B Hakata was the first of six hotels that we stayed in Japan. Although the room was tiny, it was comfortable for two adults and clean. Room sizes are typical for japan, but styling and cleanliness was very nice. The beds were a bit firm, but not too bad. Location is right down the street from Hakata station which made finding meals easy and close to transportation. Laundry machines are available on the 2nd floor which was great for our extended stay in Japan.

Here's the thing: If you're a business hotel, you should have 'high speed' internet (let alone one that is faster than a roadside stand in Laos). The (hardwired) internet connectivity in this hotel is absolutely abysmal. We're talking almost 700 msecs (i.e. almost a full second) to hit the local router (which is on the same floor), let alone the public […] internet (a 56k modem is faster). Since it's the wiring in the walls (I used 5 different cables myself in testing), there's not much they can do except a full rewire. Read more

The b hakata is an overnight stay or business traveler type of hotel. The double room we had was pretty small--a queen size mattress in the room, but only about three feet of room along side the bed from the door to the window, and barely two feet of room at the foot of the bed. There was a small work desk with a drawer, but no dresser or drawers for […] our clothes--just one small half-sized closet with 4 wooden hangers, so we basically lived out of our suitcase. The bathroom was elevated above the floor, so you had to remember to step up should you need to use the western style toilet during the night. There was a small furo type tub you could bathe in, and a flexible shower head. Like the bathroom itself, you had to remember to step up into the tub, or you would bang your knee against the tub, which I painfully did twice. The hotel itself and room amenities are very up-to-date and contemporary, the front desk staff spoke some English and were most courteous and knowledgable. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet put out by the hotel was reasonably priced at 700 yen and provided the basics to get you started--green salad, scrambled eggs, toast, rice, breakfast meat, miso soup, coffee, tea. The Hakata rail station is about a two block walking distance, and there are numerous convenience stores and shops nearby, but most of the best gift shopping and eating options are at the rail station. Despite the price, I would probably not stay here again due to room size and small bathroom. Read more

We stayed in Hakata for one night before taking the ferry to South Korea. The b Hakata is located near the train station, which also has ready access to buses to the International Ferry Terminal. The room was small, which we are accustomed to in Japan but the window looked out to the wall of an adjoining building, which was OK for one night.

I had read another review before booking that said the room was super small and which warned against staying there, but the price was significantly lower than the others, so I couldn't pass it up. Anyway, since I'm accustomed to small places in Asia, the room was fine for me. I could have stayed there comfortably with a wife if I had one. There was […] a small LCD TV on the desk which had an okay number of channels. They also had a decent selection of pay-per-view channels. They had a couple Korean, Chinese, French and German movies and the rest were either Japanese or English. (Of course they also had many adult movies.) It should be noted that the system resets AROUND noon (but not exactly noon) so you should wait until about 1PM to activate the card you can purchase in the hallway to watch movies for 1000 yen. Then you can watch unlimited movies for about 24 hours. They have an okay breakfast that you can purchase from the front desk for 700 yen. The front desk staff is pretty friendly, but their English is kind of minimal. They seemed to be very unaccustomed to speaking, although their listening comprehension was good enough. The lobby has a single laptop for guest use (which wasn't in too much demand), but they play a terrible jazz piece over and over that sounds so cheesy and dated (like you'd hear in a fifties detective drama) and it drove me crazy. You also have to stand to use the laptop, so it's a bit uncomfortable. In-room massage is also available and not too outrageously priced. It was done by a grandma who didn't know any English but did an okay massage. Overall it was a good experience. The city was so expensive and since I couldn't read anything or talk to anyone, I spent a lot of time just bumming around the hotel. I'd recommend it unless you're super picky or claustrophobic. Booked non smoking room, but this hotel gave me a smoking room. Then its stuff changed to an non smoking room for me. I simply can't stand for the smell of it's smoking room.
