"Second time back"
For 15 yrs we have stayed at various resorts from Cancun to Tulum. This is our 2nd time to Dreams, both times booking 3+ rooms. What we like best is its casual luxury: everything upscale you might want, but casual enough for kids. Second best is size and layout: even at capacity it doesn’t feel crowded. The food and service are among the best we've […] had. The beach is clean and good for swimming though not pretty for walking (unused docks and buildings nearby). My one complaint: there were weddings Every Single Day. One night there were 3 at the same time around the pools (which all rooms face) and the dance music was SO LOUD no one in my family could sleep. The music was literally shaking our (Preferred Club) room. I complained to the VIP concierge, and was told that I was the only person to be bothered by the noise (bad customer service, though I am willing to forgive this mistreatment of a repeat guest because all my other dealings with staff have been great). The next day, we heard several people talking about the loud music the night before, so clearly I was not the "only one" upset. We intentionally selected a high-end resort that is not a "party place" and we feel very strongly that the entire hotel should not be subjected to booming rap music from a private event until 11pm. It really affected the quality of our vacation. If it weren't for this I would return to Dreams again in a heartbeat. It really is a beautiful, well-run resort. "HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE Should be called "Nightmares""
The staff and this hotel were the worst I've ever experienced. I never leave reviews, this is honestly a first for me. And there is a limit to the number of characters I'm allowed to type in this review so I actually don't have room to explain everything, but just for a small reflection of the service... The manager actually told me that since I booked […] through Expedia the hotel had already received my full payment for the stay, so if we left early to change hotels it would be no problem for them. Anyway the room wasn't what we reserved, it was dirty, there was literally no internet access in the room and when I called to let them know the wireless wasn't working in the room they said all of my devices were the reason (2 phones, an iPad and a laptop all of which worked before and after our stay there). We stayed w/ 2 other couples who were also unable to get Internet access and each had their own similar horrible service experiences. We went to the business center to check work related email and were told it was only for "Premium rooms" so we couldn't use their computers. The business center was empty, 4 computers sitting there unattended, AND our reservation was actually for a "premium room" but they didn't have what we reserved when we arrived, so it was really their fault that we weren't in a "premium room" (not that that should matter when the room is empty), but despite all of that we were told we couldn't check our email because my room key wasn't for a "premium. Two improvement areas: (a) Food was average...can certainly improve especially in the World Cafe for Lunch/Dinner and need more Veggie options. The best was really the Pizza slices at the Pool-side […] grill, (b) The road from the highway (307) to the resort entranceway was horrible...it is next to a swampy area with tons of water overflow due to rains and ditches. "Need to fix the entrance road or I won't recommend"
Great facility, compact, comfortable, clean, friendly, HOWEVER, if they don't fix the entrance road, I wouldn't recommend. If you have a medical emergency or need police assistance, there is no way for assistance to get to the hotel from the main highway quickly. We took an off-site excursion, and it took forever to get to the main highway because of […] the condition of the access road. There are dozens of great resorts right on the main road that are more easily accessible, so I would think the ownership of this facility would want to do something quickly. "Not the Mexico I know"
Being half Hispanic and living on a border town in Texas, I guess I had different expectations for Maya Riveria. The food was ok at best. Very blan and flavorless. The only "good" food was at the restaurants that catered to a specific cuisine. I found it astonishing how difficult it was to find SEAFOOD at an ocean front resort. Also, I believe the alcohol […] was either watered down or not top shelf, possibly both. I am by no means an alcoholic but after 7 drinks I expected some sort of buzz. The only place I actually caught one was at the swim up bar with Danny (awesome bartender). I was disappointed that we had no liquor in our rooms (aside from 4 pony coronas in the mini fridge) and the only way to get a drink was to go out in the resort and visit any bar which meant u had to tip. Tip Tip Tip was the name of the game. Being all inclusive we still spend several hundreds of dollars over the week tipping everyone for everything. Any thing was that there were pools that were supposed to be adult only and that didn't happen. Kids all over the place. I love kids but not on my vacation. "Pretty okay, but there are better choices"
Not bad, but having been in the riviera maya twice in the last 3 months, I know there are better options. The hotel I stayed in in April blew the doors off Dreams... Not even close, for roughly the same price. Dreams biggest plus Is the bar and wait staff. They were extremely friendly and went way above and beyond. The front desk and management however, […] were so-so (slow to respond, not very helpful or flexible). In contrast, during my last stay I felt like the POTUS everywhere I went. They were extremely flexible and willing to do whatever they could to accommodate any request. With regard to food, the specialty restaurants are outstanding. I mean, really, really outstanding. However, the buffet and other options are marginally okay. I found myself eating the same 2-3 items everyday for breakfast and lunch because they were the only things somewhat palatable. The beach is beautiful, the rooms as well, and the cleaning staff do a great job. Again, this hotel is not a bad choice, but I have to think there are several that are at least as good and most likely better. Bottom line: other hotels will do whatever it takes to satisfy each and every guest. Dreams however, came off as thinking they were the best around and didn't really try hard enough... I just got back from a week at the Dreams Riviera Maya Cancun Resort and Spa. I went with my siblings and their families. After reading some of the reviews on Trip Advisor about the service and food quality, I almost backed out of the trip and I am so glad that I didnt!! I realize that no one will agree on everything, but it is hard to not be happy […] at this resort!! I travel every week for work and stay in the top hotels across the country. I am very picky about cleanliness and food quality. The rooms were gorgeous and the maid staff had them sparkling clean every day! The beach and pools were beautiful. In fact, I was just in Hawaii at the Waldorf for 14 days and I think the water here was prettier! The bar service and food quality was outstanding...Especially Eric and Fernando out at the Baracudo bar. There were alot of complaints about room service taking a long time on this website, but it never took over 40 minutes at the busiest times and this is completely normal. They would bring anything you wanted, even a bottle of wine to sip on the balcony with an appetizer before going out to dinner. I would recommend this hotel to anyone! This place is very overrated. Breakfast and lunch I would compare to a mediocre college cafeteria. They call it the world cafe. There is no variety day to day. If you end up eating dinner there you can expect to see the same items from lunch. The best meals we had were the french for dinner and the oceana by the beach (fish tacos). Overall the service […] was just lacking. From the bartenders, the waitstaff, room service, front desk. All I would give two stars. They were borderline disgruntled. If you are looking to go somewhere without kids this is not the place for you. The kids overrun the pools. The spa is very nice. Nice facilities and good service. Prices were on the high end though. The location is far from everything and taxis are very expensive if you want to go to town or golfing or fishing. Seriously approaching or over three figures round trip. "Great hotel but can we party by the sea?"
I gave all the categories a 5 for good reason, it's a great hotel, but I'll use this space to talk about the cons. The beach bar, the pools, the pool bars, all close at 6pm. At 6 pm the place goes to bed, except for the main lobby bar, which is fine, but can't see the ocean or feel the breeze. There is also a "club" that stays open, but it's loud, […] smokey, and obnoxious like a club should be. Why does your beach bar close at 6pm? Also, after 11pm, everywhere closes for food, so if you want food, you have to go back to your room and order room service, which has a minimum of 1 hour to get food. I found it very annoying I couldn't have some snacks w/ my drinks in the lobby bar. Again, why do you close everything? It forces way too many people into a confined lobby bar. Why!?!?!? Otherwise, the hotel is pristine. The staff is amazing, the hotel was clean, every bathroom was top notch, cleaned probably every 10 minutes. Food was tasty, drinks were great and easily available. "Awesome All Inclusive Getaway"
Really enjoyed our trip. We had a preferred club OV room on the second level. Only complaint with the room was that our ocean "view" was pretty limited due to us being on the second floor and in one of the more set-back buildings. If we were on the 3rd-5th floors this wouldn't have been an issue. The food was outstanding, by far the best i've ever had […] at any all-inclusive, including 5 star resorts. The service was phenomenal. Easy 15 minute cab ride from the airport. Would absolutely come back and look forward to it. The only word of caution: do NOT fall for the AV Vacation Club pitch where they offer you free nights or spa credits. "Excellent hotel,don't waste money on WiFi"
We just came back from a one week stay at the Dreams Riviera Cancun,and we had a great time. The check in process was a little slow,but the glass of champagne made it a lot more enjoyable.The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained,very nice and clean. Our room was ocean view on the forth floor,it was nice and clean. There was never a shortage of towels […] by the pool,which seemed to be a problem with other resorts we stayed in.The staff will put a folded towel by each chair at the pool which I felt to be very nice thing. The resturants were great,especially the French it's food and quality of service was top notch,we actually went back twice to eat there so we can try more of their amazing food.The Asian resturant was our least favorite, the food was ok,but the place was too loud for our taste. The night entertainment was great, different programs,multiple artists,over all there was something for everyone. The only thing we didn't like was the WiFi service,I had to answer some emails and make some phone calls while we were there, and it was almost impossible to do..the service was extremely slow the emails will take an hour to open which was really frustrating after we were charged a good amount of money to use that service. "You should read before you go"
I have rated this hotel as 3 because as long as I had positive experiences during our vacation there; such as really good food, quality drinks at the bar, clean property, it was offset by several very disappointing factors; limited to extreme number of chairs at the pool( people have to get to them really early in the morning to reserve one or several, […] otherwise around 9-10 it will none available) the second disappointing factor was a sound proof of the rooms you can literally hear what is going on in adjacent rooms up and the sideways, as well as the corridor and thirdly, but it was a vacation spoiler the fact that at the kids club they are giving away a pager for the parents to be contacted in case of something need to be resolved with a child, but when they tell you that if you loose the pager you will pay a $160, but the pager is water proof, do not trust them you will sign a paper( copy of witch they will not give you) it says that the pagers are actually not water proof, the fact I have learned the hard way and although I have returned the pager they totally denied the fact that they misinform their guest in that regard. "Great all around family resort."
Just want to start off by saying I am not one to leave reviews but, I must say this is a must I have been to many places and me my wife and my 1 year old just got back from a week of fun in the sun. If you are like me you are reading reviews every day to see what people are saying about the hotel you want stay at, well all in all this is a great hotel […] that caters to children great beach, great kids club and pool . There was a couple of things that where a little off but nothing to wright about. Book this hotel especially if you have kids food great , pool great (heated) , beach great clean , nice grounds, and safe , also 20 min from the airport. "Great hotel for adults and children"
It was the finest all inclusive. the kids activities were great but not overwhelming for the adults without children. the hotel decor in the lobby, restaurants, rooms and pool area were just beautiful. the restaurant staff was wonderful. everyone was friendly. the transfer from and to airport went so smooth.Genuine Expedia guest review

The hotel, beach, and pools lived up to the pictures. Pool was well heated and comfortable in February. Nice amount of activities and shows for family entertainment. "Couldn't ask for better service!"
What a great hotel, rooms are very nice, and staff is super attentive. One morning at breakfast, my daughter wanted blackberry jam for her toast and they only have a few other flavors to choose from. The next day, our waiter from the morning before came over with a few blackberry jams that he had gone to room service to bring back to us. It was so nice […] and I can't believe he had remembered us with how many people come in and out of those resorts. It totally made all of our day just with such a small detail! Waitstaff around the pool is super attentive and friendly. I love the Dreams staff as we have been to three different properties already! One comment I would make since we stayed during a 3 day rainy period, they should have more cards, games and activities set aside to attract different age groups. We had to buy a cheap deck of cards for $10 in the gift shop, and rent a movie. Would have been nice to have some activities to look forward to. "Would stay here again!!!"
The staff we're phenominal. Housekeeping service was sporatic, some days they replaced coffee and items that are supplied, other days they didn't. We used the room Jacuzzi tub one evening and noticed that they didn't clean it for three days. Restaurants and food was great. Overall layout of hotel and facilities including entertainment was top notch. […] The hotel uses Best Day services on site for tours. Would never use them again!!! We advised them that we we're going to book two tours and use the discount offered in their brochure. Three times the repreresentative tryed to bill us regular rate until I threatened to go and retrieve the brochure they initially gave us from my room. Only then did they give us the discount. "Friends and Fun - Wedding"
I stayed at this resort because I was attending a wedding at the same resort. My general day to day experience was exceptional. The room was comfortable. The restaurants and bars were clean and decorated well. Food was pretty good and staff was wonderful (in all aspects). Pools and lawn chairs offered a great view in a relaxing environment. I thought […] the food at the wedding could have been better. I wasn't pleased. I also thought the staff hurried you while you were eating (perhaps it was because there were many courses?). "Great Family Resort"
Hotel rooms, pool area and beach are top quality. More privacy in room bath and toilet is needed. Main dining room doesn't have much quality selection and not enough vegetables. Also chairs and floor are quite dirty ... maybe due to the high season. Entertainment is really great with shows every night. Outdoors pool dining is nice when it's not raining […] or when it's not too windy. Great kids program around the clock ... our 8 and 5 year olds were really happy with the kids activities. "great family hotel"
it is very kids friendly place. there are lots of activities offered for kids. food was ok.. always long wait and Hibachi(only two grill tables) is impossible unless you have to wait 30 min in the line for reservation. place is clean... we had three power outages and no water for awhile during our stay though.Genuine Expedia guest review

"horrible for couples"
My wife went there as "one last trip before the baby comes" - it was awful - it was so loud with kids running down the halls, loud music in the AM from the hotel restaurants and the horrible beach - seaweed all over - you couldn't step 2 feet without having some wrapped around your leg...I would never go backGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great hotel, very relaxing"
My husband and I travel to Mexico a few times a year. This was our first time in Puerto Morelos but our 4th time to a Dreams Resort. We loved the resort and upgraded our room when we got there to a 5th level room with the "club" benefits and the hot tub on the balcony. The room was beautiful as were the views. I don't think the club benefits are truly […] worth the money unless you want to do a lot of work while you're there. We didn't even use the club room although we're trying to get away from email and work. We had breakfast at the buffet and got great latte's at the Cafe Coco which are all not part of the club upgrade. It does come with wifi but I couldn't ever get it to work (which in the long run made it a more relaxing vacation). We spend our days on the beach and the service on the beach was fantastic. We do always tip so that may have helped. They did give us top shelf liquor when we asked... never took too long to bring you drinks on the beach even though they are trudging through sand. There were a LOT of small children, many babies and toddlers. It may have been the time of year (1st week of December). The entertainment seemed tuned more towards young families with children but it was also nice not to be asked all the time if we wanted to do water aerobics or stretching, etc. Short walk to the beach from rooms.
