"Great place but starting to feel too corporate"
Stayed here before and loved every minute. It felt really special. This time it felt very impersonal and as such a little disappointing ....no individualized effort made. Would be nice if hotel staff was a little more friendly. Restaurant staff were lovely though. Would come back again for sure but hope staff can take to heart the importance of welcoming […] and smiles etc. home was closed for season which was also a shame! Still recommend! "Possible best hotel in UK"
As an IT consultant I stay in many hotels in the UK and more often than not I'm disappointed with the hotel I'm staying at- however this hotel was almost flawless, I had a great room, the food was excellent and the staff were curteous, polite and extremely helpful. Would recommend 100%. If I were to change one thing, I would add Steak to the in-room […] menu but it's still one of the, if not the, best hotel I've ever stayed in the UK Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful grounds, comfy room and great pool."
Lovely room, v comfy and beautiful bathroom. I was staying on business so this was a treat. I managed to squeeze in a swim, jacuzzi, sauna and steam, the aromatherapy shower was great. Unfortunately I had to be up for a meeting v early and didn't properly get to enjoy the stay. I'll be back.....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice setting and staff, parking not the best and food in hotel expensive. Swimming pool/spa looked good but had no chance to use it.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Truly beyond outstanding!"
As a regular business traveller I spend many nights in many hotels each and every week. I can honestly say that this hotel is one of the very best I've experienced... Ever! Quality of the hotel itself is exceptional, rooms are beautiful, well appointed, comfortable and luxurious. The bathrooms were equally outstanding, spacious and with a huge walk […] in s shower. The restaurant was quiet on my visit and the A La Carte menu was comprehensive and had a mouth-watering selection of interesting dishes. The food was absolutely top-notch, quality, flavour and inventiveness were all there! On top of all of this though was the absolutely outstanding service given by absolutely every member of the hotel team I came into contact with. Ever so helpful, friendly and above all efficient in their duties. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone! I did not use the Spa facilities this time, but if they are anywhere near as good the rest of the hotel that can only add to a very special evening or weekend. I will certainly return for another visit, this time with my family. Don't hesitate, book this hotel with confidence, you won't be disappointed. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Shower to die for, clean crisp sheets and comfortable pillow. Breakfast was wonderful. Shame Bowood house was closed for winter, but some lovely pubs and villages surround this hotel. as well as the golf course.!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very well run hotel with good amenities. the dinner menu could be a little more varied. not everybody eats meat.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I am being picky, but given the cost, I think it's the right thing to do. Starting with 100 points.. Deduct 1pt for chipped cup when serving breakfast, 1pt for only serving one rasher of bacon, 1pt for the bacon being tough, 1pt for the plate being cold. The room was contemporary (in fact the whole hotel had a very contempoary feel, lots of neutral […] colurs) and well furnished, flat screen tv, well appointed large bathroom, bathroom robes. high thread count bedsheets. The gym was well appointed, with new and well manitained cardio machines and free weights. This was in anew wing of the hotel. Floor to ceiling glass. You could see the golf course as you ran on the treadmill. Very theraputic. Did not get chance to try spa (will book a massage in advance next time). The barman was friendly and pleasure to chat with after a hard nights partying. Just driving through the arched gateway gave you a sense of luxury and the entrance to the hotel was equally impressive. If you like luxury and you can afford it, well worth staying Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We had a great time. The hotel is set in lovely grounds. I asked for champagne in the room which was a reasonable price and good too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"OK, but over-rated"
Carpets stains on bedroom carpet, loose fittings in bedroom, cobwebs on bedroom windows! Hotel staff - very offish, Hotel Facilities - pretty good overall Hotel restaurants - expensive and limited choice, but not bad tastingGenuine Expedia guest review
WOW! Room was amazing and all the the little extras made it extra special. Would have liked to have been asked if we wanted to see the facilities or even here about them. Dinner in the brasseries was great, felt it lacked a bit of atmosphere and wasn't in tune with the rest of the hotel. Will recommend and intend to go again. Overall great overnight […] stay. "Overnight stay - will definitely go back"
Everything about our stay was outstanding from the initial drive up to the hotel, check in staff, room, spa, evening meal and breakfast - all spot on! I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in an unspoilt part of the country.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We chose Bowood for a wedding anniversary break and stayed for two nights - a Thursday and Friday. The hotel and spa and the grounds surrounding are all beautifully maintained. The spa facilities are outstanding and luxurious and despite the hotel being full on Friday night, we were able to have time in the pool to ourselves on the saturday morning […] before breakfast. The only one slight disappointment was that we could hear the people in the next door room talking late at night but other than that we had a wonderful time and would definitely stay there again. "Very enjoyable dining experience"

A delicious meal was enjoyed by the four of us. The starters were quite varied and unusual. My duck was delicious. For main courses we enjoyed sea bass and sea trout which was very nice too. To top it all the strawberry roulade was really yummy. All through the meal the very attentive staff were very professional and knowledgable too. A really relaxed evening had by all.

Had a two day family golf and spa weekend. Hotel is fantastic. It is a little expensive but you get what you pay for. Food excellent and rooms perfect. Good spa facilities and a great golf course. Man in golf shop was a bit miserable but all in all very good.
"Delightful but not quite"

I would recommend for anyone wanting a really nice stay away - the team who we interacted with where very pleasant, accomodating; the room but in particular the bathroom very well appointed and spacious down to the toiletries; nice touches like fresh cookies in your room and water each day. The restaurant for dinner was exceptional but beware the menu does not change each night although the chef kindly accomodated an off the menu creation for me. Breakfast really lets them down as it is a free for all (a buffet for hot - yuk) and does no favours to what they do for the balance of the experience; the golf tour were loutish and allowed to be (very bad form) and made everyone very uncomfortable in the restaurant and there is simply not enough serving staff on the Friday for sure (which when you know you have a large golfing party this is not rocket science). The 18th birthday party in the Golf club had the potential to ruin the ambience but thankfully after an hour of loud music someone must have popped along and told them to shut the door - you dont get second chances guys to create an impression. As for cigarette butts on the patio from breakfast time still in evidence at cocktail hour... The spa is very pleasant and I would recommend the half hour massage as a good pick me up. Took bikes to enjoy the surrounding countryside and worked up a good appetite coming up the hill to pub by main entrance after 13 miles to enjoy lunch - it is lovely. Overall 8 out of 10 when they should be delivering a min 9 out of 10 for the money, even with the late escape deal but I would still recommend - working hard and very nice feel.
"Lovely little gem in the country"

We spent the day at the Spa: Staff very friendly and helpful, enjoyable day out, food was delicious we did the spa day so a light lunch, fruit, fizz and massage included, along with full use of facilities. The food was more than substantial, very filling! Small gym but lovely equipment and facilities, the massage was very good too and we left feeling more relaxed. We went in the week midday and found this to be a good time to go, as by 4:00pm children can access the facilities so gets a little busier and noisier, so time your visit accordingly.
"Birthday celebrations en family"
08/05/14 Lonnky Plymouth
A wonderful relaxing place and tranquil. Still loads to do for teenagers and under 7yrs alike. Our families all joined to together for a family Birthday. Wonderful. Pool lovely except kids are only allowed in 3.45-5pm and before 10 am so quite restricted which was a downer as we wanted to go before lunch time. Golf driving range fun as we all tried it out - the good, bad and downright rubbish! Food in Brasserie was good value and tasty. Good with allergies too. Bowood house and gardens well worth a visit too as free entry if you're in the hotel. Kids enjoyed adventure playground too - lovely area for a picnic too. Take a blanket in case all tables are full. came back relaxed and refreshed!
So many hotels these days get some things right and other things wrong but Bowood Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort are deserving of an 'excellent' review. The hotel staff were friendly, cheerful and have a 'can do and happy to help' attitude and it was a pleasure dealing with them all from the moment we checked in to the minute we left. Despite being told the hotel was full on the night we stayed, it never felt busy or overcrowded and the layout of the hotel is well thought out. Bowood makes a difference with the 'extra touches' in the rooms and the overall cleanliness of the hotel was exceptional. Well done Bowood, we had a wonderful Golf/Spa weekend stay and we will most definitely recommend the hotel to friends and colleagues. A job VERY well done.
"We didn't want to leave..."

After much research on this site and a recommendation from friends, we stayed at this wonderful hotel for one night on the way home from a traumatic visit to relations! We arrived late and checked in quickly to our standard double room which was far larger than almost any standard hotel room we have stayed in before. Immaculately clean and superbly comfortable with a wonderful bathroom. We wandered down to the bar area where we were warmly welcomed and ordered a lovely bottle of wine at a very reasonable price. We mentioned to the South African manageress ( sorry we didn't catch your name) that we were in need of some sustenance although didn't fancy a full meal. She suggested bread, meats etc which sounded perfect but was not on the menu. She shortly returned with a superb platter which turned out to be complimentary!! We sat outside watching the deer, listening to owls - perfect and so restorative. After a perfect night's sleep ( and believe me I am extremely fussy about my bed, pillow, room temperature etc) we enjoyed a lovely breakfast. We took advantage of the complimentary visit to the house and gardens, returned to the hotel for a lovely lunch and spent a quiet afternoon in the spa area. My husband then gave me my first ever golf lesson on the 3 hole 3 par (apparently!) course, again included in the price! We were so reluctant to leave this wonderful hotel we stayed on for a light dinner in the bar. All the staff we came across were incredibly friendly, helpful and efficient. The meals and drinks were beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and priced very reasonably. All the facilities were immaculate, comfortable and a pleasure to use. We usually holiday on cruise ships and are used to a very high standard - this hotel compared very favourably.
"Stylish hotel by the golf course"

Few modern hotels in the countryside have been designed with such a comfortable style with its high ceilings and smart décor. Service and the restaurant are very good. We had one niggle with bedroom curtains that would not close and while nothing was done after we first mentioned it, a second mention brought out the manager and he politely resolved the problem. The golf is very good too.

I visited Bowood with a small group. We were there three days playing golf twice at Bowood and once at the Manor. Both courses were in excellent condition and the services offered by both pro shops was excellent. The club house and Brasserie facilities are very good, lunch time snacks were reasonable, service was very good and the food was well presented and of a high standard.the rooms in the hotel were lovely, clean, spacious and well furnished. The restaurant service both at breakfast and in the evening was good. The only downside was that our room 211 was situated over the lounge bar which had an outside terrace. The weather was lovely which meant that on one evening a group of residents were still outside swearing and shouting at 2am. It was necessary to call down to reception who in fairness acted promptly and moved them on. Unfortunately on their way to their rooms they caused a disturbance to other residents. I appreciate the hotel cannot be held responsible for ill-behaved guests, but, they must be aware that the terrace is directly below and alongside rooms. No apology was made to us by the hotel. I would certainly return as all the facilities there are excellent. I would however choose to have a room in a different part of the hotel.
"Spa at Bowood"

Would not go again, the changing room facilities for women and children, totally inadequate, especially after a day in the spa, when the changing room is full of women going out of the spa and women and perhaps children coming in, a very unpleasant experience. Probably the best experience of the day, was the massage. The best of the of the facilities, the swimming pool. Lunch not gourmet, might just as well have been in a cafeteria, or coffee bar, anywhere.
