We loved the hotel and the staff offered top class customer service. Our only complaint would be that the breakfast was not up to such high quality. We ordered breakfast to have in our room. This was my second stay at the hotel, and on each occasion I benefitted from an upgrade which gave me a room with a fantastic view over the golf course. Now I am not a golfist, and see little point in the game, but after a tiring day it is extremely good to sit on a balcony and take in the green of the grass and woodland and watch the sunlight fade […] away. Fabulous! The rooms are well appointed and modern, but perhaps lacking in a bit of character. The package I had was room only, and you would be well advised to take along something for breakfast, because the prices they want to charge for bacon and eggs are simply off the scale. No breakfast should cost £15!, but then this is a 5* venue. An evening meal in the bistro, 3 courses for £19.95 was far more realistic, and good food too. The spa and pool are great, plenty of equipment and plenty of space too. This is, simply, a great place to stay. Read more

Pleased with the overall quality of the hotel room and facilities - modern, clean and comfortable. Reception service pleasant, helpful and courteous. On the other hand the service for breakfast in the Brasserie was well below par. I had to wait for at least ten minutes for coffee to be served to me on each of the days I had breakfast . The main meal […] - only bacon and egg was requested - took 20 minutes the first day and 25 minutes the second. On each occasion I had to remind a staff member that I was waiting. On the third and last day of my visit I waited at breakfast reception for nearly 15 minutes without any attention being paid to me or, when a waiter did so, he said he was busy and would return. He did not do so and went off to talk to colleagues. I eventually gave up and left without having a meal [although I had paid for it]. When I complained later at Reception about the quality of service, on checking out, the Receptionist apologised and explained that the situation was complicated because four interns had just been drafted in and they were still learning the ropes. Room was clean and stylish, excellent of the golf course from the balcony. Room was a little on the cool side despite efforts to heat it and no extra blanket was held in the wardrobe. Second stay here, and it was as good as the first. Worth the out of town location! The server in the restaurant recognised me and my colleague from our trip several months previously, and treated us very well. There were even gluten free alternatives at breakfast, which made a nice change from most UK hotels!

Very disappointing. I paid a discounted rate when booking but still expected the standard to match the hotel's rating and to match the description given on Hotels.com. Not the case. I've had far better service and provision in three star and less. Does Cornwall follow different guidelines to the rest of the country? It was a far cry from what I was […] supposed to be getting for my money according to the booking website. Those little luxuries that come courtesy of four stars were noticeable by their absence. We saw them on the cleaner's trolley but not in our room! The extractor fan did not work in the bathroom, causing condensation and fog. The Service Manager came to investigate but as I was only staying one night, it was a case of "Oh well". He agreed about the lack of things one expects when enjoying staying in a four star room and said he would see what he could do. He did nothing. There was supposed to be free Wifi throughout the hotel but an ethernet cable was required and you were then anchored to the one port in the room. Checking out, the receptionists were cold. Though they asked if you had enjoyed your stay, they were clearly not concerned. When asked the same question, a fellow patron complained about the flickering light they had endured all night long and that it had still not been attended to when checking out. The receptionist's "Sorry" was patronising, and without pause, asked for a donation to the National Trust! However, the surrounding landscape was lovely. Read more

This is a hotel for those who would appreciate a modern american style setting rather than the traditional British standard for hotels. The room spacious with all necessary conveniences. There was a lovely view over the golf course from the balcony. The staff were well trained, polite and knowledgeable. The local area is fantastic if you are looking […] for a countryside retreat. We would highly recommend taking a cycling through the local farm roads. Convenient for other local attractions e.g. Padstow, Eden Project. Couldn't fault this resort from check in to our departure. If being picky I would say the golf and shop goods were overpriced compared to the market and don't be caught out for balls etc if golfing. Asked to play 9 holes after 5 pm and charged £57 which is extortionate for twilight times even if for buggy as well.

More about the golfers than the hotel guests. The food was average and was repetative. Certain drinks were not served as they should have been and the staff would always coms up with an excuse as to why it was.On the whole not an enjoyable experience, especially when woken up by a guests mobile phone alarm going off at 05.30 which was so loud i thought […] that it was the hotel alarm as there was no information on that procedure. The staff were extremely polite and helpful, the hotel setting is excellent and is located only a few easy miles from Saltash and Plymouth. Above average overall. Poor service from the desk on check in. Others there not happy either with brusque tone from young girl - we had to wait until 3 pm exactly for the room. Probably five of the orders wrong in the restaurant. Food OK, though. Pricey breakfast, but a good selection and well presented. Very nice leisure facilities - the pool was excellent. […] Very noisy kids pool, but it is separate. Wouldn't say its International standard unless golfers disagree. They say the courses are first class. And why they don't give us the rooms with views away from the car-park until the better rooms are full (a frustratingly common hotel issue) we never understand. We loved the surrounding area although its a few miles from the Plymouth shops. There's a Waitrose 6 miles away. All in all probably worth it but the service needs a lot of attention. Go again? A large hotel which does everything in an ok way but I expected more of it's 4 star status! Very good leisure facilities and beds / bedding of good quality. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. In room facilities ok, mugs needed washing before use, internet did not always connect. I had a good deal when I stayed and I thought it good value for money […] but not special. I would stay again but only if the price is right, there is better out there. Golfers are well catered for with a shop and a large fleet of golf buggies. Staff were wonderful and helpful. Lovely area, very nice staff. Pool area had a lot of kids around, despite being a fairly expensive hotel. Provided a gluten free breakfast alternative, which I've never been able to have before! Dinner was a little less impressive, but overall a lovely stay.

The staff were very welcoming, we had a room with a balcony and it was lovely to be able to open the door fully and let in the fresh air - such a change from hotels that restrict the opening of windows. The room was a good size and the bed was a large zip bed (6 feet wide) an very comfortable. The room came with tea and coffee supplies, biscuits, toiletries […] and bottled water - again little things that have been stripped from so many other hotels. We also requested a fridge in the room which enabled us to keep fresh milk - so much better than UHT in a cup of tea in the morning. The leisure facilities were also very nice - a 25 metre pool for lane swimming a large splash around pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. After 8pm the facilities were children free. The Brasserie restaurant menu was not really to our taste in terms of atmosphere, prices or menu choices but there are plenty of places local to go to. There were nice lounge spaces where you could get a drink or coffee and we sat and played cards as well as used the free wifi on the laptop we had brought with us. Read more

Stayed here due to its location and initially thought it would be a good base from which to explore the Eden project, Plymouth and Cornish coastline. It was in a perfect location for all but in itself was a high quality place to stay. It is very much a golf resort but we didn't feel out of place at all. We were given an extremely high quality of room […] with a balcony view onto to the course. Room was funky with large purple chairs but also nice and big, very comfortable bed. It seemed very modern and not very old so benefitted from a new feel. Generally very clean and stylish room simar to a good 4 star hotel. Hotel facilities were superb with a hugh pool, gym and spa complex free to guests. 3 large pools with steam, sauna and jacuzzi. Food was also of a high standard but I had to pay separately for breakfast which was disappointing as booking on hotels.com there wasn't an option to get breakfast which I most likely would have done. Overall extremely good for the price and would recommend both for a golf stay, quiet peaceful break away or as a central point for exploring nearby. Read more

This is the 2nd time we have stayed at St Mellion and was exceptional value through Hotels.com (cheaper than laterooms) . Swift check in, no problems parking. Opted for superior room with balcony as this is what we had last time, worth the extra. Balcony is glass so unobstructed view over golf course, pity it was very foggy this time but you get sun […] all day . Leisure pool facilities great (still bugs me you have to take a £1 coin for locker tho). After a day out round cornwall, came back to soak in lovely size bath with elemis products. didnt eat at either restaurant or visit bar. Overall a lovely experience Only reason I marked down "convenience of hotel location" is not if you need to go to a local shop but for Dartmoor, Cornwall, Plymouth its ideal. Read more

On the whole I found this hotel extremely clean quiet and comfortable with a warm welcome from friendly and courteous reception staff. Pleasant bar and restaurant area and lovely swimming pools - I tried the family one which was really warm! I would recommend this hotel not only to golfers but to anyone using it as a base to explore Cornwall, Dartmoor, […] Plymouth and the surrounding area. My only minor criticisms are that the signage both on the approach to the hotel and within could be a little more obvious. I don't normally have problems finding my way around, but it only needed a golfer to be standing in front of the small, low direction signs to send you in the wrong direction.
