Only 18 km (11 mi) south of Cancun International Airport, the sleepy village of Puerto Morelos offers calm contrast to Cancun, and to lively Playa del Carmen, 32 km (20 mi) to the south. "Pretty okay, but there are better choices"
Not bad, but having been in the riviera maya twice in the last 3 months, I know there are better options. The hotel I stayed in in April blew the doors off Dreams... Not even close, for roughly the same price. Dreams biggest plus Is the bar and wait staff. They were extremely friendly and went way above and beyond. The front desk and management however, […] were so-so (slow to respond, not very helpful or flexible). In contrast, during my last stay I felt like the POTUS everywhere I went. They were extremely flexible and willing to do whatever they could to accommodate any request. With regard to food, the specialty restaurants are outstanding. I mean, really, really outstanding. However, the buffet and other options are marginally okay. I found myself eating the same 2-3 items everyday for breakfast and lunch because they were the only things somewhat palatable. The beach is beautiful, the rooms as well, and the cleaning staff do a great job. Again, this hotel is not a bad choice, but I have to think there are several that are at least as good and most likely better. Bottom line: other hotels will do whatever it takes to satisfy each and every guest. Dreams however, came off as thinking they were the best around and didn't really try hard enough... I just got back from a week at the Dreams Riviera Maya Cancun Resort and Spa. I went with my siblings and their families. After reading some of the reviews on Trip Advisor about the service and food quality, I almost backed out of the trip and I am so glad that I didnt!! I realize that no one will agree on everything, but it is hard to not be happy […] at this resort!! I travel every week for work and stay in the top hotels across the country. I am very picky about cleanliness and food quality. The rooms were gorgeous and the maid staff had them sparkling clean every day! The beach and pools were beautiful. In fact, I was just in Hawaii at the Waldorf for 14 days and I think the water here was prettier! The bar service and food quality was outstanding...Especially Eric and Fernando out at the Baracudo bar. There were alot of complaints about room service taking a long time on this website, but it never took over 40 minutes at the busiest times and this is completely normal. "More like 2 star, think waterpark meets ponderosa"
This place is very overrated. Breakfast and lunch I would compare to a mediocre college cafeteria. They call it the world cafe. There is no variety day to day. If you end up eating dinner there you can expect to see the same items from lunch. The best meals we had were the french for dinner and the oceana by the beach (fish tacos). Overall the service […] was just lacking. From the bartenders, the waitstaff, room service, front desk. All I would give two stars. They were borderline disgruntled. If you are looking to go somewhere without kids this is not the place for you. The kids overrun the pools. The spa is very nice. Nice facilities and good service. Prices were on the high end though. The location is far from everything and taxis are very expensive if you want to go to town or golfing or fishing. Seriously approaching or over three figures round trip. "Great hotel but can we party by the sea?"
I gave all the categories a 5 for good reason, it's a great hotel, but I'll use this space to talk about the cons. The beach bar, the pools, the pool bars, all close at 6pm. At 6 pm the place goes to bed, except for the main lobby bar, which is fine, but can't see the ocean or feel the breeze. There is also a "club" that stays open, but it's loud, […] smokey, and obnoxious like a club should be. Why does your beach bar close at 6pm? Also, after 11pm, everywhere closes for food, so if you want food, you have to go back to your room and order room service, which has a minimum of 1 hour to get food. I found it very annoying I couldn't have some snacks w/ my drinks in the lobby bar. Again, why do you close everything? It forces way too many people into a confined lobby bar. Why!?!?!? Really enjoyed our trip. We had a preferred club OV room on the second level. Only complaint with the room was that our ocean "view" was pretty limited due to us being on the second floor and in one of the more set-back buildings. If we were on the 3rd-5th floors this wouldn't have been an issue. The food was outstanding, by far the best i've ever had […] at any all-inclusive, including 5 star resorts. The service was phenomenal. Easy 15 minute cab ride from the airport. Would absolutely come back and look forward to it. The only word of caution: do NOT fall for the AV Vacation Club pitch where they offer you free nights or spa credits. "Excellent hotel,don't waste money on WiFi"
We just came back from a one week stay at the Dreams Riviera Cancun,and we had a great time. The check in process was a little slow,but the glass of champagne made it a lot more enjoyable.The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained,very nice and clean. Our room was ocean view on the forth floor,it was nice and clean. There was never a shortage of towels […] by the pool,which seemed to be a problem with other resorts we stayed in.The staff will put a folded towel by each chair at the pool which I felt to be very nice thing. The resturants were great,especially the French it's food and quality of service was top notch,we actually went back twice to eat there so we can try more of their amazing food.The Asian resturant was our least favorite, the food was ok,but the place was too loud for our taste. The night entertainment was great, different programs,multiple artists,over all there was something for everyone. The only thing we didn't like was the WiFi service,I had to answer some emails and make some phone calls while we were there, and it was almost impossible to do..the service was extremely slow the emails will take an hour to open which was really frustrating after we were charged a good amount of money to use that service. "You should read before you go"
I have rated this hotel as 3 because as long as I had positive experiences during our vacation there; such as really good food, quality drinks at the bar, clean property, it was offset by several very disappointing factors; limited to extreme number of chairs at the pool( people have to get to them really early in the morning to reserve one or several, […] otherwise around 9-10 it will none available) the second disappointing factor was a sound proof of the rooms you can literally hear what is going on in adjacent rooms up and the sideways, as well as the corridor and thirdly, but it was a vacation spoiler the fact that at the kids club they are giving away a pager for the parents to be contacted in case of something need to be resolved with a child, but when they tell you that if you loose the pager you will pay a $160, but the pager is water proof, do not trust them you will sign a paper( copy of witch they will not give you) it says that the pagers are actually not water proof, the fact I have learned the hard way and although I have returned the pager they totally denied the fact that they misinform their guest in that regard. "Couldn't ask for better service!"
What a great hotel, rooms are very nice, and staff is super attentive. One morning at breakfast, my daughter wanted blackberry jam for her toast and they only have a few other flavors to choose from. The next day, our waiter from the morning before came over with a few blackberry jams that he had gone to room service to bring back to us. It was so nice […] and I can't believe he had remembered us with how many people come in and out of those resorts. It totally made all of our day just with such a small detail! Waitstaff around the pool is super attentive and friendly. I love the Dreams staff as we have been to three different properties already! One comment I would make since we stayed during a 3 day rainy period, they should have more cards, games and activities set aside to attract different age groups. We had to buy a cheap deck of cards for $10 in the gift shop, and rent a movie. Would have been nice to have some activities to look forward to. The staff we're phenominal. Housekeeping service was sporatic, some days they replaced coffee and items that are supplied, other days they didn't. We used the room Jacuzzi tub one evening and noticed that they didn't clean it for three days. Restaurants and food was great. Overall layout of hotel and facilities including entertainment was top notch. […] The hotel uses Best Day services on site for tours. Would never use them again!!! We advised them that we we're going to book two tours and use the discount offered in their brochure. Three times the repreresentative tryed to bill us regular rate until I threatened to go and retrieve the brochure they initially gave us from my room. Only then did they give us the discount. I stayed at this resort because I was attending a wedding at the same resort. My general day to day experience was exceptional. The room was comfortable. The restaurants and bars were clean and decorated well. Food was pretty good and staff was wonderful (in all aspects). Pools and lawn chairs offered a great view in a relaxing environment. Hotel rooms, pool area and beach are top quality. More privacy in room bath and toilet is needed. Main dining room doesn't have much quality selection and not enough vegetables. Also chairs and floor are quite dirty ... maybe due to the high season. Entertainment is really great with shows every night. Outdoors pool dining is nice when it's not raining […] or when it's not too windy. Great kids program around the clock ... our 8 and 5 year olds were really happy with the kids activities. We didn't even use the club room although we're trying to get away from email and work. We had breakfast at the buffet and got great latte's at the Cafe Coco which are all not part of the club upgrade. It does come with wifi but I couldn't ever get it to work (which in the long run made it a more relaxing vacation). We spend our days on the beach and the service on the beach was fantastic. We do always tip so that may have helped. They did give us top shelf liquor when we asked... never took too long to bring you drinks on the beach even though they are trudging through sand. There were a LOT of small children, many babies and toddlers. It may have been the time of year (1st week of December). The entertainment seemed tuned more towards young families with children but it was also nice not to be asked all the time if we wanted to do water aerobics or stretching, etc. Short walk to the beach from rooms. "Nice resort for couples and families"
We visited this resort at Thanksgiving week. 2 adults and 2 kids. Hotel, food, cleaning and everything around is fine, most of hotel services is on the high level. I was only disapponted by 3 facts: one, that $15 per day internet connection should be paid even in public areas (such as lobby), and reception is awful almost everywhere, expect to wait […] several minuts for websites loading. More or less decent connection is only in a lobby. Reception in our room was zero! The second negative fact was our shower. The shower floor was not even and in a few minutes all water from the shower was out on the floor outside, all are around the sower was wet, we had to collect water with hotel towels and all the time to survive wet floor around...Then, the water in shower itself is very weak, it was very annoying to take it with so weak stream. The shower was not responsive either, if its handle was turned to hot (or cold) you would need to wait a long minute for water to be changed, in order to make a comfortable shower you need to adjust the shower for several minutes before to enter there. Also there are no hooks to hang your clothes on, you can only put it on the bench and off course all immediately became wet...For the money people paying for this resort, the shower should be appropriate, comfortable and must work fine! After spending hours looking for a great honeymoon spot for my husband and I, we decided to snatch up a deal we saw for Dreams Riviera Cancun...and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The staff is so friendly and we could tell right away that they wanted us to get the best out of our honeymoon. They told us we could go have lunch, come back and our room should be ready. We went to the World Cafe and were so happy with the buffet and the food and drinks offered. We would definitely suggest eating at World and Seaside. Both were so good and we wish we would have done dinner at Seaside more. The drinks are incredible, and we were blown away with the beach and pool drink service. The grounds are gorgeous, the pools and hot tubs are clean and the infinity pool has such a beautiful view. We loved laying in the beds and on the hammocks on the beach. We also decided to take a snorkeling trip out onto the 2nd largest coral reef in the world, and that was so worth it. Such a fun experience, and we would recommend that if you have any inclination. "Just ok, probably not return"
There is a "boardwalk" that goes throughout the hotel and is extremely slippery when there is any amount of rain. It would be very helpful if the hotel would put a gritty paint down so people don't slip and fall. This particular hotel is somewhat small compared to others we've stayed in. It almost feels like they "herd" you in the direction they want the guests to be in...the hours of operation for the bars are not great. The restaurants are all very good and they have unlimited food options throughout the day. The staff was very kind, friendly and attentive. They were all great! The spa was incredible and the hydrotherapy is a must! We are a 30 something couple and have traveled quite a bit. We had a great time and met great people but it left us wanting a bit more. Great place with a great staff. I had never done an all-inclusive prior to this trip, so I cannot compare against others. But, as someone who has pretty finely tuned tastes for food, drink, and hospitality, the Dreams Riviera Cancun just failed to ever let me down! I wanted for nothing during my stay. The room set up is terrible for privacy. There is a half wall between your bed/bathroom. When you try to use the bathroom you can hear everything, even in the toilet area. "Good Hotel but Not for Groups!"
We went to this hotel for a destination wedding with many other friends. The hotel was nice, the rooms were clean and generally things were of high quality (pools, beach, linens, drinks, food, other amenities, etc.). If you are going as a couple or a small family I would recommend it, but there are issues if you are planning on going with a group of […] people. Specifically, rules were very inflexible and they were not accommodating for the needs of large groups. We tried several times to eat dinner with about 8-14 people but they would not take reservations or sit tables larger than 6 except in the French restaurant (Bordeaux) where we were required to spend at least $150 extra on wine for a private room that sat up to 18. Also, there was no where for a group of people to congregate late at night. While we made attempts to use the little private room pools, to go out to the beach, or to sit in the lobby area we were always within earshot of hotel rooms and other guests were complaining. This was very troublesome after the wedding reception which ended about 11:30 pm. While we made an effort to be respectful to other guests and the staff was nice and understanding that there was no place for a group to gather late in the evenings, it was still annoying to us (and the other guests) that they had no place for us to go.
