"Think Corporate Ryokan" Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on Feb 15, 2013

Designed to function like a Ryokan, the hotel has a distinctive Japanese feel, but the feeling is still a bit corporate. We bought the room without the meal plan, so I can't evaluate the food. The one thing I can say is there are very few eating options outside the hotel, and the hotel was not helpful in identifying good restaurants. It is almost as if the town decided all visitors must eat at a hotel with a meal plan. The meal plans offered through Hotels.com were $75 per person, and about $90 per person if we bought it after the fact. We did find a couple restaurants. Both old, very small (3 tables) japanese style Mom and Pops, where mom and pop literally live upstairs. The food was good and clearly home cooked, and about $10 bucks. No breakfast options other than Lawson or 7-11. The one outstanding feature was the onsen. On the 7th floor, the views from the onsen were fabulous. The inside onsen was glassed in with full views of the city. The outside onsens had half glassed in railings. It made for a beautiful view of the village. You could see all the way to the ski resorts. All in all, a good place to stay. Just wish they had better dining options.
