The hotel is overpriced (as is most everything in Australia), but better to pay a bit extra for the Reef View and actually enjoy what you are looking at, versus trying to save a few bucks and staying at the bungalows. I can't wait to go back to Hamilton Island, but would probably look for an alternative place to stay -- preferably a place with a kitchen. (Restaurants are very pricey....) The best part of the hotel was the external elevator -- the views from the upper floors (up to 19) were breathtaking. (Our room was on the 1st floor.). Why they didn't put a restaurant […] up there is beyond me. We were only there for 3 days, but were surprised when the room service was merely to exchange the towels -- they didn't even vacuum and the sand we brought in to the (awesome) shower was there the whole time. There was a dead bug in our hallway the entire 3 days (back to nature?!). The room was huge, but there weren't drawers for clothes. The people at the reception and the concierge and excursion desk were outstanding. I would stay there again just to be on Hamilton Island, but only after looking for alternatives. Read more

I would recommend staying on Hamilton Island to family and friends. The location and accommodations were everything we expected. The entire hotel staff and affiliated concessions/businesses were very friendly, helpful, and professional. The condition of the surrounding areas was clean and well kept. First trip to Hamilton Island and Reef view made it magic! We got a king room on the 13th floor that overlooked the ocean, it was breath taking to wake up to that view every morning. The Reef view is a great hotel on Hamilton Island. Do not go for the garden view spend the extra and opt for the reef view it is so worth it. Breakfast is a bit pricey, but this is Hamilton Island so nothing is "cheap"

Very disappointed in the Hotel, and definitely do not think that it deserves it's 4-star status. Facilities were well below par and overall the Hotel looks old and tired - peeling paint, stained carpet, torn curtains, stained bed linen......and the list goes on. smooth, amazing hotel, I travel a lot for work and it was the little things that made this such a pleasure. The staff were relaxed, friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful and the staff did not display the usual intimidating nature of a large hotel. The food in both venues was both fresh and interesting and suited even my most fussy eater. The dinner buffet in the hotel was awe inspiring, I will I had the capacity to eat more as I really wanted to try most of the food. But settled instead on the favorite of most travellers - the King Prawns. Fresh and delicious. Sitting by the pool in the restaurant, with the lights adorning the pool gave a magical atmosphere with staff that were efficient and friendly. I really would love to go again to the facility, But this time I would pack more clothes. I think my swimmer and shorts didn't stack up to the dressier night time activities that were planned. But we did go to relax by the pool, and this is exactly what we did, and did very successfully, As a short note, airport transfers, check in and check out were the simplest I have ever come across. The staff were fantastic and very helpful. This is an older hotel but non the less clean and comfortable. The bed mattress was fantastic. It is so close to the Marina and the bus system is wonderful. All in all made for a really enjoyable holiday. I would stay there again.

The hotel was good and the staff was helpful regarding the check out time. I just think they need a renovation and the room was not that clean. But overall I recommended it, specially because I went to Hamilton island to enjoy the place and the nature not to check if there is mold, stains.. For sure I want to stay in clean room (that's what I'm paying […] for) but but not to be complaining about everything. Because if we want to find dirty spots we'll find in any hotel, even in the 6 stars. I say that because I've worked for 2 years in a famous hotel and I know what I'm talking about. The best thing about this place is the roominess of the rooms and the outstanding views from the sizeable balcony. With 14 and 15-year-old boys on hand, we had some concerns about squeezing in to a single room. Not to worry. I was thrilled to be upgraded to beach Club on my arrival at Hamilton Island. I know it was probably a random selection, but you have no idea what it meant to me. I am a Disability Pensioner and I've had a very hard year. This upgrade for the two nights that I had booked in (with a Jetstar Gift Voucher from my son for Christmas), made me really happy […] and I had a wonderful 2.5 days. I would love to come back, but doubt I can afford Beach Club, but I have alread recommended it to everyone I know. An especial thanks to your staff member who met me at the airport, Lisa (I think her name is, dark hair used to work at Reef View she told me) for going out of her way on several occasions, to help me, and even driving me out to the lookout when I wasn't well enough to drive a hire buggy. As per the cleanliness, you expect a much better service at this price: parts of the bathroom with uncleaned moist, top of the furniture with dust, painting to be renovated. The only happy thing was the snorkelling catamaran sailing trip to Whitehaven we made for the equivalent of your room price, including lunch but not beverage. My wife's luggage was left behind in Sydney and the hotel did everything to get it there the next day in time for a wedding.Because the island is owned by one company everything is very expensive. […] Don't get ill because you will be charged an arm and a leg. Pros: Great location, only a few minutes walk to the beach and wildlife park. Also able to walk to the general store in 10minutes. Room was clean and had a huge bathroom! For a four star hotel I was disappointed. The first night we were put in a room right beside the elevator which runs outside the building and was woken up all night by the dings. The next morning I asked to be moved and it took nearly two hours for a supervisor to contact us with no apology for the wait. As you can imagine we were keen to see the island. […] The service staff at reception lacked proper training and were young and inexperienced. Our room was cleaned most days but we ran out of toilet paper twice and we were woken up up 8 on a sunday by a cleaner! She was talking on the top.of her lungs with a friend down the corridor and wasn't paying attention when we asked her to come back later. Again the lack the training was evident. The hotel itself is in desperate need of refurbishment and maintence. Holes in walls in the corridors by the elevators and mould in the bathrooms. The design of the corridors was NOISY especially the mini bar trolley. The breakfast menu at the hotel was a rip off 70.00 for two hot breakfasts. Highway robbery! Very dissappointing indeed. Management need to step up at the Reef View Hotel immediately. Read more

The Reef View Hotel is rated 4 star. This would have been the case in 1995! We have rather mixed feelings about this hotel and our time spent there. We spent 6 days and 5 nights at the Reef View last week. (July 2011) The Pro's: Great location overlooking Catseye Beach Easy walk to marina (only one short, steep hill) The pool is very lovely & large […] and well maintained, the lounge chairs are comfortable. The rooms are large & spacious. Views from the Coral Sea rooms are spectacular. Most of the food is quite good, and prices are reasonable. The Cons: The rooms really need refurbishment, as they are quite dated. The large fabric chairs in our room were dusty and stained. The carpet needed dry cleaning. The mattresses are plastic covered and there is inadequate coverage with mattress protectors and sheeting, leaving you to wake up hot and sweaty if the bottom sheet moves. Housekeeping is often haphazard. There was no Room Service menu in our room. The breakfast cards are outdated, and state at the bottom that they should be left outside the room by 8.30pm. We did this but no breakfast arrived! Housekeeping staff woke us at 8.15am on a Sunday morning to clean the room. On one occasion, the housekeeping staff did not pull the door shut after they had serviced the room. We don't know if we will return to Hamilton Island. We would possibly return to the Reef View if it were to be refurbished. Read more
