The Elements - Playa del Carmen

This was a very convenient location to stay. Its just 45 minutes from Cancun and within driving distance to other attractions (historic sites, adventure parks, cenotes, beaches). Its walking distance to the 5th street plaza that offers great cuisine after a long day out. Overall its was a very comfortable stay and money well spent.

This is a condo, and not a hotel. Staff didn't speak any English and service didn't exist. Room are large and comfortable, but if you have any problems, you are in trouble. Only one English speaking manager with authority to resolve them.

We stayed here before, and returned bringing our grown children this time. We still loved it because the beach and pool are wonderful and uncrowded, and it's only a short walk to shops and restaurants. The condo units are spacious, the funiture is comfortable and there are washers and dryers in each condo. Staff are very nice. There were a few minor […] upkeep issues--dishwasher didn't seem to drain properly, not enough large plates in the kitchen--but nothing serious. Unfortunately, there was a noisy music festival at the hotel next door that caused us to move inside sometimes rather than sit on the patio. We definitely will return to the Elements, but will make sure we avoid booking when the musicians are next door. Read more

the property does not have the amenities the website makes it seem it does; housekeeping was scarce, there was a terrible smell that came from the w/d closet that smelled liked sewage. i've spent a lot of time in bangkok so i'm not a lightweight, but having this smell dominate the living room area was really unpleasant. the apartment did not have a […] lot of character and greatly lacked details that made of a comfortable stay (i.e variety of kitchen utensils, extra blankets, inviting outdoor seating to enjoy the view, etc.). It was all in all pretty basic, especially compared to the other surrounding apartments. I'm fine with basic, but not for these prices. we went on to rent a house in tulum for the later part of our stay and even though tulum is more expensive, the house we rented was not much more money, was right on the beach and it was clear the owners wanted the guests to have unique, inviting and comfortable experience. this was not the situation with the elements... The Elements was a beautiful condo-hotel. The rooms are very large and nicely furnished. The hotel grounds were maintained well and the area felt safe. The condo had a very musty smell which was the real only downfall. This may be due to the fact that they wanted you to turn off the air conditioning when you left. It was a 15-20 minute walk to 5th Ave., […] but this was ok once you were familiar with the area. It was very easy to get a taxi there for $5.00. The beach was very nice and not crowded. the elements it is just perfect. right by a beautiful beach, great pool. well equipped kitchen. even aquipped with coolers and chairs for picnic at the beach. if you don't rent a car, just get a cab to any supermarket and then you won't need to leave this place for the whole duration of your stay!

My wife and I were looking for a clean and relaxing place to spend the week in Mexico in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The Elements was all that we expected and a bit more. The rooms were very clean, modern, and outfitted with everything you need. Once we went to the local grocery store and picked up some avocados, limes, tortilla chips, and Dos Equis […] we were in heaven. The pool is well maintained, very spacious, and quite relaxing. Beautiful view, well furnished and spacious condo. The private beach is small but pretty, and uncrowded. The pool is huge. It's about 4 blocks to some good restaurants, and a couple more blocks to the main street which is lined with shops and restaurants for about a mile. The balcony overlooking the water was wonderful with big comfortable furniture […] and a hammock for naps. Since boats for scuba diving are next door to the private beach there is a lot of coming and going. Although some guests might not like that we enjoyed watching the activity. Read more

Although the staff did not speak English we were given a cell for to reach an English speaking person and when we had an emergency and had to go to the hospital he was very quick to react and handled everything for us making it very easy. The Elements, is like a home away from home, only better because of the beautiful ocean view. The private beach felt like your own bit of heaven, it was never real busy so you were always able to get a lounge chair. The only real downside is not having a resturant at the hotel, especially if you plan on staying on the beach all day and want to grab […] lunch, you can use the hotel next door but the prices are high and the menu limited. We went to the WalMart and picked up a few grocieries so that solved the lunch problem. The unit we stayed in was beautifully decorated and spacious. We did have a problem getting the washer/dryer to work as the directions are in Spanish, but we eventually figured it out with a little trial and error. My overall opinion of the Elements is it is a great place to stay for families as the rooms are spacious and it is a quieter area of Playa Del Carmen, but close enough to walk or take a quick taxi to 5th Ave where all the action is. This was my families first visit to The Elements and I would highly recommend these condos. Damien the concierge is a wonderful asset to The Elements and all the good reviews online are all well deserved. A big shout out to Damien. The location is 15 minutes from Fifth Avenue so it is a bit of a walk but the beach is a lot quieter than Mamita Beach […] so that was welcome as we have children and would not have enjoyed the crowds of young people having a good time on Mamita Beach. I do not really have any criticisms but one - sometimes the complex can get a little loud especially on the weekend - but respectfully the noise stopped around midnight. The decor and rooms are very modern and well appointed - certainly very comfortable. Damien can give you all sorts of recommendations of where to eat and what to do in Playa. The grounds are clean and well kept. Overall I would highly recommend The Elements and our family intends to go back there when we go to Playa next. Read more
