The Alpha Hotel was perfect for our needs as we were wanting to stay in the Turreranong area. The hotel room was good size, the staff were friendly and the car park was close by. I would certainly stay at this hotel again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pretty Average Really"
The room was comfortable enough and of a reasonable size with a reasonable fitout - the cleanliness was not as good as hoped and the mould on the sheer curtain a bit ordinary. The hotel "free" internet was a meagre 15mb which was a letdown compared the free tag on this site. Probably stay elsewhere next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel for a wedding"
Considering we only slept in the room I was really impressed with the hotel and the room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Nice motel but the asphalt in driveway would of been more comfortable to sleep onGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fits the bill"
Good choice if you are planning to visit Canberra for few days. Not a central location but most landmarks in Canberra are only 20-25 mins aaway.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Basic, standard hotel"
It's just a basic chain hotel, nothing especially good or bad about it. Does what you expect from a chain hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
It was OK but is it usual to charge a refundable room bond of $100.00? Understandable a CC imprint just in case but,,,I had booked 2 rooms.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
the hotel was under going renovations at the time of my stay, but it was quiet, he staff were friendly, and it was very clean. top notch.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Just wanted a restful night!!!"
ROOM really pleasant, clean and attractive; Large tv great; staff helpful. (Gave me a bowl&spoon for my own muesli!!) The HEATING was difficult as the electric blankets were difficult to understand & switch on, but the staff came to assist me; Also, the air conditioner was hard to turn on and then , I couldnt turn it off and it kept coming on during […] the night, waking me up each time!! The whole point of me staying there was to get a good night's sleep before assisting a sick relative for a week!!!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Time to renovate"
The room was reasonable and clean. The bed was very comfortable. There is a tired look about the place outside and in the passageways and it is in need of renovation. It was a good place to stay for our purposes.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very friendly staff and excellent service. clean bed sheets.Genuine Expedia guest review
Was good overall but hot water ran out after 10 mins. A little dissapointing to be woken before 7am by an extremely loud alarm and not being informed by hotel staff as to why or what was going on?Genuine Expedia guest review
The hotel was good. They were doing renovations so a a big worn down in pool area. The plans look great though. We were awoken to the fire alarm one morning veey early false alarm. No apology or explanation.Genuine Expedia guest review
Never will I star here again. Nothing was up to scratch and the service was appalling! Over priced, I could go on for hours....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Oasis in the ACT"
Great place to stay. Room was spotless and the bed was perfect. It was 39 degrees in Canberra so we spent a lot of time in the pool. Would definitely stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Everything it says it is"
This is certainly not the best hotel I have ever stayed in but in terms of price and quality it was as good as its word. Nothing fancy about the place but the rooms were clean and the service was good. There was a large wedding on the night we arrived so the meal service was reduces but there was still a menu that looked fine. Given the proximity to […] a large shopping centre we just went to a local Thai place and got take away - and a bottle of wine from the discount liquor store. We thought we would be in for a noisy night due to the wedding but didn't hear a thing. It is out of the centre of Canberra but is easy to get into and out of if driving. It was only about 20 minutes to get right out of town and onto the highway Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The motel is obviously set up for business travellers. The restaurant was not open on weekends. Otherwise amenities are OK.Genuine Expedia guest review
The comfort , condition and overall service of this Hotel is wonderful. The only complaint that I have is the breakfast. Terrible, Terrible. Hot food was cold and like glue. It seemed that it had been in baymaree for hours on end and they didn't seem to be keeping everything hot. The only good thing was the fresh fruit. The price for full breakfast […] was a bit pricey for the condition of the food. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Somewhere to stay in Tuggeranong"
09/17/14 Schlepper1939 Lennox Head, Australia
Overall I would class this as a comfortable country hotel. The air conditioner was not working in the first room we were put into so we had to change rooms after unpacking in the first room. Before this was done we were given a heater to use! The room was pleasant enough with a comfortable bed, adequate toiletries and good towels. As we checked in on a Sunday, the restaurant was not open and we were directed to the Viking Club next door. ( Obviously the hotel caters to public servants mainly as the restaurant is only open four nights a week) If you need to be in the Tuggeranong area the hotel is well placed on the edge of the central business district. Being in the ACT, to enter the club you need to actually join as a member but this is no great problem as 12 months membership costs only $3 and you get more than that in discount on your meals and drinks. Staff were both friendly and helpful.
"Clean and Convenient"
09/15/14 Jeanette A Tathra, Australia
The last time I stayed here it was a Country Comfort establishment, and had a tired room with too much light, which resulted in not much sleep. This time under the Alpha guise, it was a lot better. I got a reasonably priced room, with free breakfast, Wi-Fi, movies etc. (not that I did anything but sleep in it). It was pretty clean, the bed comfortable and the shower had wonderful water pressure. I didn't like the fact that it had nice little bottle of conditioners (which I don't use), but no shampoo, so I asked the front desk for some shampoo, and they told me that the body wash doubled as shampoo. I don't like using body wash on my hair as it strips it and leaves it dry and fly-away....(I had no hairspray and I wasn't paying a fortune for some from the reception shop). Over-all - not bad....
"Great start to our holiday"
09/14/14 Kathy G Sydney
I searched online for this hotel as it had a spa room. Not too many of those in Canberra. So I booked it, the price also included a full buffet breakfast. We had no problem with the room except that the spa bubbles didn't work. Unfortunate, however there was a solution. Downstairs there was a communal spa, sauna and gym. But we hadn't included our swimmers, so no go. However the spa was nice as a hot bath anyway. We mentioned this on checkout and a substantial discount was given. The bed was comfy. Lighting was a little dull, but the same as most hotel rooms. The electric blanket was very welcome. We had a south facing view onto the bush and it was lovely to see the kangaroos at dusk and dawn. The room was comfortable. Not completely modern but very adequate. The air con was lovely and warm as we woke up to a 1 degree morning! The 1st floor has lift access if needed. Very large parking area. It was pizza night in the restaurant on the night we stayed so we ordered that and they rang us to pick it up very quickly. We ate in the room at a small, but adequate dining table. The pizza was piping hot and lovely. The receptionist told me the chef makes his own pizza sauce when I mentioned it and you could tell. There was a selection of free movies to enjoy as well. The breakfast the next day was lovely in the small dining area. It was very nicely laid out with a big variety of food from hot dishes to cold meats, pastries, fruits, cereals, yoghurt and juices. I had a lovely cup of coffee and the plates were warm! Lovely to have this and quite rare for most hotels. Back to the coffee. It was from an urn, but very nice, I was very impressed with the breakfast and told the chef so. Staff were very attentive and kept checking the food. The bacon was nice, NOT crappy cafe bacon!
"In a word.........TERRIBLE!!!!"
Single bed, ancient decor, scalding or freezing shower temperature, noisy environment, empty tissue box, no shampoo, mix up with room service order, tasteless scrambled eggs, cereal served with cold milk when hot was requested, no spoon to eat cereal, breakfast served late - all round not good enough.

I have stayed at this establishment intermittently for 5 years and gradually experienced its demise but gave it one last chance with Alpha. My last experience of weekend 6 and 7 Sept 14 was final straw. On the positive side, the location is fantastic and there is parking and a questionable breakfast. Having experienced this establishment in what I presume was its heyday, I can say that I will never return. My geographical business is in Tuggeranong but in future will cab from the cbd. Rooms - new carpet, very nice smell, rooms adequate at the best, bathroom ... don't spend too much time there just a place to get clean if you can stay in there long enough. Bring your own soap!! Ambience - I should have realised when I checked in that the drunk hooligans in reception was a hint and the 30 mins I waited for check in in their company was not going to be a relaxing weekend. Confirmed when meeting a lad walking down the corridor with a carton of bundy and followed all night with screams and running up and down the corridor. Being a responsible adult and observing several people enjoying a beverage in the foyer we were refused a glass of wine, told they were closed?? No worries a glass of wine from the overpriced minibar will suffice, oh, only beer and cider, well I guess that defines the clientele. Breakfast was interesting to be told that there was no black tea available on the Sat morning and on enquiring told that they couldn't go over the road to buy some as they will reorder on Monday with their supplier but I could have Earl Grey... its all tea. Restaurant was so full couldn't even negotiate to the cold buffet, that is hot buffet that was cold. Day two, Sunday, no tables but given tiny one person table for two half in the foyer, had to remove the cutlery box and put it on the floor to be able to place two plates. Went for a fruit juice, oh none there so waited and waited. Pushed my way through to the service area and dished up my breakfast and returned to my table in the foyer, ground salt on my cold scrambled eggs would be good, oh no salt, same as yesterday but as all the tables full I asked front of house to refill the salt mill, oh horror was the response and I never saw the salt mill again. Determined to enjoy my breakfast I used the pepper mill and with a slight turn released an onslaught of ground white pepper from within the mill onto my harmless scrambled eggs that were expecting a light sprinkle of ground black pepper. In an attempt to enjoy my breakfast I stole a salt mill from another table and the highlight of the weekend was that it worked, of course by that time breakfast was cold and a dead loss. On a positive note, there must have been more voices of complaint to provide black tea, such an unreasonable request, and some liptons appeared in the twinings box the following morning. Unfortunate that the cups were not kept up to speed and waited for a receptacle for my teabag. Incidentally I had gone to the supermarket over the road an bought my own black tea. But, then again, I had to wait for a glass for my fruit juice but given that there wasn't any I might have been unrealistic in my expectations of a full breakfast to the value of around $30. I really want to like this place but it is a dead loss, please please will some responsible hospitality organisation make something of this place. I work in hospitality and would have sacked the lot of them if they worked for me. Star employee - the grey tabby bobtail cat who frequents the smoking area adjacent to the entrance, it displayed a most welcoming demeanour and friendliness which was an inspiration and certainly a role model for staff. Unfortunately on observing staff (eventually) collecting plates from this area the cat was the recipient of hostile intimidation and bullying. Oh dear, this is a riff raff establishment without any pride or care... never again No way back now and never again for me.
"family catch up"
09/06/14 Jane J Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
We travelled to canberra from sydney took 4 hours with a number of stops . My husband had fractured his ankle, so we needed accommodation that could cater crutches, wheelchair etc. We were warmly welcomed andd given helpful information at reception. We took a lift to the next level, were very pleased to see our family room.a main door hides two more doors each a room, one a queen bed, fully equipped, shower and the two teenagers had there own room, two single beds, wirh tv and shower over the bath.. views from room were beautiful, looking towards the brindabella ranges.kangeroos were grazing across the road. The vikings club was next door, which would do a great meal. We did not go there this time. Just a block away were the tuggerarnong shops, dan murphy bottleshop, aldi supermarket all open late and agreat chinese takeaway.
"Enjoyed our stay"

I accompanied my partner on a business trip and stayed here for 3 days. We found all of the staff very friendly and helpful, I also give top marks for cleanliness and service, we would certainly stay here again in the future and have recommended this hotel to friends and colleagues.
"More than meets the eye"
09/04/14 Damien M Sydney, Australia
We were pleasantly surprised at the warmth and friendliness of this hotel. The accommodation was suitable for our stay and comfortable. Bathrooms are a little dated but very clean. The gym had some new and good equipment and I was glad I could work out on some descent equipment. We loved the view of the mountains from our balcony and seeing the kangaroos in the afternoon and morning. Service at dinner was excellent and the quality of the food and menu choice was great. We were glad we ended up eating in rather than going out.
09/03/14 Michele14850 Sydney, Australia
This hotel has great potential and you can tell its employees are trying very hard, but it lets itself down through inconsistency Check in and out was friendly, the staff encountered during the stay were helpful, cleaning staff are welcoming and attentive.....but the breakfast waitresses were brusque and gave the impression of customers being in their way rather than the reason for them being there in the first place. It was very busy and not everyone is a morning person, but if you choose that line of work then at least pretend to enjoy yourself. The food was very good. The facilities are good and it looks like the building is undergoing work, but the car park is tired. The location is wonderful being opposite a national park, a walk from the town shopping centre centre and an easy and quick drive to the major tourist attractions in Canberra. At the end of the day, I would return to this hotel in the hope the restaurant servers are having a better day.
"Perfect for our family stopover to the snow"
09/03/14 Belinda T
We stayed last week and found this hotel to be perfectly located slightly south of Canberra and an easy access to Monaro Highway to head to the snow. The rooms were comfortable and perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 children with a queen and 2 single needs. We had dinner at their restaurant the Tinderbox which we really enjoyed and they even have a great kids menu. We enjoyed sitting by the fire for a pre dinner drink. We also had breakfast before taking off early and the Alpha Hotel had a good selection and the buffet suited our family so we could get on the road quickly. We've decided we will return to Alpha Canberra to explore Canberra more with our children and will pack bikes as we saw some fantastic bike paths and parks. There seem to be a lot of attractions and places to visit nearby and we look forward to returning and spending more time there. This hotel offered everything we needed for our family and lovely service as well. Would definitely recommend.
