The hotel was fantastic from beginning to end. When we arrived in the lobby, we were greeted with drinks in traditional resort fashion. They just finished their agreement with HYATT that 3rd week of December and some internal problems as expected happened with system and maintenance. We really hope they will continue with HYATT standards since is a great installation and really a good place to rest and enjoy with friends and family. As a caveat, my girlfriend and I (mid 20 young professionals) booked this hotel assuming Hyatt ownership. Upon arrival, we were informed via a family we shared a cab with that the ownership has changed to Benchmark Hospitality Group and was renamed Santa Barbara Resort. However, aesthetics of the resort complex as well as service was aligned with what […] we originally assumed we booked (we tend to be very particular with the hotels we choose typically preferring boutique/trendy hotels) and were overall very pleased. Lovely resort secluded ~20 minutes away from the main city Willemstad on a very large old quarry surrounded by arid land, a nice golf course and beautiful water (sea and bay). Seclusion means not much to do but sip Caiparinhas on the beach, perfect for couples and families (mostly families while we were there). However, if you are looking for a South Beach or Ibiza atmosphere, Jan Thiel (15 minute taxi) has some nice lounges/clubs. Beach was not the quintessential Caribbean beach (i.e. Aruba, Bahamas, Jamaica) but was still very nice, secluded in a protected portion of the lagoon adjacent to the sea with nice clear blue waters. The beach was lined with beautiful small trees to escape the heat every so often and had servers running around serving cocktails and snacks all day. It's quite isolated from the city and other sites, but if you are after a nice beach, with some OK snorkelling, a great pool and fantastic rooms and service then this is a great option. The Beach: Absolutely gorgeous. The beach offers many private places to relax and also offers a pool area which always has something going on. There are also abundant places to sit in the shade if you need a break from the sun. The hotel also has opportunities to participate in many water sports and activities. The hotel offers four areas to eat: (1) the pool bar which features bar food (burgers, fries, sandwiches) during the day, (2) Medi Restaurant which offers breakfast ($26 per person for the buffet if its not included!) and equally expensive lunches and dinners, (3) a steak and seafood restaurant that costs even more, and (4) a small shop/restaurant called Bella Italia which offers wonderful gellato, pizzas, and sandwhiches. Bella Italia is by far the most affordable restaurant on the island and is the best suited for feeding children. There are no convenient alternatives since the hotel is quite isolated. The rooms feature fridges but no microwaves so its hard to bring leftovers back. The Room: The balcony, bed and other items in the room are very comfortable and well designed. However, the bathroom doesn't exactly offer privacy. There is a separate room for the toilet with a sliding door, but the sink and shower are exposed without a bathroom door. Additionally, the shower is only partially enclosed and does not have a door. The hotel staff calls this a "sexy shower" but it is very cold since there is nothing to block the AC airflow and it will also be hard to get into for many guests. Entering the shower requires a step up and there is only a handle on one side. The other side is a clear glass panel which cannot be grabbed. The building and on-site facilities are what you expect of a Hyatt. It's a massive resort, complete with golf course, marina, and several good restaurant options. The floors alternate between polished sandstone and marble tile, and the balconies have gorgeous views. Some of the facilities are underwhelming. The two freeform olympic sized kiddie pools […] don't get deeper than 4.5 feet. While the hotel is ocean front, the "beach" is on the narrow riverway leading to the harbor. It's 30 feet from shore to a four foot high pontoon bridge, so you can't see anything except for the bridge when you're in the water. The water is a bit cloudy, and there's no snorkeling. The Caribbean sea is only viewable from far away, as there is no walkway to the coral laden shore at all. Th service is mediocre - not what I expect from a Hyatt. There is no transportation into Williamstead, a wonderful city and UNESCO world heritage site. To get a ride to the airport, you have to schedule 48 hours in advance for the privilege of paying $32 per person. When we came about 30 hours in advance, they told us it could not be done. At other times we had asked for slight additional conveniences to which they were not accommodating (though to be fair, they didn't have to be). Also, and I realize this doesn't matter to everyone, but it seemed that very few people working at the Hyatt were from Curacao. We met Phillappinos, Antiguans, Chinese, and Indians, but the only time we met real Curacaoans was when we snuck on the employee shuttle to get a ride to the main road to take a car to the airport. We had stayed the other half of our stay at Kura Hulanda lodge in Westpunt, which was what you expect from a luxury resort hotel. The beach was on the Caribbean sea, had great snorkeling, and you could watch the sunset or look back at the bluffs in that part of the island. Het was een heerlijke, bijna onwerkelijke ervaring om wakker te worden met uitzicht op witte stranden, blauwe zee en palmbomen. Het Hyatt is een hotel met respect voor de gasten en dat voel je bij alles wat je doet en waar je bent.
