"Great place but starting to feel too corporate"
Stayed here before and loved every minute. It felt really special. This time it felt very impersonal and as such a little disappointing ....no individualized effort made. Would be nice if hotel staff was a little more friendly. Restaurant staff were lovely though. Would come back again for sure but hope staff can take to heart the importance of welcoming […] and smiles etc. home was closed for season which was also a shame! Still recommend! "Possible best hotel in UK"
As an IT consultant I stay in many hotels in the UK and more often than not I'm disappointed with the hotel I'm staying at- however this hotel was almost flawless, I had a great room, the food was excellent and the staff were curteous, polite and extremely helpful. Would recommend 100%. If I were to change one thing, I would add Steak to the in-room […] menu but it's still one of the, if not the, best hotel I've ever stayed in the UK Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful grounds, comfy room and great pool."
Lovely room, v comfy and beautiful bathroom. I was staying on business so this was a treat. I managed to squeeze in a swim, jacuzzi, sauna and steam, the aromatherapy shower was great. Unfortunately I had to be up for a meeting v early and didn't properly get to enjoy the stay. I'll be back.....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice setting and staff, parking not the best and food in hotel expensive. Swimming pool/spa looked good but had no chance to use it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Truly beyond outstanding!"
As a regular business traveller I spend many nights in many hotels each and every week. I can honestly say that this hotel is one of the very best I've experienced... Ever! Quality of the hotel itself is exceptional, rooms are beautiful, well appointed, comfortable and luxurious. The bathrooms were equally outstanding, spacious and with a huge walk […] in s shower. The restaurant was quiet on my visit and the A La Carte menu was comprehensive and had a mouth-watering selection of interesting dishes. The food was absolutely top-notch, quality, flavour and inventiveness were all there! On top of all of this though was the absolutely outstanding service given by absolutely every member of the hotel team I came into contact with. Ever so helpful, friendly and above all efficient in their duties. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone! I did not use the Spa facilities this time, but if they are anywhere near as good the rest of the hotel that can only add to a very special evening or weekend. I will certainly return for another visit, this time with my family. Don't hesitate, book this hotel with confidence, you won't be disappointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Shower to die for, clean crisp sheets and comfortable pillow. Breakfast was wonderful. Shame Bowood house was closed for winter, but some lovely pubs and villages surround this hotel. as well as the golf course.!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very well run hotel with good amenities. the dinner menu could be a little more varied. not everybody eats meat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I am being picky, but given the cost, I think it's the right thing to do. Starting with 100 points.. Deduct 1pt for chipped cup when serving breakfast, 1pt for only serving one rasher of bacon, 1pt for the bacon being tough, 1pt for the plate being cold. The room was contemporary (in fact the whole hotel had a very contempoary feel, lots of neutral […] colurs) and well furnished, flat screen tv, well appointed large bathroom, bathroom robes. high thread count bedsheets. The gym was well appointed, with new and well manitained cardio machines and free weights. This was in anew wing of the hotel. Floor to ceiling glass. You could see the golf course as you ran on the treadmill. Very theraputic. Did not get chance to try spa (will book a massage in advance next time). The barman was friendly and pleasure to chat with after a hard nights partying. Just driving through the arched gateway gave you a sense of luxury and the entrance to the hotel was equally impressive. If you like luxury and you can afford it, well worth staying Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Carpets stains on bedroom carpet, loose fittings in bedroom, cobwebs on bedroom windows! Hotel staff - very offish, Hotel Facilities - pretty good overall Hotel restaurants - expensive and limited choice, but not bad tastingGenuine Expedia guest review
WOW! Room was amazing and all the the little extras made it extra special. Would have liked to have been asked if we wanted to see the facilities or even here about them. Dinner in the brasseries was great, felt it lacked a bit of atmosphere and wasn't in tune with the rest of the hotel. Will recommend and intend to go again. Overall great overnight […] stay. "Overnight stay - will definitely go back"
Everything about our stay was outstanding from the initial drive up to the hotel, check in staff, room, spa, evening meal and breakfast - all spot on! I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in an unspoilt part of the country.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We chose Bowood for a wedding anniversary break and stayed for two nights - a Thursday and Friday. The hotel and spa and the grounds surrounding are all beautifully maintained. The spa facilities are outstanding and luxurious and despite the hotel being full on Friday night, we were able to have time in the pool to ourselves on the saturday morning […] before breakfast. The only one slight disappointment was that we could hear the people in the next door room talking late at night but other than that we had a wonderful time and would definitely stay there again. we went for my birthday...the setting is beautiful,...the manager was a gentleman and ferried us about in a golf cart to and fro the beautiful statley home near to the hotel..which is free to residents of bowood ...i found a bottle of sparkling wine in my room with a greetings card;a nice touch. If i have any criticism it is that the breakfast was rather scrappy but we would still return.
"Beautiful hotel, nice food - love the bathrooms!"
09/16/14 Mandi P Portsmouth, United Kingdom
We stayed recently on a Sunday night following my sister's wedding. Our room was lovely with some very nice touches (I love the sewing kit and cookies :) ). The bed was huge and very comfortable. The bathroom was the best I've ever seen in a hotel - loved it! A small suggestion - perhaps a couple of green tea or fruit teabags could be provided? I was a little surprised by the service from reception. I heard stories during the day from people who had had great service from most members of staff (very helpful) but pretty poor from another (as though they were in the way..) As I wasn't there at the time I dismissed it. However, I was surprised, on checking out, to not even be asked if our stay had been comfortable etc. I consider this to be a standard question on checking out.... Maybe it was because we were paying a discounted (though in no way cheap) room rate as we were part of a wedding party?? The wedding itself was perfectly run and the food was lovely - again though a very small number of the waiting staff didn't respond to requests or seemed to consider guests 'a bit of a nuisance'. Others more than made up for it in doing whatever they could to enhance the experience. I must stress the majority of the wedding staff fell into the 2nd category. Breakfast was good and plentiful - further offers of coffee/tea and toast would have been welcomed though as there is no facility to help yourself. Would I go again? Yes, if I was attending a wedding or other function; No otherwise as I think the room rates are a little too high.
"Perfect for a relaxing night away"
Myself and my husband spent the night at the hotel as a birthday treat. Check in was very quick. We had room 218 which was a standard double. We weren't expecting to find a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us so that was an added bonus along with the homemade cookies. There were also Tea and coffee making facilities, water, iron, ironing board, hair dryer etc as you'd expect. The room was large and beautifully appointed, the bed was the most comfortable bed ever. The bathroom was nice, bath and shower and everything you need. Bowood have thought of everything, lots of little added extras. We had dinner in the Shelburne restaurant, the food and service was excellent. Our waitress Emily was lovely and my dessert was delivered with Happy Birthday on it and a complimentary glass of Prosecco. Breakfast was the best I've had at any hotel. My only slight complaint would be that as we were only staying for one night and we didn't have to leave our room until 11am, but from before 9am we had two chambermaids standing waiting outside our door. We had the do not disturb sign on but when we went to breakfast they were there and still there when we came back, they just stood outside our room whispering and we felt pressured to leave the room earlier than we needed to. We could hear them outside the door which obviously meant they could hear our conversation too. Ours couldn't have been the only room needing cleaning, rather than standing there for an hour surely they could have left us alone until after we'd checked out. Apart from that the staff were all brilliant and we really enjoyed our short stay.
"A Pleasant Surprise"

After reading some pretty bad reviews of Bowood Hotel I was rather scpetical about going, especially due to the price, but we had already booked and it was for a wedding so I thought just bite the bullet. I was so pleased when we arrived, early and could check in straight away. Our room was lovely, overlooked the golf course and the cookies were such a nice surprise. Others had written that Bowood lacks some luxury items, well I have to disagree. We booked the standard room which came with robes, slippers, all toiletries and everything you would expect from a luxury hotel. The food for the wedding was fantastic, and the inclusive buffet breakfast was really nice. I don't normally review, but had to due to some of the reviews on here that made me want to cancel our booking and stay elsewhere, I'm glad we didn't in the end as had such a lovely weekend!! Thank you
"An excellent stay all round"

On arrival we were allocated a room on the ground floor facing the front of the hotel with no view. It was a beautiful sunny day, as was the following day, and I asked whether they had a sunnier room. They did and were happy to transfer us to an identical room with a small balcony on the first floor – and what a view! Overlooking an undulating area used for golf practice (it is after all a golf focussed hotel) stretching away to trees some distance away where, the following morning, deer felt safe enough to graze as the early morning mist evaporated. We had gone to the hotel primarily to have a Red Letter tea (www.redlettersdays.co.uk), a Christmas gift which was served to us in the library. Some might have preferred a more balanced savoury/sweet mixture but we managed to polish off everything bar one small choux pastry. Excellent swimming pool heated to a level where you could have a decent swim without feeling you were in a hot tub .. but only just. The hot tub was hot. Changing rooms clean and well maintained. After our tea we could only manage a snack but the room service menu had sufficient variety and was efficiently served later in the evening. Bed very comfortable; the room had good lighting, an easy chair, plus desk chair and plenty of power points. A good sized safe at eye level. Excellent walk-in shower plus bath. Wifi free and efficient. But no biscuits! AND VERY QUIET INDEED OUTSIDE at night (and inside too for that matter). Civilisation miles away. Breakfast as you would expect but, and you don’t always get this early in the morning, “on the ball” waiting staff. All in all, a really enjoyable stay. The weather obviously helped but we would go again even if it was cold and snowy, perhaps even because it was cold and snowy.

Stayed overnight and played 2 rounds of golf with friends, noisy revellers spoilt my nights sleep until 3am! We had dinner bed and breakfast deal and we had to eat in the brasserie not main dining room in the evening, the menu was limited but food OK, breakfast in dining room excellent with wide choice , room was lovely great facilities comfy bed and pillows!
"Excellent facilities, service and food........with a couple of issues."

We booked this hotel for three nights while we attended a family wedding. It is a four star grade hotel attached to a golf course and is much as one would expect...... The building is modern and well appointed, the staff are generally excellent with a 'can do' attitude.... The site is beautiful, set in rolling Wiltshire countryside. Our room was of a decent size with a well appointed bathroom. The service was excellent, the staff really are good, little extras like fresh ice in the room every day. The food was fine....... Good breakfast buffet whether continental or English. The Dinner menu was good and the food well cooked and presented. Only a couple of niggles with our stay. One that the hotel has little control over was that we were directed to the Brasserie on the Friday lunchtime( this appears to be the golf club bar) where we had lunch at a table wiped with a damp cloth while we sat at the table, while at the next table a party of golfers debated loudly with language which I wouldn't expect in such an establishment.....not really a place for ladies or families. The other is a minor issue, but easily resolved, cold plates don't help to make a good cooked breakfast.

Upon arrival (at about midday) we were informed that we couldn't have access to our room before 15.00. Since this was the time we were due to be transported to a wedding in Corsham this seemed outrageous. In any case, I have never had such a ridiculous access time. There was no accommodation of our predicament and only the "spa" was offered for changing. This particular problem was only resolved by the intervention of the groom's father! The room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was good but nothing compared to one provided in a B&B 2 weeks later in the lake district. If you don't play golf with enthusiasm, i can't think of any reason why you would spend any time in this place. I consider it outrageously expensive for what is on offer.

My partner paid for 2 nights here for my bday treat. A wonderful thought. The drive up is very impressive - very grand.......a nice touch like parking your car / carrying in luggage would be nice (like Ragdale Hall). We had a room with a balcony, overlooking the golf course. Beautiful setting - we often saw Deers and swans. Popular venue for weddings. Difficult to get treatments booked - try to arrange in advance. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The spa area is very small but the pool is lovely and long, loungers around the edge provide a floor to ceiling view of the golf course............a lovely, relaxing hot bubble pool is superb. Great steam room with colour changing rock and little lights on ceiling. Aroma therapy shower is lush. Shower area VERY small - one day all showers had hair over the drains, so I showered up in our room instead. Strange thing - showers have conditioner and shower gel, but not shampoo?? Would be good if towels were available in the changing area so if your towel gets very wet, you don't have to go all the way out to reception. Meals were not as impressive as we expected, however - I am veggie and my partner is very fussy! I did not like the aubergine soup at all and my partner did not like the duck pate. Mains were better (Steak for him - with "the best chips he'd ever tasted") and homemade Gnocchi for me. On day 2, the mozzarella and tomato starter was divine. They made me a special dish as I didn't fancy the veggie options available - this was much appreciated and reflected their superb service. Drinks at bar EXTORTIONATE!! An orange juice and lemonade and a latte - £9??! We walked to Bowood House and gardens on Sat - beautiful walk around the golf course and the gardens of the House are WONDERFUL. The house didn't interest me THAT much, but is worth a quick visit. Children's play area HUGE fun! Climbing nets and very steep slides - like an army assault course!
"The Bowood Experience"

If you are a golfer and want a great experience in after golf dining or just a burger this is the place to go. The course was well manicured and a good test of golf. Our dinner was exceptional, especially the home smoked salmon starter with horseradish ice cream and cucumber sorbet and the wine list more than adequate without being over the top. We are looking forward to our next visit.
