English. The same night we spoke to a group of students from Australia. As mentioned previously this was the smallest hotel we stayed in however the staff, location, and ambiance surpassed our concerns with the room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Not Recommended at all"
The hotel room was so small that it doesn't fit three and the air conditioner was so loud. I couldn't sleep. When trying to turn around in the room, three people keep bumping into each other. Stay away from 401.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Practical and cheap"
Good location close to Ikebukuro station. Not the luxurious stay of your dreams but quiet and good and nice service with a young traveling crowd around. I have stayed here 3 or 4 times by now because of the good points above mentioned and I like Ikebukuro, however, if you find slightly more luxurious for similar price, go for it as this time the damp […] smell in the bathroom did bother me a bit and I was longing for a view. "Good locations, great staff"
The hotel is located about 4 minutes away from a JR station, so that right away made it convenient. The fact that it is in Ikebukuro, near many of the Tokyo hot-spots, made it even more so. It was a little difficult to find at first, but I qquickly got used to the location. The staff is also incredibly helpful and helped me with every question, trouble, […] and care I presented to them. The cafe on the first floor also made for a great place to meet friends or grab a bite to eat, if you get the urge to try some great international cuisine. I fully recommend this hotel. "Family enjoyed visit to Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro"
Handy location near Ikebukuro station. The front desk staff was very polite and helpful. Although it seemed to be a place more for young adults to stay, we had no problems as a family of four. Cleaning was fine although one day the cleaners were having a bad day and screaming horrible things at each other right outside our room. They raised quite a […] row, but that seemed to be an isolated incident. Hot water was plentiful for bathing. Very simple, with futons on the floor. We had non-smoking rooms and they did not smell of smoke at all, which we appreciated. We slept very well with almost no noise from the outside. We would definitely stay there again. The hotel is located near Ikebukuro station which is a plus. There are many restaurants nearby. The hotel staffs are friendly, but one complain. Even I put "Do not disturb " sign on the door, a maid opened the door without knocking. I was surprised. I have stayed many hotels in Tokyo in this price range.I think that the size of room is very much the […] same compare to other hotels. This hotel has coin laundry which is very convenient. Also, it has 24hour open cafe. There is no outlet in the bathroom. "Not a Hotel."
I realize it says "Hotel" in the name, but this is primarily a Hostel. If you are traveling with family, don't stay here. If you are shy, don't stay here. If you are messy or unorganized.... Don't stay here! The hostel room I was in had 4 Bunk beds (8 beds) and not much room for anything else. There's an area downstairs to store your luggage if it […] doesnt fit at the end of the beds, or under them. But if you aren't shy, messy/unorganized, or with a close group, this is an awesome place to stay because you meet so many new people and make so many friends! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Convenient, friendly hotel, just 3 blocks from a major subway and JR Rail station. Small room but quiet, good for sleeping. Friendly staff and guests - kind of a hostel atmosphere even though I had a private room. Free and fast ethernet internet with wifi on first floor. 24 hour cafe in hotel annex across the street. Ikebukuro is not the top guidebook […] destination but it's a busy, thriving neighborhood with many restaurants, bars, and a large department store. I would definitely return to the Sakura. "Good location and great for budget travelers."
Quite easy to find the hotel even though it is quite a quiet place. Near to amenities and Ikebukuro Station (about 5 minutes walk). Hotel has two buildings and is quite well maintained. TV is Japanese only unless you pay for English movies for 1000 yen each day. Great for solo travelers on budget. Don't expect views from window, just a nice room to […] rest after a long day of visiting. Queen bed is great, but walkway is narrow in the room. Showering and toilet facilities are great (even has high tech toilet). Especially like the easy to adjust temperature setting for the showering. Wireless internet is decent. "Air conditioner problem"
The hotel's air conditioner is central-controlled. Therefore, there is no way to adjust temperature internally. The only way to adjust is to open door and window. What is even worth, my window'lock was damaged so I couldn't open my window at all. After calling hotel clerk, the only suggestion for me is to open the door and turn on/off air conditioner […] whenever I am hot or cold. This is really terrible during sleeping. I couldn't even image how terrible it would be if there is fire or earthquake. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Does the job"
Hotel staff were a bit dismissive and the food was overpriced. The hotel, however, was close enough to the train station and other amenities. Not a great place for meeting new people, though it was never advertised as a hostel. That being said, it wasn't exactly a warm environment, merely a place to rest one's head.Genuine Expedia guest review
i was first checked into a 4-bedded dorm and it was very clean, comfy and each bed has a curtain to give some privacy. HOwever when i checked in the 2nd time on my last day in Japan, I was given a 6-bedded dorm and it was a horrible experience. The room is so small there is hardly any space to put luggage for all 6 persons. I believed it was a foam […] mattress which is only about 3" thick and literally when lying down, one can feel the metal bed frame which was old and creaky by the way. Although all bed has a personal light, there was no curtain at all to give a semblance of privacy. The space in the this room is really not suitable for 6-bedded. Room not that clean. Walls need painting. Noise from neighbors. Hard to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
This was a great stay in Tokyo. We were near to the station and able to use the JR line to get everywhere we needed during our stay. We stopped at the cafe (part of the hotel) on more than one night too. Our room was small but just what we needed and clean, with fresh towels provided every day.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The twin rooms is nice, but no coffee/tea facilities as in most hotels. Hotel has mix of backpackers, group and family. A busy lobby as the café and internet computers are located there. The café is 24hrs and one can eat there if too lazy to walk to the surrounding. But the location has plenty of eateries and convenience stores nearby, right up to the […] Ikebukuro station. The hotel Sakura is a very basic hotel, this is fine, this is what we were expecting - the room was small but clean - the staff were amazingly friendly and helpful - the hotel had a wonderful community feel to it. "Between hotel and backpacker"
Basic accommodation, OK if you want to save money. It is something between a hotel and a backpacker. They even have a dormitory option, I think. We had a "Japanese style" room, the only way to be 4 in a room with a private shower. So we had mattresses directly on the floor and a relatively short cover (I am not so tall: 6'). Old room, but clean. Free […] internet. Cheap "buffet" breakfast, with white bread toasts, but there was a nice soup. Plenty of restaurants around the hotel. The nearest Airport Limousine stop is 10 minutes walk away. Metro station is 5 minutes away. You go to this hotel, you know what to expect, so I was not disappointed. "Great value basic hotel with friendly staff"
Great basic hotel with a backpacker's feel to it. Guests from all over the world and so there is a cafe offering international cuisine. It's a 24 hr cafe but food is limited to certain times. My room was basic but clean and comfortable. Could have been bigger but this is Tokyo..! In comparison to other hotel prices this is good value. Ikebukuro is […] a great area to stay as the train station is very well connected within Japan and also to the underground and the airport. "Budget price for a budget stay"
The price is lower than average hotel prices. Thus it is more or less not expected to have full hotel comforts. However the lobby is kinda cramped and the fittings in the room kinda cheap. "clean, comfortable, conveniently located"
I was a solo traveller and I stayed in Sakura Hotel Ikebukuro for 4 nights. I stayed in a single room with toilet & bath on the 5th floor. It's a small room, but clean and comfortable. It's located on a side street, so the foot/ vehicle traffic on that street is I stayed there from March 24 to 28, so the weather was fairly cold. The room had a heater, […] so it was nice returning to the hotel after a day of exploring. At the ground floor was the Sakura Cafe. It serves all sorts of drinks (coffee, tea, alcohol) and there's free wifi. The outdoor area was protected from the cold by a thick curtain of transparent plastic (which they pull open in warmer weather). Aside from that, there were soft blankets draped over some chairs in case you needed something to put over your legs for warmth :) A nice friendly touch to the cafe. The staff spoke excellent english, which is immensely helpful to travellers who are not very skilled at Japanese (like me) :-) Around the area are numerous restaurants with a wide price range. There are ramen, tonkatsu, curry shops nearby. Of course, there are convenience stores and vending machines, too. For shopping, the nearest mall is a O1O1 department store (and Tobu inside Ikebukuro station). The walk to and from Ikebukuro station is short and comfortable. I had one rolling luggage. It takes just 5 minutes to the west exit of the train station :) When I visit Tokyo again, I would stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
