The staff was extremely accomodating and friendly. The room was clean and a decent size with all the kitchen amenities. Great for the price.

My son had booked two rooms four months ago and they only had one room reserved for him. They overbooked too much. We saw many people leave because they could not guarantee them rooms even though they had called and reserved. They gave rooms to others instead. They were very short handed at the desk and housekeeping. It was a very busy weekend in Kalamazoo […] and they should have had extra people to accommodate people. We stayed here because we were doing some shopping and also visited the casino...do not stay here to go to the casino! It is way too far away and spent a quarter tank of gas going back and forth a few times. Other than that, the hotel was nice and thought the kitchen was awesome in the room! This hotel is not for families. There is nothing to do around this hotel. No pool, no continental breakfast. The stairs are at the far ends of the hotel. If you are looking for a comfortable quiet extended stay hotel you can't go wrong with this hotel. The bed was comfortable, the AC was quiet and worked well - What more can you ask. Just understand that extend stay means your room won't get cleaned every day which I personally prefer.

The past few years we've had to stay in a hotel while spending Christmas Eve with my daughter and her husband, as I'm very allergic to her cats. This year we chose Candlewood because we wanted to have a nice Christmas morning breakfast and get the feeling of "home". The room was beautiful and we especially liked the separate bedroom. The price was very […] reasonable, as well, when compared to the rooms at the Holiday Inn, and best of all, it was advertised as "pet friendly". Imagine our surprise to learn that the charge for a one-night stay with our 20-pound cockapoo was $75!! We discussed leaving the dog at our daughter's home while we were at the hotel, but Jonathan is a part of our family, and we weren't sure how he would fare with three cats he'd never seen before. We paid the price, and when I checked the website, I found that the hotels here in the Detroit area charge $15 a night, but the corporate "policy" is to charge $75 for a 1 to 6-night stay. When I called guest services at the 800 number, I was told that individual hotels can choose not to enforce the entire amount, but it was "expensive" to clean a room after a dog has been in it. I seriously doubt that $75 was needed to clean up after a little (non-shedding) dog stayed in a room for 18 hours. The customer service rep was very nice, but told me that this is a hotel for long-term guests, and we would be better suited to a place like the Holiday Inn...so...I guess that's what we'll do next year. It's unfortunate that Candlewood Suites can't bend the policy on Christmas so that we can celebrate with more comfort, but if that's their stand, then I guess it's not the place for overnight guests. Especially guests with pets. Overall the hotel was lovely as was the room, but the desk clerks were not very accommodating, especially when we were told Christmas morning that they were "short" on coffee packets, and we couldn't have any from the urn in the lobby as it was "for guests coming in" (as opposed to guests on Read more

Nice hotel, kind of out in the middle of nowhere, which did make it quiet. Everything was good. I needed an accessible room, and it did have some with good roll-in showers. A little bit of a drive to some good restaurants, though.

My son and I recently stayed at this hotel and we were very impressed. The hotel and the rooms were very clean (and we are quite picky) and the hotel staff was very friendly. It was great to have a full fridge and some clooking stuff in the room. With the "cupboard" in the lobby it meant we were able to have breakfast and snacks in our room with no […] fuss. This is an "extended stay" hotel as I was constantly being told by the manager and hotel staff. What that means is they only clean your room every 7 days (we stayed 4, so too bad for us). We stayed at the hotel for a baseball tournament, so I guess we did not fit their usual profile. No excuse for the way were made to feel. From the time of check-in, I was trying to upgrade to a larger room, but was told each time "there is nothing available right now, check back later". They never offered to put my name on a list for when one came available, just said "check back later. One time I did check, they said they had one available, but were waiting for a fax confirmation from the person reserving it, if it did not come within 10 minutes, I could have the room. I waited in the lobby, after 10 minutes, the manager said, the room is not available, no "I'm sorry for the mixup", just "its not available". The hotel was 3 times the cost of other hotels in the area, I thought the extra cost would get extra service and a nicer room.
